-SMS Backup. My texts got backed up to a folder in Gmail automatically. Sometimes people text me a number or and address I'd forget to put into my contacts. No sweat, because they were backed up.

-Google Maps. Needless to say, they work better on Android. This is a big one.
Google Maps is available on iphone and from what I've read, supposedly google maps actually is nicer on iphone?
You are still unable to use it as the default app. If I search for something on the internet on my Android device and click the Navigation button it brings me to whatever I have set as default. So while yes you do have it, it isn't integrated into the system and currently apps use the Apple Maps API instead of the superior Google Maps one.
-More functional notification tray. Included toggles for things like wifi, Bluetooth, etc.

-Overall, more apps (often free) that could replace stock apps (like text, email clients, etc) if you wanted to add features. This requires JBing on an iPhone.

-Pop up video natively (watch a video while checking fb, email, text etc)
Not sure how useful this would be to me, as watching a video and reading email/txt/etc i'm going to have to take my attention off of one or the other
Not terribly useful but still a neat feature. Best use I have found for it is popping a video out while it loads to continue reading something. Say Facebook for instance. With larger real estate on these bigger Samsung phones it makes a lot more sense when you want to multitask anyways. Cannot see it of much use on the small iPhone screens. But the iPad however...
-Swipe for screen shots
Push the home button and the on/off button for screenshots on iphone
You can do that, or you can swipe the screen and it takes a screenshot. Its just easier.
-NFC (for various tasks and mobile payments)
Has this caught on anywhere yet? I'd like to see this at big chains for it to be worthwhile
In Houston there are plenty of chains and gas stations that utilize this. Even in the surrounding lesser areas too. All McDonalds have them now and Jack in the Boxes all over here have had them for atleast a decade. Also payment's is not the only use... tapping an embedded NFC chip can do functions on your phone like turn on Pandora, Silence or open a webpage. NFC Tags are readily available on online merchants and are cheap. Lastly it will establish any ad hoc data connection between two devices running Android when tapped together. Instead of opening a transfer program or configuring a connection a simple Tap does all that for you and begins transferring right away.
-Live wallpaper

-Google now (siri on steroids)
Siri
-Smart stay (keeps phone screen lit as long as you're looking at it)
I like this one, I doubt there is a way for this to work on iphone
It could as it uses the front facing camera.
-Direct dial

-Voice control for apps (take a picture by simply saying cheese, capture, or snap, when your alarm goes off, you can stop it or snooze it by just saying it, or while playing music, you can control the player with the commands play, pause, previous, next, volume up, and volume down. Very convenient while washing dishes or listening to music)
Siri can do a lot of these, maybe just not picture taking or the alarm
Difference here is that you have to be in the Siri app, correct me if I am wrong as I never use Siri.
-MicroSD card slot
icloud and itunes match instead of having to buy extra cards
Free iCloud space is limited to 5 GB and SD cards are really inexpensive. Why not have both like most Android devices do? Well Apple would stand to make less money by offering the choice.
-You can use a completely different lock screen

-you can make any browser you like your default

-downloading bluray torrent files with ability to send file to other phones
I don't know of a way to download torrents, but I can easily send files using the BUMP app
Problem with bump is it requires both devices to be connected on the same wifi connection to be fast. If not it goes over the cellular data connection which is spotty and can be slow. WiFi Direct establishes a direct WiFi connection between two devices without a wireless Switch or Router. It is very convient and fast. It is also how NFC based S-Beam transfers data.
-Use the gs3 as a media hub to browse movies on home network
I am able to do this using apple tv to access all my movies on my macs
Requires an additional $100 dollar device however.
-play NES games
Achieavable with jailbreaking on iphone?

-I can change battery when there is no electricity.
So you would need to buy a new battery, iphone users can buy battery cases
Battery cases add thickness and bulk to the iPhone. While a spare battery keeps the profile the same. You can also buy an bigger battery for your Android device however it adds more bulk to your device. Lastly... if you are having battery failure on your iPhone you can order a new one but risk damaging the phone while changing it as opening iPhones for repair is not easy. Or you can pay Apple more money for a new phone. With most Android devices you just buy a new battery, remove the battery door, slot it and put the battery door back on.
-I can use my friends charger even though he is using a different make of phone to me.
Most of my friends/family own iphones and a lot are buying the new devices with lightning, but my battery usually lasts a day and a half so i've never needed to borrow a cord
It is the option to be able to use these cords since microusb cords are everywhere. Far more prolific than Lighting cables.
-I can get updates. (a jailbroken iPhone cannot without losing its jailbreak and all the things you have mentioned that could have be done by jailbreaking)
This is true
-I can drag and drop movies and music onto my phone.
I can do the same through iTunes
It is far easier to do it with Android devices. When you plug in an android device it opens up on your PC as an external drive where you drag and drop and unplug. With iTunes you have to wrestle with the program to sync and even then aren't you limited to what you can actually sync to an iOS device?
-I can use a dedicated back button (really useful)
Not sure what you mean here, the iphone has the home button
In iOS you have to use an onscreen back button and developers do not always place them in the upper left hand side. On Android devices you have a dedicated back button which is always located near the home button in the same spot regardless of what screen you are on.
-I can use the google ecosystem (IMHO, easier than Apple's)
Apple users can also use the google ecosystem
Does it integrate as nicely as it does in an Android device though?
-I can use face unlock.
Very cool, one question (Serious) what if someone has a picture of you? Would that unlock it?
You could but you can also have it set to only unlock after a blink.
-I can have the front light blink in different colours to different notifications.
I have my iphone led light up for incoming calls/texts although it is NOT customizable
I've seen this in action and it just isn't as good both due to the placement of the flash led and the non customization.
-I can use micro sim cards and use the information on them when there is no wifi or 3g/4G signal (when cloud computing/storage isn't available) and not have any data charges.
I'm a little confused by this statement, how will a micro sim card give you storage? My iphone has 64gb, along with itunes match and icloud, at this point if i had an extra storage slot
Think he meant MicroSD. Still the choice to slot is still better than no choice. Disregarding the low storage in iCloud you could have 64GB + 128GB worth of storage. People say that their storage is enough, this is largely on a per person basis and could be subject to change based on usage evolution. If it wasn't Apple wouldn't be releasing devices with 128GB worth of storage.

