Wait for the 7 to be out and compare it to your needs. Going to android is not always easy for Apple users even if you think the device is better. Moving away from the Eco system is a hard for many. Adjusting for some people isn't easy.

See I've been with Samsung since the Galaxy S1 and this year I'm making the switch to iPhone 7 Plus. I would say get the Note 7 and enjoy it. Android has come a long way.

Here's a thought, let's maybe wait until we actually see the iPhone 7 and its features before we decide. Call me crazy, but that's what I'm doing.

Man you do know this is the internet right? We judge on rumors not facts! No place for common sense and logic!

Honestly the note 7 looks awesome, I'm sure I it will be awesome too. I would get one but I've been trying to stick to one new phone a year since we had a kid and I know I'll want the new iPhone too.

Honestly I don't think you could go wrong with either.

The Note 7 looks really good however, I will be getting the iPhone 7 due to 3 reasons:

1. Carrier crapware that can't be uninstalled. Back when I had a Note 4, was so pissed that the AT$T homepage favorite could not be removed. Plus AT$T locks the ROM, so its a pain to root.
2. AT$T is notorious for charing over retail for Samsung flag ship devices. (I have a BOD plan, so full price for me)
3. Samsung is so slow to bring Android updates to their phone is comical. With Apple, you don't feel left out unless you have a really old device.

Noticing a trend? I wish Google had the same agreement with the carriers as Apple, hands off the device!

I'm probably sticking with iPhone 7 for few reasons

1. Eco system is easier I think for me
2. Apple support and AppleCare plus (I can go
to a store if my phone and breaks and get it replaced)
3. No bloat ware from carriers.

But who knows I could switch to the Note 7 but i will wait to see what the iPhone 7 has to offer which I'm not expecting much.

1. Some of the carrier crap can be uninstalled/disabled, depending on the carrier..
2. They are not charging over retail this time.
3. Samsung is pretty quick now, but the carrier at times. Security updates and etc have been rolling out rather quickly on T-mobile and Verizon. I don't know about the other carrier, and AT&T in general is poor.

Just keep in mind this: If your Samsung device gets the new Android 3 months after the public release, and then gets the new android a year later; it might be delayed compared to a Nexus device, but it is still getting a yearly release...just like an Apple product.

I have preordered the note 7, this will be my first non iOS smart phone. I always buy the non "s" iPhone and pass my old phone down to my son, so he is getting my 6+. I went with the Note because it still has a headphone jack ( a few other reasons too but that is the big one for me)

I'm curious how will you adapt to no iMessage, FaceTime, and movies/apps you bought? I'm curious because I'm nervous to make the jump :p

I'm planning to buy note 7 when it's up for pre order here but iMessage and notifications on iPhone is making me think more about it.

I want to run with one phone so it's one of the other

I'm still nervous switching because I've been with iPhone since 3G days and it's hard to leave because I'm so comfortable with iOS but I can't give Apple free passes when it comes to slacking with upgrades. I'm so confused.

I agree with @The Game 161 comment that it isn't easy for Apple users to adapt to Android if they are dependent on the Apple Ecosystem.

Times have changed for me so it was a little easier to adapt. iMessage was great when it was first introduced because we paid for texting for most plans at the time. Most current plans include unlimited texting now. For international people that text me use Whatsapp or Hangouts.

I rarely facetime... and if I do... it's with my wife or kids. They all have gmail... so we use hangouts for facetime if we really need to video chat... or they can facetime me on my 6+.

Since we have been cable cutters for about 8+ years, all we do is stream... so we haven't bought any movies in a long time. Mainly stream music and videos (Kodi, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime) now. If we do purchase movies, it's through amazon prime since it can be accessed on any platform. I don't buy music anymore since streaming is available now... and most carriers allow you to stream without it counting against your data. Downloading music and movies is just wasted storage space for me now.

Most of the apps that are useful to me are a free downloads for both platforms. I don't game on my mobile devices... I have my gaming rig (in sig), ps4, xbox one for gaming.

