Hi,

Im a few hours from purchasing an iPhone 3GS on the £34.26 contract! Wooo, although i have a few last questions before i buy!

1. is the £34.26 including V.A.T or does that have to be added?

2. What internet is really included? i am going to be using the internet and email quite a bit really! on the site it says;

is this the same as the internet bolt on on other normal contracts?

Those are my main questions, also is there anything you guys would recommend doing, or anything i should watch out for or other advice?

Thanks
Kyle

Yes incl VAT

Unlimited Wi-Fi/Internet means just that you can use either 3G or Wi-Fi for all your internets needs. The Internet bolt-on on other contracts is usually 3G only no wi-fi

Hi guys

Which operator do you think has better 3g coverage in UK (Warwick/Stratford area)?

And is O2 the only operator to offer mobile internet for £7.50 per month?

Go to the 5 major carrier websites and check their coverage against your area

Other carriers offer 7.50 bolt-ons IIRC

Ok, thank you for your reply.

I just went to VodafoneUK website and they have £7.50/month internet plan but usage limit is 500Mb/month! It's just too low for an iPhone (1st time in UK, I'm planning to use GMaps a lot).

Do you have any idea how many Mb/month O2 does offer for £7.50 a month? They say it's unlimited but I hardly believe that (I can't access O2 website from outside UK).

It's unlimited, but with a fair use policy. So there's no set limit, but if they feel you are using it excessively they will contact you to ask you to stop.

It's unlimited, but with a fair use policy" - oxymoron. :)

I've heard various people claiming that O2 contacted them after 200Mb usage, and that's the only number I've found so far.

There are no iPhones in any London shops! What's going on?

I went to 2 Carphone Warehouses and a O2 Shop but found no 16GB 3GSes in either black or white!

EDIT: Dias, I heard that O2 dropped the fair use policy now.

So you mean it's actually unlimited now?

I don't expect them to be able to offer petabites of traffic usage, but I'd be pretty happy with 2Gb/month (that is what I have right now in Italy).

my 3G contract runs out on jan 10th - i'm currently using that sim in my payg 3gs..

i hope to go onto simplicity.. the £20 tariff looks sweet.. 600 mins/1200 texts with free web bolt on..

that's £15 cheaper per month than the current iphone tariff i'm on... madness!!! lol

right, my 3 contract ends in jan2010.
3 have told me if i want to termintate and get pac code, i need to phone them or write to them by dec 4th to request pac.

i really really do not understand 02 pay go options and even their support didnt help, they answered half a question and then ignored me.

i think im gonna go for simpicity sim.

In what order shall i do this?
shall i buy a pay go iphone? use pay go for a bit to test it out, see how much i spend etc.
And THEN if i want simplicity, then buy that sim.

I definately want to PAC my current number from 3.
So could i start using the NEW pay go iphone number/sim initially, PAC the current number over, and then PAC it over again to simplictiy?

(thanks for any help, im gonna re-read this thread now)

I'd do it like this.

Buy a simplicity SIM (online via Quidco - 12 months contract - £100 cashback, therefore it would make the monthly cost about £11.20 per month, ordering simplicity online would also give you far more minutes and texts). Make sure you pick the £19.58 12 month tariff for cashback and choose the 'unlimited web' bolt on from the list.

Buy PAYG handset.

Ring O2 and give them your PAC to port the number into your simplicity SIM.

When using a Wi-Fi hotspot for the first time, register your PAYG handset for the 12 month free wi-fi you get included.

thankyou.
quidco cashback, never heard of it.
ive had one experience with cashback, company went bankdrupt scam, i was owed £150. so i just dont trust cashback offers any more.
why would quidco give me £100?
buying from quidco would be the EXACT simplicity deal sim?
so then im tied to 12 month contract, i was kinda looking forward to the monthly rolling contract.

can i not port my pac code over to the PAY GO sim initially, and THEN several weeks later, port over the number from PAY Go to simplicity?

so say if i register the pay go sim for wi fi, when i put the simplicity sim inside the phone, in order to use the wi fi spots i will have to switch the sims over and insert the pay go sim?

sorry for all q's. cheers.

PS. i dont think i will ever use wi fi spots out and about. I think using the 3G data connection would be suffice.

is this it? cant find the link

Quidco is a legit web-based cashback service. I've been using them for nearly 3 years now and they show no signs of going bust! They also pay directly into your bank account via Paypal so no messing about with filling in claims etc. Its seriously worth looking into, I've had nearly £600 from them over the last few years for buying various things, renewing insurance etc.

Of course, you could go for the 30 day sim only if you want the flexibility of leaving when you want. This is my current dilemma, as I'm out of contract in Jan and not sure I want to commit to 12 months, given the likelihood of a new handset in June/July.

Anyway, back to the phone. Not sure re the porting questions. With some networks, you only have a short window to port your number in then you're stuck with the number you've been allocated. You'd need to check with O2.

When I registered my PAYG iPhone 3GS for the free wi-fi, I'm pretty sure I had my pay monthly SIM for my old 3G inside it, i.e. the sim doesn't matter, you register the IMEI, take the free 12 months Wi-fi, then chuck the PAYG sim. If you search the forums, there is probably a better explanation of method than this. I don't use the wi-fi much but as it was free and included with the PAYG phone, I regsitered for it (as the phone was £440!)

cheers.

so whats the quidco process? i sign up and then?
i pay quido monthly? or i deal with 02? my customer support is still 02 ?
are 02 happy about people using quidco?

sorry but why would a company give a consumer £100 for nothing?

cheers.

Let's say you click on an O2 ad on Google, and you buy a 12 month Simplicity through that. O2 pay Google £100 for getting them business. Exactly the same thing happens through Quidco, except they pass the £100 onto you instead of keeping it themselves. Quidco take £5 from you each year for their service. So it's not Quidco that's paying you the money, it's O2, Quidco are the middlemen.

02 pay google for that example? really?

so ive just signed upto quidco now.
i just find the product and it links me to the offical apple or 02 website and i just buy online from 02 as usual?

quidco says "Cashback is not paid for iPhones"
but there are links for iphone cashback at 4% on quidco site.

If you're buying a SIM only simplicity deal, then the cashback is for that.

If you buy the PAYG handset, O2 won't give cashback for that but the Apple Store online pay 4% via quidco (assuming you're not using educational discount).

So I'd get your Simplicity SIM online at O2 Store (via quidco) - £100 cb
Then your PAYG handset from Apple Store online (via Quidco) - 4% cb on a 16gb 3gs - £17.60.

Total £117.60 back.

That's the way I'd do it......

so i just pay 02 monthly £20 as normal and then i get £100 cash from quidco after 1 year? real money in my hand? or do i just pay the discounted price per month?

educational discount is more than 4%?

thanks.

You just pay O2 as usual and get the cashback within a few months. You have to give some payment details to Quidco so they can pay your money into your account. You can't get educational discount on the iPhone so 4% on a PAYG iPhone is pretty good. I got mine just a few weeks ago.
