iPhone 3G Launches, Photos, Unboxing [Updated]

With iPhone 3G, Apple's design team did a whole bunch of work under the hood that you would never be able to tell or see. They took out the aluminum back for better reception. They even went as far as to embbed the 3G and wifi antenna into the chrome bezel! They have a brand new set of speakers that are even closer to the bottom of the iPhone and I'm sure you can tell the sound difference compared to the old 2G iPhone. A flush headphone jack is also in there as Steve mentioned. The 3G is only a hair thicker than what the 2G iPhone was. You can't tell much of a difference. Oh and I got all this from my friend in the UK.

becuase with 500 new apps id like to have as much free space on my phone as possible
i also hate having useless icons and i not saying its comletly useless i just dont see why i need it if i can click phone and then go to contacts
living on the west coast of north america sucks. I have to watch every other time zone get their iphone before I get my Iphone.
I am in a dilemma on the black vs white too. white would match with my macbook and mac mini but black will be easier to keep from dirty. It is a important choice since all i am going to use is a soft case like an ipod sock with a screen protector so my colour choice is very important

How long do you think it'll take for an AT&T store to run out. I'm planning on stopping by during my lunch hour.
depends on the city i think
a big city with many att stores and a couple of apple stores wont run out as fast
then again if a lot of people in that big city want the phone then yeah.......

yeah the white is pretty slick..definately a must for a iBook/macbook owner. Now i just have to figure out what color im going to paint my 2g iphone now. Mine has been black since august? It drove me nuts when everyone started getting them bc they dropped the prices and now they are even lower and black. I must

The contacts icon is a new app installed by version 2.0. Some people complained that they want to look at contacts without having to go through the phone icon. There is no way to remove it. You are stuck.

I didn't vote it negative just because I don't care about about voting on MR stories, but if I did vote it would definitely be a negative vote. There are WAAAAYYY too many not-special MR articles about the iphone recently. There's already been tons of pics of the 3G, heck there's even been an article on a whole take-apart photo gallery!
There are WAY too many non-special-info articles about the iphone hitting the front page of MR these days. If there's a sneak peek spy shot of the new casing before it's released, that's a great front page article! If there's an unboxing photo article on the front page after there have already been hardware tear down articles showing every aspect of the product that most average readers of macrumors will care about, then that sucks.
I'm not saying these articles shouldn't be reported about on MR, but I am saying they shouldn't be on the front page. They should go where they belong, on the MR Page 2 page, or on the dedicated MR iPhone page.
positive / negative votes are just opinions, and my opinion is that there are too many banal iphone article being reported on the front page of macrumors.

100% of the articles on the entire MR front page are about the iphone or primarily iphone related! That's crazy! I don't remember that ever happening in the past for any other Apple product launch. And many of the iphone or iphone related articles are about almost nothing! It's just way too many banal iphone articles being posted on the front page IMO.
I'm a big MR fan, I don't want to come off sounding like I'm bashing the site, just giving my opinion on how to keep it good.
I need to see some pictures comparing both phones side by side. Why must Apple do this to me!?! I can't decide on which color to get!! They both look sexy.
I just wished the white kind of wrapped around to the front of the phone. It looks like a cop phone (black and white).
At least it looks as if the smudges on the white casing won't be as noticeable as the glossy black!
I've been accessing my .mac mail flawlessly through "mail" for the past two days, it is only the web interface that was down for updates.
I dont see how the white will get dirty faster unless you drop it in the mud or get a lot of grease on it. If thats the case you have more problems than dirt. The white wont be an absolute fingerprint magnet like the black and it wont show scratches as easily.

I for one am *thrilled* by the "contacts" icon. I *hated* having to hit the "phone" button and *then* "contacts" if I wanted to verify whether someone was in my address book or check any of their info for any reason. It was also a PITA when setting up a new entry for someone standing there giving me their contact info verbally. Having a separate "contacts" button just makes sense--its absence from the original iPhone software was IMHO a poor human interface decision.
just move it to a page you don't use
Oh I only have 4 icons on my main page, besides the 4 I have on the dock. All the rest are on the other pages. I was just responding to the other person's question.
