This thread is going fine and we don't have the crazy fan boys from both camps killing it except the few that said the gs3 lags lol but there is a good thread discussion going on with constructive criticism from both phones.

Yeah you have a great nexus

Actually, i had a great GS3. I don't know why got the nexus. I hate it.

Now trying to trade it in for a GS3.

Yup.

you might aswell just wait for the gs4 now

I don't have a hardware upgrade available, I live in Canada so our carriers are actually worse than yours in that department. Also that thing will be out in April at the earliest and sell for $700 on kijiji (our equivalent of craigslist).

I think a $400 32Gb S3 is a far better deal for me.

This cracked me up.

When it is pointed out that there are amazing keyboards available for android the response is, "why should I have to download another keyboard?"

But when the camera in the iPhone is shown to be rather basic compared to the competition it is instead, "I can just download another photo app." Freaking hysterical! :D

Michael

How is this hysterical in my case? I have noted I rarely type as I use SIRI/dictation instead. Photography on the other hand is much different. Even if I had the S3 camera which you believe is better, I know I would still download more photo apps.

Hysterical is picking and choosing your responses without reading the full context.

Galaxy S3 Polycarbonate = Plastic
iPhone Aluminum = Tin Can

Image

Whereas plastic=polycarbonate, Tin does not = aluminium

Tin is a chemical element with symbol Sn (for Latin: stannum) and atomic number 50. It is a main group metal in group 14 of the periodic table. Tin shows chemical similarity to both neighboring group-14 elements, germanium and lead and has two possible oxidation states, +2 and the slightly more stable +4. Tin is the 49th most abundant element and has, with 10 stable isotopes, the largest number of stable isotopes in the periodic table. Tin is obtained chiefly from the mineral cassiterite, where it occurs as tin dioxide, SnO2.
This silvery, malleable post-transition metal is not easily oxidized in air and is used to coat other metals to prevent corrosion. The first alloy, used in large scale since 3000 BC, was bronze, an alloy of tin and copper. After 600 BC pure metallic tin was produced. Pewter, which is an alloy of 85–90% tin with the remainder commonly consisting of copper, antimony and lead, was used for flatware from the Bronze Age until the 20th century. In modern times tin is used in many alloys, most notably tin/lead soft solders, typically containing 60% or more of tin. Another large application for tin is corrosion-resistant tin plating of steel. Because of its low toxicity, tin-plated metal is also used for food packaging, giving the name to tin cans, which are made mostly of steel.

that's not the point, the point is you can natively play the movie on the gs3 and output that to a 1080p TV and not lose any res from converting it in iTunes.I like how you say you cant see yourself watching HD movies when people like you brag about the retina macbooks and if it was the other way around and apple had the 1080p screen you would be saying that apple is better because its true HD.

You cant play both side bro and just admit 1080p is better than 960 of what ever that weird res apple is using to keep all there apps to scale better is using.

People like me brag about retina macbooks? I don't have a retina macbook. I'm not talking about the quality anyway, i'm talking about screen size.

Please follow along with what i'm saying before jumping to conclusions "bro" ;)

Wow, thanks for the science lesson! :p

However, in the UK and probably many other countries including America, tin cans are made from aluminum, they just keep the name of old.

So aluminum iPhone = Fizzy drink can

That dosent make sense. The Android apps offer more functionality then the iphone ones. Just look at the features!

You can stream from an Android device without needing to buy accessories.

Nope, Ive got 50GB dropbox account. All my music is stored on Google Music, which allows you to store 25,000 music tracks for free.

Its an option though, something ios users dont seem to like.[/QUOTE]

Not sure what you are talking about in your first point.

I'm pretty sure the S3 will not stream to any of the flat screens at my work location, i'm assuming they have to be a very new set? So you would have to buy new hardware if you don't have a newer TV?