On the topic of Jailbreaking...

A lot of the basic stuff you say you just need to jailbreak is really simple stuff that will a) not allow you to update and b) not allow you to do if there is no jailbreak for the current version.

So while you gain access to simple things available on stock android it cuts your update potential down and you actually begin to lose features on new iOS version while you wait on an update. Just look how long the last jailbreak took and they are closing those holes to further slow the next version's jailbreak.

IMO Samsung's marketing is a classic textbook case of Marketing, and more specifically features vs benefits. Samsung always touts its large and long list of features, but that's all they are; it's not like they actually BENEFIT you in the end.

Which sounds better?
Samsung GSIII:
-Tilt phone to zoom on a web page
-Battery Manager App to help make your battery last the longest

iPhone 5:
-Tight integration across all devices
-A system run efficiently enough to where it doesn't need that

Samsung's marketing consists primarily of gimmick-touting (as exemplified in the attached image) vs the benefits that Apple's devices offer. While the iPhone is not without its own gimmicks, they are not marketed as a forerunner feature like Samsung does with its Galaxy line.

Great reply.

Samsung just made a better phone, period.

I disagree goto, www.apple.com/iphone in safari and flip through the highlights.

There are 6 things.

1. It's thinness and weight
2. 4" screen "it's just right!" Lol
3. Ultra fast wireless
4. A6 "chip"
5. iSight camera that shoots panorama
6. iOS 6 "worlds most advance mobile OS"

Some are gimmicks the rest are total lack luster. iPhone 5's iSight camera can shoot panorama.....like my 4S. iOS 6 is the most advance mobile OS that even die hard iOS lovers want to see serious updates for. Ultra fast wireless? Ok lol, my old Xoom has a better LTE strength and can max out my 40 mbs wifi.

I'm not seeing anything worth bragging about.

Btw wasnt that pic proven to be made by a Samsung fanboy not Samsung?

Well, this is really a no match (in S3 favor) Here's a monster list of what I can do on my non-rooted totally stock S3 which are not possible on Iphone (some of them even not possible with jailbreak)

====

- A File Explorer that combines phone and cloud storages (box, gdrive, db etc) using side-by-side views allowing easy movement of files betw. storages. Ability to use the "Open With..." to open any file using any registered & installed apps.

- Easily share any files/contents via any registered share providers (BT, Wifi, cloud storages, social networks, usb etc). You can add new share streams easily (by installing apps). No need to wait for OS upgrade like Iphone.

- Ability to download/save any files from any sources (browser, apps etc) into the phone storage. No need to use dropbox like iphone wasting cellular data and battery life or slow response.

- Files copied to phone storage are accessible by any built-in/3rd party apps. (on iphone for example, you need to reload itunes media files in the phone to dropbox if you want to use 3rd party media players instead of stock iphone player)

-Ability to attach multiple files of any types to email (incl. re-edit re-attach). Ability to edit/view any attachments as long as there is a installed app that handles the file type.

- Multi-clipboard (last 50 clippings + predefined text) to easily enter/paste text anywhere.

- Easily set custom ringtone. Just copy rintone files to phone via any available means (bt, wifi, cloud etc). It will show up in ringtone selection. No need to go thru tedious steps (like in iOS)

- Tap on NFC sticker to automate task (e.g tap NFC sticker in car will auto turn on BT, start music playing, set the phone to "drive" mode and activate turn-by-turn navigation app).

- Set phone to only allows calls from "Family" contact group from 12-7am. Plus auto reject any calls that is in the blacklist. You can set-up multiple schedules (unlike iOS "do not disturb")

- If there is a "meeting" entry in calendar, phone auto change to vibrate mode and only allows "family" and "work" contact group calls during the meeting period. (No need to remember to flip the silent switch on/off like in Iphone).

- Phone conversation recording is auto turned on for calls with a certain prefix. Plus you can play a tune or send a pre-defined message to callers if you didnt pick up the phone.

- Background write entries into a (sub) Google calendar for calls/sms activities (like a diary). Very useful if you have multiple cell lines. No need to move log/sms from one phone to another any more.

- Direct dial/sms with picture icon on desktop or in folder for quick one touch operation. Plus ability to create shortcuts to any files/contents for quick one-touch access.

- Auto send pre-defined sms/email to contacts birthday / anniversary. Auto backup data. Auto check-in to social networks based on location. Auto background upload of photos to ANY social networks (without needing to open the apps manually).

- Location-based (cell tower/gps) automation. e.g. when picking up someone auto-send a reminder sms when you are near predefined pickup point. Or turn on/off phone settings (BT, wifi, sound etc) when you enter/exit a certain predefined location.

