Look in the Address Book. There are already options to text or email contact details, so you don't need copy & paste.

Actually, not quite. You can email or MMS the .vcf, but not just a number or email address. You may want to send someone an email, but not necessarily their home address.

Then why add the hardware in for it ... ? With a 32GB iPhone, you can record a lot of 720p video. Keep in mind, with a Bluray at 50GB you can have 1080p for about 3 hours worth. (maybe more)

So at 720p, 32GB would be plenty of space to record a few hours worth of video. Chances are, most users wouldn't record more then a few minutes worth of video at a time.

No problem :D

Well some other users in HoFo figured that it takes about 1.5GB to record an hour of video. With 720p you would probably see that time cut in half in order to meet the 2GB limit. Of course this is assuming there is a 2GB limit.

The 3Gs comes in a 16GB and 32GB version. Even if it was 4GB an hour ... I still fail to see how this would prevent them from enabling 720p recording.

I would think it would be more of a noise issue. At lower resolutions, they can bin neighboring pixels to remove noise. Video recording will be more likely to suffer from noise due to the lower effective shutter speed.

I guess.

Hmm, I'm noticing some odd crackling while on a call over Bluetooth headset. I'll try to see if this survives a reboot or not, but it's annoying :(. Wasn't like that in 3.0.

MMS Not working with 3.1 on UK 02?

I downloaded the 3.1 for my 3G iPhone but the MMS doesn't seem to work now, anyone else in the UK/02 found this?

Thanks

Goat:)

I guess.

The 3Gs hardware is fully capable of handling 720p video recording ...

Where is the carrier profile located in settings so i can remove it??

Yep, im having the same issue. Have you figured out where to delete the carrier profile or return it to default? In settings>general>profiles, I only see my dev profiles.

My internet connection is not working at all. Phone/text of course works fine.

You have to do it through iTunes, just like when you loaded the modified 5.0 carrier file. Don't worry about deleting the 5.0 file, just load the 4.0 right over it and restart your phone.

Download the 4.0 carrier file attached to this post. Don't worry, it's safe, I got it from this thread:

How are you copying a phone number from the contacts app? Every time I try to do that my iPhone calls the number.
I can only share contacts by email.

If you tap-hold the number, you'll be able to Copy it. But this might only work on the 3Gs. You probably have the 3G. If you have 3.1 OS with iPhone 3Gs, it will work. Maybe not with the iPhone 3G.

Yeah but if you want to Share JUST the number and not the whole Contact card, Copy/Paste is the answer. That's why it's there.

Regarding your last point, you can start an email and copy&paste your photos into it as an when you need to.

Yeah, but that's not the same as adding an "Attach File" feature to Mail. That's what Mail desperately needs. Ability to attach basically any file on your iPhone to an new email message as long as the total amount of attachments are small enough MB-wise to send in one message. I already did a mockup of this and sent it to Apple for all of us :D

You can finally copy and paste info in Contacts! (Before you had to hit "Edit" then click the number to edit it, and copy it that way)

Also, you can now paste phone numbers into the Phone app to dial:

Neither of these are in 3.0, I checked on my other phone.

AWESOME! Tried to do this the other day and it didn't work and I thought they should really add that. I'm so happy now. :D

Thanks....I got it to work again with the old settings. Is there a way to get tethering to work though? with os3.1?

When I apply the new 5.0 carrier settings, tethering works, but I lose the internet/email soon after.

Anyone else gotten around this?

EDIT - Ok, maybe im dumb, but do you HAVE to have internet tethering always on? If I leave the setting on, then internet/email works fine. If its off, then I lose it on my phone.

Whoops! I really goofed this time. I didn't read the whole thread before I flashed my iPhone 3GS with the 3.1 beta and -- yep, it locked me out since I didn't register my UUID. I did have the foresight to back up my UUID, ECID and made that purplera1nyday dump.

Is there any way I could use it to my advantage to roll back to 3.0 successfully? Currently it errors out saying that it can't "upgrade" the baseband due to it being newer which makes sense.

I've been kind of working on hacking the .ipsw archive to see if I can make a hybrid 3.0/3.1 (3.0 OS with 3.1 baseband) but I'm not sure at all which file contains the baseband image. Any ideas?

Thanks very much in advance!

The only thing I lost on my 3G when loading the modified 5.0 carrier file was voicemail notifications. That's why I went back to 4.0. I kept the 5.0 file in case I have to go somewhere where wifi isn't readily available, I can load the 5.0 file, tether until I'm done, then reload 4.0.
AFAIK, you do not have to have tethering always on. The internet and email worked fine on my phone with tethering turned off. You only need it on when you want internet access from a computer through the iPhone.

I believe the only way to get tethering to work right now, with the 4.0 carrier file, is to jailbreak it and use PDAnet.

I have not jailbroken my phone, as there are only a couple of features I want that I can get by jailbreaking. One of those is tethering, which you can get around using the method described above.

Well, I got my iPhone 3GS activated, $104.50 later. :/ But it seems I can add up to 100 UUIDs to my account which is awesome. Such an expensive lesson, LOL.

Higher resolution usually doesn't make for a better picture.

I learned this the hard way after buying a 12mp digital camera. I've since returned it and gotten an 8mp which takes MUCH nicer pictures. However, the HD widescreen format would make it worth it for video...

I guess it depends on what you buy. My 12mp Samsung NV20 takes great pictures.
Although, I have taken some ridiculously good looking pictures on a 3 or 4mp Olympus.

My Leica takes much nicer pictures than my Canon 50D. It's all about lens, noise, and snootiness. :)

What about in the calendar? Like in the location field? I always have conference calls and i'd like to be able to dial or copy from there.

add phone number in note field in 123-456-7890 format will be hyperlinked

Just downloaded 3.1 and now my discontinued Apple bluetooth dials my phone/plays ipod thru headset cool