It's possible to adapt if you break away from the Apple Ecosystem... even just a little. There are other ways to sync contacts, pics, documents to both platforms. I don't use iCloud, I go with a 3rd party 1TB cloud that syncs pics and documents... and use Google Contacts to sync my contacts to both devices. I didn't totally break away from Apple, I still use Apple music on my S7 Edge. :)

Again... if you depend on the Apple Ecosystem, I would just stick with iOS. Nothing wrong with that. I like both platforms... both are not perfect... but both does what I need it to do. Plus... I want to just enjoy new tech... no matter what platform it's on. ;)

I'm the same with you but I need to ask. Have you considered the new Nexus phone that will be out this year? It's not for me Ill be getting the 7 but just a thought.

Those are great questions but I am not sure my answers will really help most people.
  • iMessage - All I really do is text, to I do not see how that will change when I just use whatever native app for texting is on the Note.
  • FaceTime - Have only used this a few times so I am sure that Skype will work just as well.
  • Apps - Over the years the apps I have bought vs what I really use has changed. I will just have to buy the android version for anything that I really need. TBH I do not see that being more than may $20 worth of apps.
  • Movies- Other than the iPhone itself this is by far the biggest investment I have in the apple ecosystem (right now I have over 170 movies). I never was one to watch movies on my phone, so my AppleTv will still work for watching movies. If I do decide to watch any of the movies on my Note7 there are ways to get those movies onto an SD card if needed.

What is so good about FaceTime? I'm not asking to be rude :) But for me it works so-so more often than not, with delay on voice calls, broken connection on video chat, etc., both on wifi and cell data. I've consistently had way better results with Skype. I use a 6+ and 2015 MBP.

iMessage has always also been so-so for me. Incoming messages seem to pop up on the Mac whenever they feel like it, not seldom with a delay of several days. Sometimes messages are simply lost. It's been very unreliable in general, so personally I have no problem with switching to SMS/MMS alongside FB Messenger/WhatsApp etc., now that I go over to Android with the Note 7.

Its a phone you touch stuff on the screen if one phone works with your other stuff better than the other phone you buy that. These are not agonising decisions they're phones.

I have been waiting for this thread to pop up. I'm definitely debating heavily between the two right now. #2 above is a HUGE plus that many don't take into account. If my note 7 breaks what do I do?? Send it off to Samsung? Then I'm without a phone and that's not gonna fly. If my iPhone breaks I can go to several different Apple stores in my area and walk out with a shiny new iPhone. It's a beautiful thing.

That being said. There's no denying the hardware advantages the note has. I honestly don't even feel like listing them it's so many. Android and iOS both have their strengths and weaknesses and I like things from both. I'm so torn.

#2 is definitely a significant factor, and one that makes me shudder as I get closer and closer to preordering a Note 7.

But this time around I'm not going to overheat my brain too much with endless comparison lists (like I've done every time I've switched from one side to the other...ad nauseam, really...:p). With the hardware design and some of the features of the Note 7, Samsung has managed to produce a phone that I just WANT. It's hot and I just want it, with a brainless, animal passion. So I'm gonna go ahead and just take the risk. If it doesn't pan out, oh well, then in a few months I'll sell it and get back on the iPhone train, and consider the loss of a few hundred bucks worth it for the ride.

But yeah, at this point, the iPhone has just lost it's sexy. It's reliable and the general quality of apps is superb, I like the AW - and yes, Apple customer service is second to none - but currently iPhone is just boring to me.

We're at a point where the iPhone is nothing more than a #5 starter pitcher in baseball being paid #1 starter money while providing very little value and added performance. Single core benchmarks, whoopee! iMessage and FaceTime offer value. But the specs are trash for the price you pay. Not even the Note 7 provides value, but compared to the iPhone 7, it's a world beater. Look at how good Windows phones and Android phones are with value? You're paying for the Apple logo and customer service. Their service is great, but you can get by with Google's direct support for the Nexus line though.

I already pre-ordered the Note 7. So, now, I'm at that stage where it remains to be decided whether to keep the iPhone 6S+ or jump on the iPhone 7.

I can't just stick to one ecosystem!