- Ability to use "live" wallpaper to beautify your home scree OR ability to auto-change static wallpaper periodically. Plus use transparent icons without labels on desktop screen. Also use gestures for tasks/app launching (e.g. tap or swipe-up for different operations)

- Use widgets to display self-updating current essential info (tw,fb,g+,IMs,stock, weather etc) on the desktop screens. No need for tedious one-by-one opening of apps to view new information like in Iphone.

- Phone will keep the screen on if it detects that you are looking at the screen (Smart Stay).

- Phone will rotate screen based gyro + face detection (Smart Rotation). Reduces all the unwanted screen rotations.

- Turn the phone over to switch to vibrate mode (or have ring silenced during incoming call). Tilt phone to zoom when in gallery/browser. Plus shake to unlock phone and many others.

- Multi-use LED indicator for events (missed call/sms etc). Also can have repeated sound reminders for missed call/sms/calendar/other events.

- Quickly toogle phone settings from notification area. Easily set alerts to notify of cell duration/data usage.

- True multi-tasking allows for concurrently running "stacked" applications. Use the hard "Back" button to easily navigate back from stacked application windows. (no need to fumble about and wasting time to restart previous app like in Iphone)

- Fully working and always-on Skype, G+, voip... etc (receive as well as make calls). Plus Integration to phone contact to easily initiate call/video-call/message directly from phone contact.

- Soft keyboard with multi-words prediction and easy punctuations (i.e. less typing). Include swype keyboard and T9 keyboard. Also IN-PHONE voice to text module without needing to connect to Internet (jelly bean).

- Easy unlock lockscreen (swipe in any direction - no need to look for unlock switch). Able to use pattern lock or facial unlock. Lock screen includes 5 shortcuts which activate app directly. Ability to add widgets to lockscreen (4.2 above)

- Able to use voice commands to change phone settings + do navigation + etc (which are not available in iPhone)

- Easily connect portable devices (hard disk, usb-hub, keyboards, game controllers, Bluetooth devices) to phone and use them with the USBToGo/usb-host capability.

- Ability to create unrestricted phone-to-other-devices wireless connection via Wi-Fi Direct and BT.

- Listen to (airwaves) FM Radio.

- Much more functional camera/video taking app (panorama, multi-shot, best shot, share shot, buddy shot, smile shot, take photo/video in various resolutions, iso selection etc)

- Output phone display to external monitor/TV using cheap and non-proprietary HDMI-out cable. Add a Bluetooth mouse and you can replicate what you can do with Airplay/Apple TV (at much cheaper price and certainly more portable)

- Use DLNA to stream media to any DLNA-enabled devices without needing expensive add-on equipments (like apple tv).

- Able to load into phone and play any media files (avi, mkv, divx) directly without tedious conversion. (i.e. transfer files into phone via bt,wifi, cloud etc and play). Unlike Iphone/iOS where you can only load media from one master itunes PC and also wasting time waiting for Itunes to convert these videos.

- Able to play video in popup window (i.e Popup Play). You can continue to watch video while doing other tasks simultaneously.

- Able to expand phone storage to max 96 Gb. Potential can have unlimited in-phone storage by attaching a portable drive using the USBToGo capability.

- Better productivity with much faster scrolling capability than iphone. see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EH1GDLunomY

- Removable battery for extended use without needing to carry heavy/bulky external battery packs. Replaceable/removable back cover so you can enjoy and use phone without casing if you want to (without worrying of expensive scratch repairs).

- Able to set a reading font size in browser. When zoomed in, text always appear at this specified font size. Text is also reflow to fit the screen for easy reading without side-scrolling.

- Legacy Flash plugin support to view flash sites (incl. browser embedded you-tube)

- Able to press the home-button to answer call or power button to end call. Plus set speed dial numbers on the Phone dialpad. And predictive contact search via dialpad.

- GOOGLE NOW

- Able to SEAMLESSLY replace any stock apps with 3rd party apps to upgrade or improve functionalities. Also, app automatically scale up to match screen size (unlike Iphone 5 which runs older app with letterbox strips)

- Better overall and more functional Google-based services/apps. Ability to search for and install apps using PC browsers. Ability to "side-load" apps without going through online app store. Refund period for app purchase. Many different online app stores. Ability to backup your phone to microSD card.

- Multiple accounts per phone. Selectively sync from them. e.g. Add multiple google accounts to phone and you can selectively choose what ("contact", "calendar", "application" etc) to sync from the different accounts to phone.

- Much larger physical screen.

I can do all the things the OP claims he can do by jailbreaking his iPhone on my stock S3. But lets, just for the minute allow jailbreaking, I can still do all those things, and so can he, but my warranty is not voided.

Such passion for a phone:eek:
If you use all that on a regular basis then... Ok.
I don't, and the Apple ecosystem works very well for me.
Your list is too long to go point by point, some of them, IOS does as well or better, Airplay, ICloud backup and services, Safari, some are opinion like battery etc. Some are frankly silly, some are nice features.

The S3 is all gimmicky to me. I would get a Note 2 before getting an S3.

Besides the horrible plastic build quality (I won't go into it), the phone lags even with the latest Jellybean update. It is literally the only phone I've used that has Jellybean yet still lags.

The Note 2 had minimal lag and the DNA had NO lag at all.

I haven't used NFC at all with the S3 or Note 2 because literally no one else has an S3 or Note 2.

First of all the note 2 and the gs3 are both made from polycarbonate and the international gs3 has the same exact freaking hardware as the note 2.

