based on eddy123's picture, i like the color of the 3g iphone better

Ya. Take a look of the original one,

It really looks like iPhone 3G matches the original color during my test.

Early adopters shocked that early products aren't up to snuff. Film at eleven.

Seriously, if you're that worried about color, you could -- you know -- just WAIT before buying one to see if Apple sorts it out.

Or, you could "register your disgust on the Internet immediately" (<- comic book guy voice).

I took a trip to the local AT&T store (US, New Hampshire) (sold out). They had two 8 GB demo units. Until I pulled out my 8GB launch phone I wouldn't have noticed the "yellow." It is definitely noticable side by side. At the same time mine looked very blue.

I did notice that some screens looked much better on the 3G such as the home page. The increased contrast made the icons "pop" a little more. Personally, I preferred any screens heavy on white to be on the orignal instead of the 3G.

I think the best thing apple could do is release a "Cool, Normal, Warm" option where Cool is iPhone original, Warm is iPhone 3g and normal is somewhere in between. Of course I have no idea if this is possible.

^^^ Bladerunner...very nice.

Here's what's interesting. I was really worried about the yellow issue but now, comparing to my first gen iPhone (screen series 5) the old phone looks too blue!

I have a slight yellow tint on my iPhone screen, its really not that bad, I'll ask for it to be fixed once the whole iphone supply issues calms down a bit.

As for the comparison with the iPhone 2g screen although the 3G has a slight yellow tint, the contrast is much better on the 3G than the 2G, the blacks have a much better definition.

There is really little point in asking for a replacement now, as its really not that big of an issues and its also likely that this issues will persist on many of the early one, I'll give it a week or two.

yode, when watching videos on the iphone 1g, the home button should be on teh right, the video does not flip as to which the home button would be on teh left, like the pic you posted so something is off. and also the middle pic looks worst, look at how all the blues are green.

now that i've seen more pictures of it compaired with older iphones i don't mind it being "more yellow" it seems to have better color

Consider the attached optical illusion, and compare the shades of the A and B squares... Different shades right? - Nope. So I think people should put things in perspective.

Oh, man. Nice optical illusion! I was certain those were two different colors. Then I loaded it into Photoshop, used the eyedropper tool...and I'll be damned!

Personally, I just want my phone to freakin' activiate before I start worrying about color. :)

But looking at the comparison shots so far, this does look more like a color temperature issue than anything else. With that said, if the iPhone is to become this great mobile computing platform like Apple is envisioning, the ability to calibrate the monitor would be nice.

Right, my replacement iPhone finally activated (although strangely it just popped to life without having to go through anything on iTunes).

Here's a photo again (3G on the left, 2G on the right):

Ok, there is *definitely* still a yellow tint but its not as bad as it was on the last one.

This screen is now brighter than the earlier 3G one and my 2G one. The contrast has been racked up so icons and movies pop out and look more impressive and blacks are deeper. Whites, however, do have a yellow tinge but definitely not as bad as the one I originally posted about.

Now, I'm confident that this could be rectified with a simple colour temperature option. I would say though, if you're worried about it, take it into an O2/CPF/ATT/Apple store and compare it to some display iPhones because it does seem that some iPhones are worse than others.

I would say that it could be a good idea to give some feedback to Apple by filling out this form. If enough people give feedback about this then maybe Apple will add some colour/contrast/temperature settings in a future firmware version.

Its clear that all the new iPhones have a slight yellow tint to their screens. Obviously Apple isn't going to manufacture millions of new iPhones with different screens and replace everyone's, however, they might give us a software update that lets us choose the colour settings a bit more.

Im not sure about this but do u think that all of us will need to replace our screens or wait to get a new iphone that dosnt have the yellow tint:(, or will there be a firmware update for our tint problems:)...?

Uh, people need to stop saying that the iPhone has a cheaper screen. The iPhone costs more than original to make. AT&T pays for the rest of the phone, so it's not actually "cheaped out"

Um...having just watched this film, I'd have to say that the 3G has the most accurate color reproduction of the three.

I think you guys should consider that your 1st gen iPhones have an abnormally blue cast rather than jumping on the 3G for having what appears to be a more accurate screen.

Good lord people, at least take good pictures. Try to avoid having the use the flash and the background reflecting the the glass. Also, please center the camera as much as possible between the two phones. Ridiculous

I prefer the color balance to be towards the blue side rather then yellow. Working the in the high end audio visual production field we have to tweak 10K+ DLP projectors for accurate color balance but I never see a projectionist choose yellow tint over blue. Just my .02

Mine has a slight yellow tinge when I look at it off angle, but its not uneven nor as noticeable as some of these screenshots show.

Honestly, the color looks a bit more natural to me than my previous gen iPhone. I like it!
