Anodized material doesn't rub off easily unless it's being rubbed off with something stronger such as grit. Pockets are known to have grit in them for some reason.

Ideally, you'll want to seek the opinions of owners who don't use a case with theirs and ask to see their phone backs. Provided I'm correct in my assessment, there shouldn't be any textural changes to the phone's back where skin meets metal.
On my god is not a widespread !! Here in Brazil all the iPhones mateblack with this problem mine too I'm so sad I buyed it just 3 weeks ago and is the same same similar issue !! Identic showed here

So I went to Verizon today and they confirmed that the finish was starting to wear and acknowledge the speckles across my phone. He suggested that I contact Apple Customer service though because they would just send me a refurbished iPhone. So I called Apple back and long story short I sent it to UPS and within an hour I got my case number with them identifying the problem as
"Problem Description: Physical Damage - Enclosure - discoloration" The rep. said that he hasn't heard of people having this problem and that I was the first to report this to him. I'll inform you guys if they send me a new iPhone or not.
And your problem ? Was it solved?

Oh god all iPhones in Brazil is showing this flaw!!! And mine too! I bought an iPhone matteblack a week ago and in the same day it's started to happen I called apple and their answer is a kind of cosmetic flaw and the garantie doesn't cover that omg what can I do now??

View attachment 672825 View attachment 672826 So i've had my 7 since launch day. I noticed while cleaning it today that there are several flecks on the anodized backing where it looks like the finish is flaking. See what you guys think

My wife's iPhone 7 in black 256gb is doing the same thing (around $1k for that phone). It's always been in a case as well. I won't touch colors, mine is the silver (iPhone 7 Plus 128GB silver) and it has no visible issues (Well, scratches on the antenna bands; they scratch very easy, were that way out of the box). After owning the HTC one M8, I refuse to get anodized aluminum. My HTC had a space gray like finish to it, flaked like your iPhone (the finish) and it was never carried anywhere without being in a case.

I wouldn't really call it flake as it is a sandblasted finish. I have had these tiny marks on my iPhone 7. These devices are grit/sand blasted to give that matte finishing and if you look under a microscope it wouldnt be as smooth as it looks with the naked eye. So a tiny spec of dust that constantly rubs in one spot will just flatten the texture making it look like it's flaking especially on darker colors.

I had to bring this thread back to surface after noticing these spots all over the back of the device. Its been 2.5months since I bought the iPhone 7 and has always been either in a Dbrand skin or Apple leather case. I always make sure it's clean before putting in the case, so what gives? Thinking about giving Apple support a call. Are you guys noticing this issue still?

Edit: I've got an iPhone 7 matte black and those spots looks exactly like the one OP had posted.

Apple isnt doing anything for this - they consider this as cosmetic only.