Don't come in here saying ******** about how the gs3 lags without one link to proof to back up your BS claims,do you own both phones?do you own a gs3?did you know the stock usa gs3 has a better gpu then the note 2 and its snapdragon cpus are based off ARMS A15 cpus and there 2 cpus basically match the older a9 cores used in the older exynos soc.

The stock snapdragon gs3 will blow the living doors of of any cell that uses the same hardware and is a far distant more smoother than any other cell Iv used and can back it up with benchmarks.the moto droid M has the same exact hardware as the gs3 and it lags like hell and the gs3 scores an almost 1000 points higher in quadrant,do you know why it does?

have you ever heard of cyanogen mod?He is one of the best android developers and Samsung hired him to work as the main software engineer to build the stock roms for the g3s and the note 2s

That is why the gs3 runs so damn smooth compared to others and the browser tweaks it has is even faster than the google chrome browser that is shipping with the new nexus now.

Did you ever think for a second that the gs3 you used had a crap load of 3rd party apps running that hog the living hell out of the cpus and spam the cell to hell?

that's another point to where Samsung is for open source, they saw how well cyanogen is with his asop roms and hired him to work for them, thats like apple going to the group that jailbroke the iphone and asking them to help make ios 7

that's another point to where Samsung is for open source, they saw how well cyanogen is with his asop roms and hired him to work for them, thats like apple going to the group that jailbroke the iphone and asking them to help make ios 7

I wouldn't bother if I was you. No point trying to have a balanced discussion with someone that said

And Apple hasn't changed the iPhone keyboard because it isn't broken. It is simply the best on the market.

Okay so here's a roundup. Now please keep in mind, I have responded with my personal preferences and uses. I'm not trying to speak for others, my goal was to find that "must have" feature that android might have that I don't or will never
get using an iphone. (Or maybe I have just don't know I need them yet)And while it looks like there are a lot of features an S3 can do out of the box that my iphone may not, a LOT of these features are either things I would never or very rarely use, or actually not a benefit at all for me
like phone size/screen size, file system access. Not to mention some of the apple features I would lose...

-iTunes match (all of my music available on all my devices without the hassle of a file system or manually dragging and dropping files)Not to mention all my lower quality music is upgraded.

-find my iphone (I can find my lost iphones/ipads/macs VERy easily)

-Siri (I use siri all the time to txt, call, navigate)

-Ability to send my pics/videos to a TV with a push of a button, ANY TV just by plugging in an apple TV, my friends are also able to do the same while at my house

-ios normally gets apps first, not a huge deal, but it's nice not having to wait.

-ios users are not a prime target of malware (yet). My co-worker just got a virus on her S3 a couple days ago and had to take it in for service

-ios is not as fragmented as android, so most apps will look/perform better on iphone

-resale value of my iphone is awesome, i've always bought a new phone using the money I sold my old iphone for

-ios devices are not loaded with "crapware"

-all my apps are backed up, so I can delete them and reinstall later if I want it on my device again

-this one may not be a big deal to most, but as an "artistic" person (photography/painting/photoshop/etc) I LOVE how beautiful the phone is. It looks amazing, feels amazing. Some people say it's just a phone,
but I love to purchase high quality items for myself that will last. I like I don't have extra slots for memory or a plastic battery cover on the back. Nice simple and clean.

-my text messages not only go to my phone, but to my mac and ipad.

-I love that if my wife takes pics they are automatically shared without her having to do anything, and she gets all my pics, and I love shared photostreams where i can choose who gets to see my pics instead of sending them to facebook for everyone to see

-A feature I use all the time is the ability to view tabs that are open in safari on my other apple devices along with the read it later feature

-I also like to DJ, I don't believe the Djay or traktor app are available on android?

-Although not so prevelent now, but there are tons of 3rd party accessories that come out that have normally been iphone only, and for the most part are normally iphone first

-The display on the iphone5 is more accurate with colors as opposed to the overly saturated s3, important to me with my photography

-it's a great size, perfect for normal phone use and apps. When a large screen is ever needed, that's the ipad. Do I think there is a market for a large screen iphone, ABSOLUTELY, just not for me

-lightning connector, I LOVE this thing...no more fiddling with trying to get the cable in right as it is reversible, and from what I hear also upgradeable

-apple maps (i know i'll get flack for this one) BUT it has worked flawlessly, i've used it in chicago/southern illinois and on a recent roadtrip to houston/austin texas. It was nice just saying "take me to so & so's house" instead of having to actually say the address or type it in

-apple service, you go into an apple store and you are treated like a king, call in and you get the exact same great service. I've had 3 phones replaced due to damage that was my fault. (broken screens, water damage) and replaced without hassle.

-facetime, for me it's AWESOME since I have many friends/family with apple devices, so nice on vacation to let the grandparents talk with their grandson and also chatting with friends/relatives out of state.

-passbook - well....nope, never used it. I feel like it's just like NFC right now. Just not readily available for me to use.