50GB dropbox account could also be used by an ios user correct?

ios users don't like options? We actually can watch movies on our phones, and it's ok just like it would be on any small screen, the gs3 YES has a larger screen, but it's not like it's making a huge difference....i'd much rather watch movies on a larger device, not my phone....(but like i've said over and over in this post, these are my personal preferences) :)

you sing the same tune my friend, someone brings up a valid point that 1080p is better and you turn and say well I don't need it on my small screen anyway.

its ok its in your nature to try and support your side of the camp but don't tell us that its not relevant when one phone can do one thing and the other cant and then say well I don't watch movies on my phone anyway and then talk about streaming movies to you tv with your friends using apple tv.

so if you buy a movie in the apple store is it in its native res or downscaled to fit your phone?and when you stream that to apple tv is it not in a worse res than the original movie was recorded in?

I was commenting about the person who said why should they have to download another keyboard when your answer to the camera issue was to download another camera app. It struck me as funny.

Once again, you are not following along with what i'm saying, i don't care if it's 720p or 1080p, if it's on a small screen i'm not going to be watching movies on it. I prefer watching a movie on a larger screen, and normally on my flat panel.

What i'm trying to say, which for some reason the few of you continue to ignore and spin in your own way is that my phone is used for short video clips, i'm not watching movies on them. Could I? yes of course, but i'll save them for my ipad or TV.

Sorry about that, I thought that was towards me. Was a bit confused :)

Sorry, which first point didnt you understand?

As far as im aware, ios can only stream to an Apple TV? My S3 can stream to any dlna device.

You was talking about iCloud - Ive got 50GB with Dropbox and also 10GB with GoogleDrive all free. Dont you only get 5GB free with iCloud?

I didnt say ios users dont like to watch movies on their phones, I said ios users such as yourself dont seem to like options. If Android does something you wont use or dont like, you complain about it. If you dont want it, dont use it! Thats the fun of options!

I think it's finally sunk it....You really can't say one phone is better than the other. One phone seems to be preferred by those that don't want to fiddle to a large extent with their phones. They also want a great looking phone.

Others want to have a phone that is highly customizable with a larger screen and varied options of phones.

To one camp their phone is the best for their needs and vice versa.

Other owned devices also come into play, as well as what other friends/family are using.

So I guess, my conclusion is, I still love my iphone. And there is nothing that would want me to sway to android......YET :)

I would buy a GS3 for things like; nfc, bigger display, higher res, "faster cpu", however, no applications use the full res of the display due to the fragmentation of the OS, and nobody uses nfc (breaks my heart, it would be so awesome). However I like my iPhone, as it is fast, light, good battery life, great reception, awesome display, and is a part of the vast apple ecosystem.
Also, it has a custom OS, then connects to my desktop PC, which is also paired with is beautiful OS (OSX) which no other manufacturers use. ;)

It just works. :)

First of all the note 2 and the gs3 are both made from polycarbonate and the international gs3 has the same exact freaking hardware as the note 2.

Don't come in here saying ******** about how the gs3 lags without one link to proof to back up your BS claims,do you own both phones?do you own a gs3?did you know the stock usa gs3 has a better gpu then the note 2 and its snapdragon cpus are based off ARMS A15 cpus and there 2 cpus basically match the older a9 cores used in the older exynos soc.

The stock snapdragon gs3 will blow the living doors of of any cell that uses the same hardware and is a far distant more smoother than any other cell Iv used and can back it up with benchmarks.the moto droid M has the same exact hardware as the gs3 and it lags like hell and the gs3 scores an almost 1000 points higher in quadrant,do you know why it does?

have you ever heard of cyanogen mod?He is one of the best android developers and Samsung hired him to work as the main software engineer to build the stock roms for the g3s and the note 2s

That is why the gs3 runs so damn smooth compared to others and the browser tweaks it has is even faster than the google chrome browser that is shipping with the new nexus now.

Did you ever think for a second that the gs3 you used had a crap load of 3rd party apps running that hog the living hell out of the cpus and spam the cell to hell?

that's another point to where Samsung is for open source, they saw how well cyanogen is with his asop roms and hired him to work for them, thats like apple going to the group that jailbroke the iphone and asking them to help make ios 7

Check my swappa account. I sold both and was happy to get money before the prices dropped like crazy. The dual core processor in the S3 is a joke. It lags and even with the new JB 4.2 videos recently posted online, you'll see the lag.

