So, BT have messed up and cancelled my broadband in to the house. I really need web access tonight to do some work via my laptop. Is there any way to enable tethering on an un-jailbroken O2 handset without paying the fees, or do i just have to buy a tethering bolt-on and suck up the charges like a man?

Thanks.

Takes about 1 minute..very very easy.

If you want a hand PM me...

I just had a carrier update on my iPhone 3GS when I went to charge it. I then got spammed with a few MMS messages... were they disabled before?

What do you guys do when taking your iPhone aboard? Just use a WiFi connection, and just text people?

Make sure you switch off data roaming otherwise you could rack up massive charges without realising it.

Texting is a good idea. Check with O2 but I think that you can use your allowance and each text counts as two. Seems fair enough to me.

Incoming texts are free of course.

Each text you send uses four from your allowance.

You 100% on that? Would just liek to confirm really. Ive got no idea, but you seem pretty sure thanks :)

Totally. Don't use your iPhone's texting client though, you'll get charged a fortune for sending texts while you're roaming. Use FishText over WiFi instead.

ah cool, didnt even know about this fish text the best app to use for this? :D

Yup, its off. So even with it on and if you dont use it you still get charged?

I was hoping O2 would follow suit with vodafones charging policy aboard-but they havent :( Well at least ive not heard anything?

Text messages abroad are included in your domestic allowance. Pay Monthly customers can use text messages from within their normal text message allowance, at a rate of 4 to 1 i.e. you will use 4 normal text messages to send a text message from anywhere abroad.

True... but would you rather pay £1.10 to send 10 texts while you're roaming, or 20p? It's still a massive saving if you text a lot.

I'm not a heavy texter so when I'm abroad, the 4 texts per text from my standard allowance usually covers my needs. And of course you need wi-fi for your suggestion which limits it's usage.