-reminders - i use this A LOT. Remind me to do this or that when I leave a certain location. just awesome

-imovie - just a GREAT little app that is actually easy to use on my iphone. I love making little short movies of my son to share with family/friends

-ibooks - my wife loves this...read a little something on her iphone, then continue reading on the ipad without losing her spot

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

-SMS Backup. My texts got backed up to a folder in Gmail automatically. Sometimes people text me a number or and address I'd forget to put into my contacts. No sweat, because they were backed up.
Never needed this
-Keyboard autofill. Type a few letters and 3 likely word options would appear over the keyboard. Saved a lot of time.
This sounds like a great feature, but I actually just use dictation for a good 80% of my texts and the iphone does an excellent job, much faster than typing
I actually prefer Apple maps over google maps, I believe it looks better and have not had any issues with it for me to need google maps as default[/B]

-More functional notification tray. Included toggles for things like wifi, Bluetooth, etc.
Achieavable with jailbreaking on iphone?
-Overall, more apps (often free) that could replace stock apps (like text, email clients, etc) if you wanted to add features. This requires JBing on an iPhone.
Achieavable with jailbreaking on iphone?
-Pop up video natively (watch a video while checking fb, email, text etc)
Not sure how useful this would be to me, as watching a video and reading email/txt/etc i'm going to have to take my attention off of one or the other
Not terribly useful but still a neat feature. Best use I have found for it is popping a video out while it loads to continue reading something. Say Facebook for instance. With larger real estate on these bigger Samsung phones it makes a lot more sense when you want to multitask anyways. Cannot see it of much use on the small iPhone screens. But the iPad however...
I would agree, I think this would possibly be useful to me on the ipad
-Swipe for screen shots
Push the home button and the on/off button for screenshots on iphone
You can do that, or you can swipe the screen and it takes a screenshot. Its just easier.
I think this is more a matter of preference, with the amount of swiping on screen, and the minimal amount of times I actually do a screenshot, this isn't a major issue

I think when this catches on it will be great, it just isn't there yet (for me anyway
-Live wallpaper

-Change your keyboard if you don't like the default and choose from like a million of em

Well, siri really isn't an app, i just push a button and start talking, VERY easy to use
-MicroSD card slot
icloud and itunes match instead of having to buy extra cards
Free iCloud space is limited to 5 GB and SD cards are really inexpensive. Why not have both like most Android devices do? Well Apple would stand to make less money by offering the choice.
I would just rather not have to buy extra batteries and storage as long as my device can hold a long enough charge and enough storage I don't have to worry about. Realistically, physical storage like this will eventually go the way of floppy discs/cds
-You can use a completely different lock screen
Achieavable with jailbreaking on iphone?
-you can make any browser you like your default
Achieavable with jailbreaking on iphone?
-downloading bluray torrent files with ability to send file to other phones
I don't know of a way to download torrents, but I can easily send files using the BUMP app
Problem with bump is it requires both devices to be connected on the same wifi connection to be fast. If not it goes over the cellular data connection which is spotty and can be slow. WiFi Direct establishes a direct WiFi connection between two devices without a wireless Switch or Router. It is very convient and fast. It is also how NFC based S-Beam transfers data.
Whenever I have used bump, i've normally been on the same network as the other user, verizon 4g connection up here is great so never had any issues
-Use the gs3 as a media hub to browse movies on home network
I am able to do this using apple tv to access all my movies on my macs
Requires an additional $100 dollar device however.
That apple TV also lets me use netflix and hulu, rent movies from itunes, use airplay mirroring
I would really only need more battery power when hiking/camping etc. In those instances i'd rather have the case than a spare battery
If I had an S3 my options would be lessened
-I can get updates. (a jailbroken iPhone cannot without losing its jailbreak and all the things you have mentioned that could have be done by jailbreaking)
This is true
-I can drag and drop movies and music onto my phone.
I can do the same through iTunes
It is far easier to do it with Android devices. When you plug in an android device it opens up on your PC as an external drive where you drag and drop and unplug. With iTunes you have to wrestle with the program to sync and even then aren't you limited to what you can actually sync to an iOS device?
I'm not sure how you mean "Wrestle" with a program, because iTunes works GREAT and is very easy
On most apps the back button is usually in the top right, i much prefer the clean look of the iphone face insted of having those dedicated buttons on the front
-I can use the google ecosystem (IMHO, easier than Apple's)
Apple users can also use the google ecosystem
Does it integrate as nicely as it does in an Android device though?
I'm really not sure as I don't use a lot of google services
-I can use face unlock.
Very cool, one question (Serious) what if someone has a picture of you? Would that unlock it?
You could but you can also have it set to only unlock after a blink.
Cool cool, how long does it take to recognize this and to unlock?

-I can have the front light blink in different colours to different notifications.
I have my iphone led light up for incoming calls/texts although it is NOT customizable
I've seen this in action and it just isn't as good both due to the placement of the flash led and the non customization.
I'd actually love to see this by using the apple logo to light up, like on the imacs
-I can use micro sim cards and use the information on them when there is no wifi or 3g/4G signal (when cloud computing/storage isn't available) and not have any data charges.
I'm a little confused by this statement, how will a micro sim card give you storage? My iphone has 64gb, along with itunes match and icloud, at this point if i had an extra storage slot for memory, i'd never use it
Think he meant MicroSD.
In my case like i've said, i prefer a better looking device than a bump in slower storage
- A File Explorer that combines phone and cloud storages (box, gdrive, db etc) using side-by-side views allowing easy movement of files betw. storages. Ability to use the "Open With..." to open any file using any registered & installed apps.
In my use, I love that I don't have to worry about a file system

- Easily share any files/contents via any registered share providers (BT, Wifi, cloud storages, social networks, usb etc). You can add new share streams easily (by installing apps). No need to wait for OS upgrade like Iphone.
I can easily share files/content with the share button email/facebook/text/twitter/etc
- Ability to download/save any files from any sources (browser, apps etc) into the phone storage. No need to use dropbox like iphone wasting cellular data and battery life or slow response.
I can save photos from browsers, i can also save webpages to read later on any of my idevices

