I just got a phone call from apple asking me to confirm my order. That was so weird... I dont normally answer random numbers but I did and she said she was from Apple asking me to confirm my order and read me back the details, minus my order number directly to me. I said yeah I can confirm that and she said congratulations on ordering it because she wasn't able to get one yet and wasn't sure if she even wanted to upgrade because she has the 6S already....

Weird right? Anyone else get a confirming phone call?

She said now it change from Processing to preparing to ship.

That's really strange. Never heard of Apple doing that.

Are you me?

Stayed up 'til midnight PDT? Check. Refreshing an iPhone, iPad, and Mac? Check. Got a 10/4-10/10 ship date? CHECK!

While I'm not as annoyed as I thought I'd be, I'm still hoping the shipping window gets bumped.

Lol! So very frustrating! I've never had this happen. And to have the ship dates the same now at nearly 10am the same they were last night, that's lame! What a bummer....

It makes sense. Put in an order for the same phone at 3:08 am and it was scheduled for October 4th-10th.
In 4 minutes.orders that were ordered within the first half hour or hour usually come release day. Hell friend ordered the rose gold last year in morning and got it release day. I just wonder do we
Know why Apple scatters the dates and then moves them all up.

this was said earlier but in case you didn't see it..

Every year there's supply that is stored at US locations until pretty much the night before. These will stay "processing" until right before.

The people seeing preparing for shipping, are orders coming from China so they obviously need to ship sooner.

Last year I bought 2, 1 came from China, 1 from Kentucky I think. Both deliveried same time.

Point is if it says the 16th, it'll be the 16th

Lot 23E. Somewhere in Georgia.
So I have a 9/27 to 9/29 delivery date. If my order hasn't moved from "Processing" to preparing to ship by Wednesday, is it safe to assume I'm not getting it on launch day?

I'm thinking I'll cancel the order and take my chances in store on 9/16.

Pre-ordered the iPhone 7 256 GB in matte black for AT&T through the iPhone Upgrade Program the second the store went live on the Apple Store app. Checked out in about five minutes as I was not previously enrolled in the program. Says "Delivers 9/16 by Standard Shipping."

Hesitated on the Apple Watch Series 2 Space Gray 42mm with the black sport band as I wasn't sure I really wanted to upgrade from the previous gen. Not even 10 minutes later the shipping date was already pushed back to 9/26, but I still ordered it through Apple. Pre-ordered it on Best Buy the next morning with a 9/16 delivery date. Gonna cancel the Apple order as soon as the Best Buy order ships...

Me either, but I googled the number and apparently they have done it before. I wonder why...my order still hasn't changed from processing to preparing for shipment yet but I still see a delivery date for the 16th.

Ordered 7+ Jet Black 256GB from Verizon website at around 3:10 am ET. Delivery date to North Carolina is 9/28. That's good enough for me.

The 128GB models were showing a 10/4 delivery date at that point.

It's better to promise something far away and then surprise the customer with a sooner date rather than promise a sooner date and then fail to deliver due to supply constraint. I assume this is why Apple does this. And they don't always do it.

Jet Black was the new, hot color this year. It went super fast. Especially since there are only two storage models. I suspect that if there were a 32 GB option, more folks would have been able to get it for launch day delivery.

Wait, mine says "Ships in 6-8 business days" but then gives me a delivery estimate of the 27th-29th, which is 10-12 business days away. That doesn't make a ton of sense.

Edit - Located in Memphis, TN.

Time to get to you, ships but then it will take about four days to get to you.

I don't mean to suggest you're gullible or stupid but you didn't give her any billing info or details did you? I don't see Apple calling to confirm an order. That's what email and the app/website are for. I mean, can you imagine how long it would take to follow up on every order made in the last eight hours?

The att site came on for me at 1:54am. My daughter was able to order a rose gold 7+ 158gb with no issues for delivery date on sept 16. At the same time, I was trying to order the jet black but it gave a ship date of last week of September. The apple app didn't work for me until about 2:15 and it kept giving me errors. When I deleted my configuration for the silver 256gb it still had a ship date of sept. 16. By the time I was finally able to complete the ship date said sept. 27-29. So disappointed.
I think most people who ordered the 7+ jet black got those ship dates. Those dates are actually on the good side of things vs October and November.

For those who have pre-ordered in the past with a ship/arrival date AFTER launch day....does it ever come sooner is it pretty much always the timeframe they give you?
My only experience was ordering through AT&T and I ordered in the first ten minutes for the 6 Plus and got it a week after launch date. It was a hellish experience too. For AT&T, they don't have your phone shipped direct from China. They order the phones, they are delivered to their processing facility in Kentucky, and then they start opening boxes. The model you ordered is then matched up to paper work and boxed/shipped. You didn't get a tracking number until 2 days before it shipped. It's why I order direct from Apple now. Much better information from the very beginning.

I ordered a 256gb Jet black 7plus at about 2:07AM throough Apple and have a delivery date for Sept 26-Oct 3rd.
I just sat on the phone for an hour and a half while also trying to get through to chat to change my delivery address. I don't know why AT&T makes it ship to the billing address. Anyway, finally got through on chat and he fixed it for me. He said I will probably get it sooner than the shipping dates mentioned.
Sept 26 is fine for me. I used to HAVE to get it on launch day - but last year I didn't even upgrade! I'm mellowing out in my old age :p

I feel like I got screwed, I chose "buy new on existing line" when I went to pre-order and I got a splash page telling me the carrier system couldn't be reached and I had a reserved phone to complete my order. I vaguely remember this happening to people in year's past and them getting really poor shipping times. I thought about it for a bit then went back and chose "replace this iPhone" instead and was able to pre-order, however by this time my ship date was in to October, and of course when I got the email this morning about my reserved phone it told me you can't have more than one order per number or something. Not sure what was riskier, waiting and completing the order the next day w/ a reservation, or just dealing w/ October shipping.

Don't know if it's ok to post this here but I saw this image on another website from a reader that had noticed this. So sweet how the colors match.

I had a terrible time on AT&T because it wouldn't let me just buy the phone unlocked it kept trying to add a data plan. By the time I got my order into Apple website, it was about 12:28am and my 7+ black 128gb won't ship now until Oct 4-10. I'm hoping it'll move up like previous years. Crossing my fingers :D

Oh no, absolutely not. It was really strange, she didn't ask me anything other than to just confirm I ordered a black iPhone 7 plus 128gb...and that was basically it. I should have asked more questions. I did call the number back as well and it is an official apple phone number. Just struck me as odd.

I got on the store at 8:01am, confirmation email 8:03am.
7+ 128GB Black
Dispatched 6-8 business days
27th-29th Shipping

What gives? No stock at all?
Has anyones changed from this? I know it's normal practice for Apple to under-promise and over-deliver...

Hope it changes .....

I ordered mine this morning around 9:20am CDT and my shipping delivery says estimated for October 4-10th. Same phone, 7+ 128 Black (matte)

I hope so! My phone is estimated for Oct. 4-10th and it was just moved into "processing"!
