I thought the rep told me that the S meant JOD, but maybe it's just for any trade-in order. I wouldn't worry about it. I think it's just a way for them to tell certain ones from others.
If it makes you feel better, my wife's is an S order and it's out for delivery now

Mine also starts with an S. Ordered at 3:44am but it was botched and made a new order at 10-ish (ET). Shipping range 9/27 - 10/10 (new EIP). No updates.

You're also failing to factor time zone differences.

Times that I stated were EST. 3PM EST is 12pm PST.

Did you do an online reservation, choose sprint, then just pay outright?

I'm looking to go down this path as well. I refuse to give TMobile any fee/tax associated with an upgrade at this point.

Yep. Used the Apple App, it defaulted to $41/month....told Apple employee wanted to pay outright and unlock. She said no problem and 10 mins later I was back on the subway back to work.

The good thing is I'll get to use for 14 days as I travel, and maybe jump back to the Tmo when I get home if it had the audacity to arrive.

Guys, if you don't care about the free iPhone deal and just want to get an iPhone, Apple Store looks like the best option. Today's availability looks fantastic. Those 6 planes yesterday did the trick, apparently!

can you jump on demand in Apple Store?

Damage control? What? People are getting their phones in their ship date window. I see no problem with what Tmobile is doing. They can't control what Apple gives them. Christ. People are entitled!

True as long as they get them in the delivery window quoted. I'm dubious of getting my JB+ in my 9/19 to 9/26 window. But still hopeful. Still waiting on the charge!

Nope. I'm told don't turn on until you pop out Sprint and pop in TMO. Probably overkill...who knows