- Files copied to phone storage are accessible by any built-in/3rd party apps. (on iphone for example, you need to reload itunes media files in the phone to dropbox if you want to use 3rd party media players instead of stock iphone player)
I've used other media players but think the built in player is great, I personally don't like using multiple players/browsers/etc I'd much rather have one that does things right for the most part

-Ability to attach multiple files of any types to email (incl. re-edit re-attach). Ability to edit/view any attachments as long as there is a installed app that handles the file type.
This feature isn't anything i've needed to use yet, or plan to at this point

- Multi-clipboard (last 50 clippings + predefined text) to easily enter/paste text anywhere.
Another feature I have never needed

- Easily set custom ringtone. Just copy rintone files to phone via any available means (bt, wifi, cloud etc). It will show up in ringtone selection. No need to go thru tedious steps (like in iOS)
I make all kinds of ringtones, and it isn't tedious at all

- Tap on NFC sticker to automate task (e.g tap NFC sticker in car will auto turn on BT, start music playing, set the phone to "drive" mode and activate turn-by-turn navigation app).
That's pretty cool, but not a dealbreaker for me as I normally just use my phone for the music which only takes a second

- Set phone to only allows calls from "Family" contact group from 12-7am. Plus auto reject any calls that is in the blacklist. You can set-up multiple schedules (unlike iOS "do not disturb")
I have the do not disturb feature which has worked great, although maybe not quite as cuztomizable as android

- If there is a "meeting" entry in calendar, phone auto change to vibrate mode and only allows "family" and "work" contact group calls during the meeting period. (No need to remember to flip the silent switch on/off like in Iphone).
Great feature, although flipping the switch seems much easier to do, but if that feature worked flawlessly without much setup, sounds great

- Phone conversation recording is auto turned on for calls with a certain prefix. Plus you can play a tune or send a pre-defined message to callers if you didnt pick up the phone.
I've never needed to record a phone conversation, I can also send a text to callers when i don't pick up their call

- Background write entries into a (sub) Google calendar for calls/sms activities (like a diary). Very useful if you have multiple cell lines. No need to move log/sms from one phone to another any more.
Would never need this
- Direct dial/sms with picture icon on desktop or in folder for quick one touch operation. Plus ability to create shortcuts to any files/contents for quick one-touch access.
I just say "call my wife" or something of that nature to make calls, works great

- Auto send pre-defined sms/email to contacts birthday / anniversary. Auto backup data. Auto check-in to social networks based on location. Auto background upload of photos to ANY social networks (without needing to open the apps manually).
Birthday - nice feature, but I normally like to send an actual message to my loved ones/friends on those days and not a canned message. Facebook autoloads my photos to FB without me having to do a thing

- Location-based (cell tower/gps) automation. e.g. when picking up someone auto-send a reminder sms when you are near predefined pickup point. Or turn on/off phone settings (BT, wifi, sound etc) when you enter/exit a certain predefined location.
This is a nice feature, but I would think the time needed to setup the auto text would be slower than me just asking siri to send a text when I get to my location, as for the settings, that would be nice, but yet another feature I rarely use

- Ability to use "live" wallpaper to beautify your home scree OR ability to auto-change static wallpaper periodically. Plus use transparent icons without labels on desktop screen. Also use gestures for tasks/app launching (e.g. tap or swipe-up for different operations)
I would not want a "live" wallpaper as I do prefer minimalism, but autochanging wallpaper would be great, and also having icons with no labels, the last party with gestures I don't think i'd use as i'd then have to remember a gesture for different apps

- Use widgets to display self-updating current essential info (tw,fb,g+,IMs,stock, weather etc) on the desktop screens. No need for tedious one-by-one opening of apps to view new information like in Iphone.
This would be great, probably one of the bigger ones for me, hoping this happens soon with Jony Ive at the helm now

- Phone will rotate screen based gyro + face detection (Smart Rotation). Reduces all the unwanted screen rotations.
This sounds like a great feature, but not a problem for me

- Turn the phone over to switch to vibrate mode (or have ring silenced during incoming call). Tilt phone to zoom when in gallery/browser. Plus shake to unlock phone and many others.
The switch is pretty darn easy to use for vibrate mode, tilting the phone to zoom seems counterintuitive to me, shake to unlock takes just as long as a swipe

- Multi-use LED indicator for events (missed call/sms etc). Also can have repeated sound reminders for missed call/sms/calendar/other events.
This is another great feature I hope will be coming to ios soon

- Quickly toogle phone settings from notification area. Easily set alerts to notify of cell duration/data usage.
Great feature, but not a dealbreaker, just takes a tad bit longer to do on iphone, i have an app for cell duration/usage

- True multi-tasking allows for concurrently running "stacked" applications. Use the hard "Back" button to easily navigate back from stacked application windows. (no need to fumble about and wasting time to restart previous app like in Iphone)
Not needed for my uses, and I don't want to have to carry around a larger phone to have to do it(which I still believe is a subpar experience

- Fully working and always-on Skype, G+, voip... etc (receive as well as make calls). Plus Integration to phone contact to easily initiate call/video-call/message directly from phone contact.
Not a dealbreaker as I normally facetime with my friends/family as in my case the majority are apple users

- Soft keyboard with multi-words prediction and easy punctuations (i.e. less typing). Include swype keyboard and T9 keyboard. Also IN-PHONE voice to text module without needing to connect to Internet (jelly bean).
Dictation works great, and i've never been in a situation where I wasn't connected, when using this ability

