No it is not, both of my new iPhones have no yellow tint.

Please provide proof of your claim in the form of comparative side-by-side pics.

Your help here will be of great assistance to those of us (like me;)) who want to take the plunge and buy an iPhone 3G but are now fearful of a urine-colored tint. I wish there was some way of knowing just how widespread this effect is.

Does anyone notice a pattern of complaints from UK customers, and dismissals by USA customers? Something to do with which batches were sent where, or something more sinister?

This was my thought. It seems as though there could have been a bad shipment that is just affecting the UK

3G Screen Definitely looks different. Should be interesting in the next couple days....

Yeah, it should be.

The "yellower" screen really doesn't look that bad, but maybe it's one of those things I need to experience in real life. ;)

Anyone have a DSLR? Just take the WB off "Auto WB", or calibrate it to your room's light, take a photo, and lets see how much difference there really is.

But like I said before, who knows whether comparing it to the 2G iPhone's screen is really proof of a problem.

someone should sell screen protectors with a slight blue tint that will sort it all out?1:D:D:cool:

It seems that some people are determined to spit their dummies out - and not listen to as reasonable, reasoned perspective on this issue (or non issue) with their screens. And all I can say is go for it... Have a ball. Go crazy.

I only have a 2g phone - However, as I said in my original post on this thread, I bought my GF a 2g and noticed a massively noticable difference in colour. It was bluer. No question. Very noticable when you compared it to mine. So... consider the idea that the 2g one you're comparing the 3g to is actually like my gf's - too blue, it would make the 3g one look yellower than it is (which, looking at the published photos is VERY slightly yellower)...

Oh, and to those who want a definition of obtuse:

"annoyingly insensitive or slow to understand : he wondered if the doctor was being deliberately obtuse."

Kinda applicable here wouldn't I'd say. :)

Let the hysterical bitch-fest continue. You know you love it.

One person from the USA (Pennsylvania) reported getting a 3G iPhone with a "warmer" screen, noticeably different than the poster's 2G iPhone.

I am expecting more "My screen is yellow" posts as the day progresses. I hope there aren't...

Does the Field Test mode still work on the 3G phone? ( call *3001#12345#* )

If so, maybe folks could post their LCD Panel ID under 'Versions' and start to get a handle on the panel type and differences between those that notice a yellow tint and those that don't.

Your not going to want to pump the Brightness up 100% just so that White isn't Yellow. If you go 100% on brightness, then one more reason to suck battery.
White should be White.
If this is a widespread problem... then by tonight we'll know. It may be isolated? Doubtful

One more reason NOT to buy day of. When will people learn to wait 48 hours for Software updates, etc. Let the morons be the genie pigs.

:)

Speaking as someone who works in the graphic design industry the iphone has always had quite a strong blue bias. A cooler colour temp is generally more acceptable because cool whites look cleaner than warm whites.

Strictly speaking it probably isn't broken, but I expect they'll fix it in an update, by changing the default colour temp on the screen.

You would not notice this unless you have a previous iPhone side by side - specially an original US iPhone against a new 3G iPhone...

But to be honest I just love the phone so much I am not going to get hung up about the screen - when there is stock I will get it swapped...

Can the people reporting 'same color' screens on the iphone and iphone 3G take a side-by-side picture? Thanks. Just wanna make sure it's not shenanigans.

i think my screen looks ok

If all we had to worry about was wether or not our Iphone screen was yellow or not???

Im going to get ready now and go to work....ohhh I didnt mention the fact that I work in a Childrens Hosp where I often make rounds...Im sure the 8 year old child without any hair, multiple Iv sites pushing his/her IV pole with Chemo attempting to fight Cancer would love to have the same simple issues as the Yellow Iphone Screen

GET REAL FOLKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since I was the one who mentioned about less useless speculation and more hard evidence.. here is some hard evidence:

I imported the picture into Photoshop, and check the actual colors. Now assuming that the digital camera used to take this picture has no color cast of its own:

The iPhone on the left has a blue bias, the iPhone on the right has a yellow bias. However, the left iPhone has MORE of a blue blas than the yellow bias on the right iPhone. So the right iPhone actually has a more accurete color.

But if you tend to prefer a bluish color, as if you are conditioned to the way the vast majority of computer monitors look leaving the factory nowadays, with color temperature around 9000K (way too blue as daylight is only 6500K), then you might consider the right iPhone as too yellow and the left iPhone to look more "correct".

Really, ring them again.

BY LAW, it's Apple who manufactured the item, and hey should replace it for you. I had this a few months back with a macbook pro. I spent many hours on the phone to trading standards, who told me to simply tell apple that I was very aware of my rights and that it would go further if they did not fix the laptop.

Needless ot say, they fixed it.
It's a shame that it came to unsaid threats of a court case, but that is what the law is for.

CPW replace within 30 days. After that go to Apple.

Because I'm a sad **** and have nothing better to do, I decided to go to a Carphone Warehouse and O2 store to check their demo units.

All in all, I was able to check 3 demo units: 1 in the O2 store and 2 in the Carphone Warehouse store. I had by 1st Gen iPhone with me and held up next to the new iPhone and went through a couple of apps on both iPhones and compared.

All 3 iPhones that I saw in the two stores had the yellow tint.

What's even more interesting is that neither of these was the store that I purchased my iPhone from this morning!

So either the entire UK had had a bad batch of phones or I have just been extremely lucky in finding 3 phones that have the yellow tint.

everyone shouldnt have rushed out so fast 2 get it, now the ppl in line right now dont know theres a problem with the screen. But everyone wants to be the first one with it, but when ppl see u out and about with the phone they dont know u had it first u coulda just picked it up

Here we go again...

It is supposed to be WHITE at ANY brightness. My old 4 Giger has the original batch of screens on it from when they were high-priced, and it looks fine.

Have fun with cheaper screens...