Ok, so I re-read that. I had thought you were referring to finding an android device to borrow a phone cable (lots of points i've been replying to)

So I checked the link, but this is an app you have to download and pay for. This is included with iproducts, so i'm assuming you have to buy this app (at least once or multiple times for each device?) I'm sure there are a large portion of users who don't know of this app or what if the device was stolen before you ever loaded the app?

To your options comment:
It's the same thing with android users....facetime was a "gimmick" but now they have similar options so it is no longer a gimmick.

4g was a huge deal even though it wasn't available in many areas. And the iphone didn't have it.

Siri was made fun of and now you have S-voice.....

goes both ways :)

By the way, here's my response to the tin can picture

The fisher price polycarbonate phone :p

lol, I hope this doesn't bring out the trolls......just respond with a pic please lol

That was one example of an app. Theres plenty of other free ones available. Its also built into Samsung devices - www.SamsungDive.com
Theres also apps which allow the app to be installed AFTER your phone has been lost of stolen!

Forget S-voice, thats a load of old rubbish - Have you seen how good Google Now is? Puts Siri to shame!

Does Dropbox back up your app settings and data? Nope.
The whole point of iCloud is I can lose my iPhone and find it using Find My iPhone (which Android doesn't have) OR just get a new one and have every single thing be the same.

Android is painful in that if your device is gone, you are SOL. You have to manually do every single setting and every single widget on the home screen all over again. Waste of an hour.

No they are not. My S3 got replaced a month ago 3 times by Verizon and each time the settings were all different. I had to go back in and enable most of the Motion settings and adjust the email settings.

On iOS I didn't even have to enter my email info except my password. The accounts and the IMAP/Exchange configurations were all there once I restored on a previous back up.

Sorry to burst your iPhone bubble but you can backup all your settings to your Google account. And if you're rooted you can use Titanium backup and sync it with Dropbox.

There are non root back up options too. If you want to make a mirror imagine of the phone.

iCloud is an inaccessible abyss of data. The only thing it backs up for me are my photos. And I still had to pay the 20 a year for an extra 10 gig.

To be fair, most of the reasons you've listed for getting an iphone, you can easily do on Android. Taking your top 3 for example

iTunes Match - Google Music (25000 songs for free)
Find My Mobile - Find My Phone and 100's of other similar apps
Siri - Google Now

Personally its seems you wasnt that interested in Android and wanted to go with the iphone all along - Thats why I cant be bothered to answer every point.
For me the biggest reason I have come back to an IPhone 4 times after trying Android is I can walk into an Apple store anywhere with a problem with software or hardware and walk out with it fixed. No store nearby or closed, the phone support i have received at Midnight on cranky new Mac Pro saved a project. That applies to every Apple device I own, Try that (I have) with any Android/Blackberry/Windows phone on a US carrier. Apple's customer service tilts the scales, if that changes that will be the death of Apple.

Fair play, thats what obviously suits you.

I have cover on my Galaxy phone, so if it goes wrong I can have a replacement handset delivered to me the next day, but then im in the UK.

So I just watched a few videos comparing Siri and Google Now. The only thing I could say Google now was better at was that it comes back slightly faster with it's responses. (Much faster in some cases)

The thing I didn't like most about google now is that it mostly just gives you a google search result for it's answers.

Can google now recognize if i say "take me home" or "call my sister" instead of saying take me to "physical address" or "call jane doe"?

In no way did I see anything Google now did that would even come close to putting siri to shame...

Siri especially seems to be better in ways you would normally use voice control: Sports scores, dining, navigation, opening apps, movie times/buying tickets, updating facebook/twitter status

How have you got that please Dave, I would look at doing the same.

Does Google music upgrade your low quality music to a higher quality?

I would have to download that app for all my devices

I was not impressed with google now, although slower in some cases, siri seems to give a more detailed answer and seems to be more tightly integrated with the phone ex: buying movie tickets, opening apps, reserving tables at restaurants. Not a majority of google search results....