- Easy unlock lockscreen (swipe in any direction - no need to look for unlock switch). Able to use pattern lock or facial unlock. Lock screen includes 5 shortcuts which activate app directly. Ability to add widgets to lockscreen (4.2 above)
Swipe to unlock is dead easy, and I don't need to look for it, cuz it's always in the same place ;)

- Able to use voice commands to change phone settings + do navigation + etc (which are not available in iPhone)
I can use voice commands for navigation, ex: "Siri take me home"

- Easily connect portable devices (hard disk, usb-hub, keyboards, game controllers, Bluetooth devices) to phone and use them with the USBToGo/usb-host capability.
Never needed this, especially for phone use

- Ability to create unrestricted phone-to-other-devices wireless connection via Wi-Fi Direct and BT.
My bump app has worked just fine for any phone to other device transfers

- Listen to (airwaves) FM Radio.
I hate radio lol

- Much more functional camera/video taking app (panorama, multi-shot, best shot, share shot, buddy shot, smile shot, take photo/video in various resolutions, iso selection etc)
I would have to disagree here, as I am a photographer, I think the iphone has a great camera, and have other photo apps for various applications and we normally get these apps before android users

- Output phone display to external monitor/TV using cheap and non-proprietary HDMI-out cable. Add a Bluetooth mouse and you can replicate what you can do with Airplay/Apple TV (at much cheaper price and certainly more portable)
I would much rather use airplay, it is so dead simple, I love showing videos/pics on my HD TV during a birthday party etc towards the end of the party, family/friends love this

- Use DLNA to stream media to any DLNA-enabled devices without needing expensive add-on equipments (like apple tv).
All my movies are in itunes which makes for a seamless experience via apple tv and easy syncing to my apple devices

All my flicks are in itunes, no need to convert
- Able to play video in popup window (i.e Popup Play). You can continue to watch video while doing other tasks simultaneously.
Not really seeing the point of this, as even on my MAC/PC when watching a video, that is what I do, not watch a video and do something else, so this has no benefit for me

- Able to expand phone storage to max 96 Gb. Potential can have unlimited in-phone storage by attaching a portable drive using the USBToGo capability.
With 64GB on my phone and 5GBicloud and itunes match, i still have a ton of storage to spare, glad I don't need to buy memory cards which also have slower transfer speeds than built in storage

- Better productivity with much faster scrolling capability than iphone. see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EH1GDLunomY
With ios leading in the enterprise I would doubt this claim, "faster scrolling", i've never had issues scrolling

- Removable battery for extended use without needing to carry heavy/bulky external battery packs. Replaceable/removable back cover so you can enjoy and use phone without casing if you want to (without worrying of expensive scratch repairs).
Those heavy/bulky battery packs just make the phone the size of a large screened android device, but again, I've always had plenty of juice, and would prefer a battery case when needed (hiking/camping,etc) instead of another accessory to worry about losing

- Able to set a reading font size in browser. When zoomed in, text always appear at this specified font size. Text is also reflow to fit the screen for easy reading without side-scrolling.
I have never needed this

- Legacy Flash plugin support to view flash sites (incl. browser embedded you-tube)
I hope flash would just go away, along with java :)

- Able to press the home-button to answer call or power button to end call. Plus set speed dial numbers on the Phone dialpad. And predictive contact search via dialpad.
I think this could be good and bad, lots of accidental pickups

- GOOGLE NOW

- Able to SEAMLESSLY replace any stock apps with 3rd party apps to upgrade or improve functionalities. Also, app automatically scale up to match screen size (unlike Iphone 5 which runs older app with letterbox strips)
I am happy with the stock apps I use most, this would most affect me with the camera app, as there are other apps I would like to use at times and would like to change from the stock app

- Better overall and more functional Google-based services/apps. Ability to search for and install apps using PC browsers. Ability to "side-load" apps without going through online app store. Refund period for app purchase. Many different online app stores. Ability to backup your phone to microSD card.
I really only use gmail as one of my email addresses but not many other google services, refund on apps would be nice, but I don't know of any I have actually paid for that i've wanted to return and many have lite versions to try out first. I can backup my iphone to icloud

- Multiple accounts per phone. Selectively sync from them. e.g. Add multiple google accounts to phone and you can selectively choose what ("contact", "calendar", "application" etc) to sync from the different accounts to phone.
I have no need for this

- Much larger physical screen.
That is what my ipad is for ;) I like many would much rather have a smaller phone with the ability to use with one hand, which i do a lot

To be fair, most of the reasons you've listed for getting an iphone, you can easily do on Android. Taking your top 3 for example

iTunes Match - Google Music (25000 songs for free)
Find My Mobile - Find My Phone and 100's of other similar apps
Siri - Google Now

Personally its seems you wasnt that interested in Android and wanted to go with the iphone all along - Thats why I cant be bothered to answer every point.

I dont have the time to go over all that but here is just a few quick things I saw.

you can find a android phone just as easy as an iphone

you don't need to buy more hardware to hook up to your tv to use streaming

there is icloud services for android and I have 50GB with mine

and last but not least the gs3 runs a native stock 720P resolution like most high def movies so you don't have to convert them to the iphone res and they don't get cropped up while doing it and the gs4 will make it just as easy to watch bluray as its going to use 1080P instead of some weird res the iphones use.The gs3 natively plays todays most popular codecs and you don't have to convert the videos in iTunes and then blast them to your phone threw a cable, you can just natively play the videos on the gs3

If you jailbreak your iPhone is the warranty valid?

