Got my PAYG 32gb black from Apple white city, activated using my simplicity sim....They threw the payg sim in the bag anyway, i can top it up with a tenner if i ever wanna use it. Anyone know if it can be used in a non iphone for the 12 months free data and wifi.

I can't see why not. They don't know what phone it's in.

Hi,

I have a iphone 3G and my contract with O2 is up in Dec. Im going to buy a 3GS 2morrow on PAYG. Can i just swap sims with my contract? I want to then sell my 3G to my friend. Im also paying insurance with O2 will they cover the 3GS?

Also when I plug my 3GS into iTunes will it pass over all my contacts\emails\apps etc?

Thanks :)

Yes, you can just swap the SIMS. That's exactly what I've done today.

Sync via iTunes just before swapping SIMs to make sure everything is backed up, and you're then given the option of restoring from the backup when you activate the new phone, and everything transfers across.

Got my iPhone 32GB White 3GS this morning from bullring apple store. Was planning to get there about 7am, but woke up late and got there about 7:45, with 32 people in front of me.

Busier than I thought, waited about an 45mins-1hr to be served. Decided to go with white after seeing that the black iphone still smudges like hell.

Only complaint is that they made me top up/activate PAYG sim
Also the apple guy who did the activation said that all of the people that came in have had 32GB version

Never paid so much for a phone...this a truly my jesus phone I must be crazy ;) but it's soooo fast! 3rd party apps run so fast they feel like native apps

Got mine this evening from the Liverpool Apple Store - quite busy there but I only had about a 2 minute wait to be served, it seemed a smooth process upgrading from my 2G. I'd say anyone going tomorrow should have a good chance of getting what they want, the girl serving me said it'd been quite busy through the day but they'd only had a queue of 20 in the morning.

If you already had an iPhone SIM (pay G or contract) - then they shouldn't have asked you to get a top up. Similar thing happened today to me and I never paid anything for the top-up. In fact, the SIM is still sealed in the o2 envelope.

Anyone planning to purchase a PayG and use their current contract sim.....Make sure you have it with you to activate the iPhone in store. Otherwise you'll have to cough up the ten quid to topup and activate using the PayG sim.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but i upgraded from CFW last year.

I am considering upgrading and as i am happy to start a new contract i thought i would rather buy at the apple store [bluewater]. This is just for the 'true' apple experience:D. however i was wondering if they open the phone to activate. I couldn't find this information or interpret it from other posts.

Thanks

for contract handsets they get you to open the phone and take it out to activate it: you can leave the plastic protective film on it. ;)

For PAYG I understand they just give you the phone and that's it.

Certainly not true of all stores. Although I had my contract SIM with me, they gave me a new PAYG SIM at no charge and used this to activate the phone in store. This was Apple in Kingston, Bentall Centre.

Edit: They did give me the option to just activate at home, but I thought given historic issues with activation I might have a better chance of it working then and there.

At the Trafford Centre Apple store this morning every phone was opened and activated in front of you. Contract and PAYG.

Or is it worth coughing up the £10 which isn't much in the great scheme of things. And for that you get a sim with a years free unlimited internet to stick in your other phone. Or like me, use when the contract runs out at the end of the year.

As far as I know they open the phone to activate it. Apple Bluewater was busy today but no long wait, took me 25 minutes to do 2 phones. They did say tomorrow will be busy so get there early. There are 2 o2 stores and 2 CPW stores in Bluewater as well.:):)

Thanks everyone for the reply. I take it this is different to last year as I walked into CFW and payed for the phone and activated at home. Thanks for the information on Bluewater, however unfortunately I don't think I will be in a position to buy tomorrow, as much as I want one I will have to wait. As well does anyone have any suggestions on weather black or white. I had black so i am thinking white for a change. Thanks for your help.

PS. Is the activation system the same in the o2/CFW stores.

i have to say. The people who are posting pics of the apple store..... why are you like this? What makes you so happy to wake up at 5am and got to store opening to get a new phone? I understand the fun and exitement, but .... some of you peopple take it to an extreme.

WHO IS USING SIMPLICITY?
LETS TALK ABOUT SIMPLICITY.
DO 02 HAVE ANY OTHER SIMS/PLANS APART FROM SIMPLICITY THAT WILL WORK ON IPHONE?

I've been using simplicity for almost two years now

ANY O2 sim will work on the iPhone

when you buy a Pay&Go iPhone, the Data Sim MUST BE SOLD WITH IT, its a package deal. The £10 Top Up Activates the Sim Card.

I Didnt even have to activate mine in store, just wanted to know my Phone Number and Post Code, to verify im on Contract, then i walked out with a sealed iPhone 3GS.

O2 are making some surprising claims about sales today, see here

Sales on launch day so far are higher than for the 3G. I'm amazed!

That is because the computer system was down most of the day last year. It took me 5 hours at the Apple Store and I was one of the first out.

The topup failed this afternoon when I bought my payg. Can you activate the sim by paying cash and not giving an address?

nice.

So would it be best if i bought everything online?
ie bought simplicity online from 02....
and buy iphone from apple online.....
Or are there benefits from going in store and doing it in person?

has anyone noticed that carphonewarehouse have changed the pricing of the 16gb handset on the 18 month £45 tarriff to free?!! im so pissed because i have just forked out £89 for the handset on mobiles.co.uk for the smae tarriff!:( Is there any point me disputing this cost with mobiles.co.uk by referring them to the carphone warehouse website, this has really tainted my excitement in getting the new iphone:( I would appreciate any advice from you guys, thanks x

this is the price you pay, for the exitement and joy you feel for buying on the first day.
I hope the prices drop next week for all tariffs and handsets, so then i can laugh at all the jokers who woke up at 5am and drooled all the way to the apple cashier with a wad full of smackeroonies. :D:D

I was previously on a 12 month contract and then called them up to switch my tariff so i didn't buy online.

As for buying the phone online you get to unwrap it yourself, activate it yourself and you don't have to pay the £10 top-up fee but you have to wait...no instant gratification. Buying on the ground means you'd probably have to do all of the above but instant gratification
