Actually, I have to, respectfully disagree with those of you who like the picture of the frog on the 3G phone better. Notice the V shaped gap between the green leaf and the pink flower on the left side of the picture. On the 3G screen it appears to be black. On the right side version you can see a tinge of green. Although it appears a little "brighter" or "washed out" the picture is sharper. All that contrast they use to make the colors pop also makes the colors tend to run together and seem much darker. I tried an episode of Battlestar Galactica on my new 3G and some of the dark scenes were just a blob of shapes rather than the more crisp iPhone V1.

Just my 2 cents tho...

considering that the brightness is adjustable the right one is clearly teh better choice, look at all teh detail behind and under the frogs mouth that you're missin in teh 3g, I'M DEF NOT GETTING IT NOW. not until this is sorted out. it looks washed out and horrible.

are you kidding me? There is more color and details on the 3G than in the original. the ORIGINAL is washed out looking, LOOK AT THE WHITES ON THE BODY! You can barely see the shadows.

These screens are for all you dumb people out their who like them.

Just like the lemmings that buy the imac.

The untrained eyes of the mass market!

Unfortunately a symptom of apples success

and ever more inventive ways to cut margins.

:( Just a shame they chose profit over quality.

I definitely think this is software related. It is affecting almost every unit. How many people do not have the yellow tint?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5A345 Safari/525.20)

it's not so much the 3g has a yellowish tint as the 2g has a blueish tint. I think the 3g screen looks MUCH better.

iPhone V1 have accuret colour repoduction , Im a photographer and the V1 screens are spot on quality screens. Even the european ones.

The blue in the whites, are a correct gamma. (Like daylight).

And Yes on full brightness!!!!!! the back lighting dose shine through too much!

I just compared the screen on the old iPhone/3G iPhone/MBP and the screen on the iPhone 3G is very similar to the screen on my 2 month old Macbook Pro. The colors on both the MBP and iPhone 3G look warm compared to the V1 iPhone. I like it better on the new phone than the old because the colors look more realistic.

But if it was software, wouldn't it affect every unit?

Just like the original iPhone, they might have two screen suppliers. With the original iPhone, some at start up had dots on the screen against the black background( mine did it), but within the next update or two the dots were gone. If it is a hardware related there seems to enough of these units that have the yellow screen issue, a good ol' class action lawsuit will make Apple recall the 3G iPhones to replace them with good screens. But, I suspect it is a software issue.

Yellow versus not so much

Bought two iPhones (8GB black / 16GB white). The black has the same display characteristics as my 1G iPhone. The 16GB is yellow. It will go back tomorrow.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone else's iPhone 3Gs have a yellow screen tint?

You can see it clearly in the following photo. The iPhone 3G is on the left, my old iPhone 2G is on the right. The 3G's one is distinctly yellow and dimmer than the 2G one when set to identical brightness.

I'm on the phone to Apple Support now to try to look into this fault. :(

I am pissed right now....I wait in line....wait for activation, now I have to head back to the store because of the crappy screen.

I think Apple and I need a break from each other.

I think we have to take the 3G on what it is.

Like the redesigned imac and macbooks & their none professional displays. ;)

( As apple like to call them. )

Millions of colors! has anybody sued apple over that false claim yet.

You can either live with it , accept it, or not buy into in and wait for the next revision/ redesign and see what happens.

Personally I think the consumer dose not have a voice with apple anymore and even steve is over powered by bored members only interested in profit.

Who makes the buying decisions their. Cuz they need to be sacked and are undermining apple reputation of quality.

Word of mouth is thats a nostalgic memory!

Surprised jobs hasn't lost the faith.! LOL Rant Over !!!!!! Feels Better !

This is what the frog really looks like on the first generation iPhone. This a much higher res photo. I do not have my tripod with me so the focus is a tiny bit off but you can even see the pixel's with my Canon digital SLR. Anyway, it is hardly washed out when centered and taken correctly.

I can't think of the last apple product that had a screen where people didn't claim it was defective on a mass scale.