I'm really not sure, as none of the abilities that jailbreaking would allow, are enough reason for me to want to jailbreak.

As far as the plastic/polycarbonate debate....c'mon...calling it polycarbonate doesn't change the fact it's plastic :)

From wiki:

Polycarbonates received their name because they are polymers containing carbonate groups (–O–(C=O)–O–). Most polycarbonates of commercial interest are derived from rigid monomers. A balance of useful features including temperature resistance, impact resistance and optical properties position polycarbonates between commodity plastics and engineering plastics.

plastic was brought up when the guy above said he would get a note 2 over the gs3 because of the cheap plastic and in another thread he said he had both phones and the gs3 got all scratched up and the note 2 was way better when they are BOTH made from the same exact plastic.

I dont have the time to go over all that but here is just a few quick things I saw.

you can find a android phone just as easy as an iphone
not in my case
you don't need to buy more hardware to hook up to your tv to use streaming
i bought the extra hardware not only for streaming of my devices, but hulu/netflix/movie rentals it's just an added benefit it streams so easily
there is icloud services for android and I have 50GB with mine
I'm assuming you need more space with android because your music takes up that space also? Itunes match does not
and last but not least the gs3 runs a native stock 720P resolution like most high def movies so you don't have to convert them to the iphone res and they don't get cropped up while doing it and the gs4 will make it just as easy to watch bluray as its going to use 1080P instead of some weird res the iphones use.The gs3 natively plays todays most popular codecs and you don't have to convert the videos in iTunes and then blast them to your phone threw a cable, you can just natively play the videos on the gs3
I really couldn't see myself watching 1080p movies on my iphone, I think anything under the size of an ipad mini would just be a subpar movie viewing experience

This cracked me up.

When it is pointed out that there are amazing keyboards available for android the response is, "why should I have to download another keyboard?"

But when the camera in the iPhone is shown to be rather basic compared to the competition it is instead, "I can just download another photo app." Freaking hysterical! :D

Galaxy S3 Polycarbonate = Plastic
iPhone Aluminum = Tin Can

I really couldn't see myself watching 1080p movies on my iphone, I think anything under the size of an ipad mini would just be a subpar movie viewing experience

----------

Noted :)

that's not the point, the point is you can natively play the movie on the gs3 and output that to a 1080p TV and not lose any res from converting it in iTunes.I like how you say you cant see yourself watching HD movies when people like you brag about the retina macbooks and if it was the other way around and apple had the 1080p screen you would be saying that apple is better because its true HD.

You cant play both side bro and just admit 1080p is better than 960 of what ever that weird res apple is using to keep all there apps to scale better is using.

Running an iPhone 5 and a nexus 4 side by side, i cannot imagine why one is better over the other.

What i do find is, i slightly prefer android over iOS on my smartphone. But when it comes to day to day usage, i cannot see anything where iPhone destroys nexus or where nexus destroys iPhone.

These endless matches will go on forever with people saying x is better, but in reality it is not.

Only thing is i wish the iPhone allowed easier downloads of files and ability to share more seamlessly without jailbreaking, and the android devices had the same battery stamina and background audio support as the iPhone. Things i can trade off most of the times.

I am sure the above paragraph will again be dissected by the fanboys from both sides, but the bottom line is, does your self esteem get lowered if someone isn't using the phone you do?

Everyone say the nexus is the greatest and you are an idiot for choosing a non-nexus over it, but i now prefer an S3 over my nexus 4 actually. Why? My own feelings about what i should use. So the internet may think whatever, they are not the ones using the phone, I am.

Do you guys repeatedly get into discussions about my girlfriend vs. yours, my house over yours, my car vs. yours, my grave vs. yours...

Another thing is you cannot mention something you would want in one product and not be flamed endlessly by the defending fanboys of either side. Because somehow that hurt them.

you can find a android phone just as easy as an iphone
not in my case

That dosent make sense. The Android apps offer more functionality then the iphone ones. Just look at the features!

you don't need to buy more hardware to hook up to your tv to use streaming
i bought the extra hardware not only for streaming of my devices, but hulu/netflix/movie rentals it's just an added benefit it streams so easily
You can stream from an Android device without needing to buy accessories.

there is icloud services for android and I have 50GB with mine
I'm assuming you need more space with android because your music takes up that space also? Itunes match does not

Nope, Ive got 50GB dropbox account. All my music is stored on Google Music, which allows you to store 25,000 music tracks for free.[/QUOTE]

and last but not least the gs3 runs a native stock 720P resolution like most high def movies so you don't have to convert them to the iphone res and they don't get cropped up while doing it and the gs4 will make it just as easy to watch bluray as its going to use 1080P instead of some weird res the iphones use.The gs3 natively plays todays most popular codecs and you don't have to convert the videos in iTunes and then blast them to your phone threw a cable, you can just natively play the videos on the gs3
I really couldn't see myself watching 1080p movies on my iphone, I think anything under the size of an ipad mini would just be a subpar movie viewing experience
Its an option though, something ios users dont seem to like.

This thread is going fine and we don't have the crazy fan boys from both camps killing it except the few that said the gs3 lags lol but there is a good thread discussion going on with constructive criticism from both phones.

Yeah you have a great nexus and its well known that the battery life is not that great on it.I get a full day with my gs3 and Im a power user and with my coworkers note 2 he gets almost 2 full days and he has the screen brightness maxed out all the time.

I also uploaded a crap load of music to my google acc and I still have about 40GB on my drop box lol
