Can someone PLEASE answer this question, I have read the thread but couldn't find a direct answer.

I am out of contract with O2 as of now. I have been offered their Online Simplicity 1 month contract for £19/month including unlimited data.

Could I just buy a PAYG iPhone 3GS and stick my Simplicity sim in and have everything including internet working as normal? Thus saving money in the long run.

Could even get a second had 3G and save even more cash?

Buying out your contract

MacWorld UK has just reported that you must buyout your existing contract first before you pick up your new phone if you want to upgrade from the 3G version.

As one poster stated, what if you cancel your contract and then queue for a new phone and they don't have one in stock?

Then you're buggered. Best to just wait until the day itself before you call up and cancel.

That sounds like a nightmare scenario. Just feels like O2 have us by the balls with all this running around we'd have to do. I wont be upgrading early, but will just go with the PAYG option
 
what if your iphone 16gb is insured and next month you claim your phone is lost.. will they replace it with the new iphone 16gb 3gs ?

Almost certainly not: they have stocks of them for replacements just like Apple do. Oh and insurance fraud is a criminal offence.

i was just finding some info.. im not going to be doing it...

im still thinking weather to get the iphone 3gs as my old contract as finished
 
Anyone know when we can upgrade on-line? Will I have to wait until the 19th making it impossible to get it on the 19th?

If I use my upgrade code I only get offered the current 3G version.

You'd have to wait a good 4-6 months or so first so they get rid of the old stock!

It will be a lot longer than that. My mum got a Nokia 5110, as an insurance claim, FIVE years after they stopped making them. No joke. Mind, the iPhone will be in shorter supply, but they will hold on til the very last breath before they give you something other than what you originally bought.
 
May i also recommend people go to apple not o2 to buy their pay as you go phones.
 
Why is it that in the USA they can preorder and the UK cannot.

My contract 2g iPhone expires this month and i'm ready to order by new iPhone but i'd rather have it preordered or sent to me.

Come on O2 get your act together.:mad:

Probably because O2 were charging £392 for the 16GB iPhone 3G on PAYG. It now costs £440. IMO the 8GB and 16GB should have dropped by about £20 or stayed the same, with the 32GB to weigh in around £450ish. Would love it if Apple posted cheaper PAYG prices on their site. Love it.

We really need some other carriers for competition. Competition is healthy for us consumers
 
Well

A) I dont want O2 when they register the iphone to see that I am a contract user and work out what I am doing and not sell me one.

B) I'd rather give apple my dosh!
 
Anyone heard any news from Carphone Warehouse about the preorder?

I know they have had a pre-register, which I'm signed to, but there's been no news on the preorder....

Unless I'm being very blind and stupid, which is always apossibility.

Sorry if this has already been answered, I'm at work and can't spend too long looking.

I heard it was on the moro when they are accepting pre orders.
