I'm not ready to line up the latest iPhone vs Android argument because neither phone worth buying has been released.

The only real Android phone with timely updates is the Nexus. No Nexus, no Android. As far as iPhone, I have no idea how appealing the next model will be.

I have been waiting for this thread to pop up. I'm definitely debating heavily between the two right now. #2 above is a HUGE plus that many don't take into account. If my note 7 breaks what do I do?? Send it off to Samsung? Then I'm without a phone and that's not gonna fly. If my iPhone breaks I can go to several different Apple stores in my area and walk out with a shiny new iPhone. It's a beautiful thing.

That being said. There's no denying the hardware advantages the note has. I honestly don't even feel like listing them it's so many. Android and iOS both have their strengths and weaknesses and I like things from both. I'm so torn.

You're absolutely right about Apple care, it's so nice to just walk in store and have a phone serviced and/or replaced. I'd also venture to say that if you are in the US the carriers take care of you nicely if you are under warranty. I've had numerous non Apple phone replaced by my carrier with very little fuss. I do agree though that Apple is a cut above the rest. Samsung are morons IMO for not revamping their Samsung centers at best buy to provide warranty service.

I'm honestly a bit surprised Samsung haven't opened full retail stores, not just glorified kiosks in Best Buys. They have a far more extensive product line--smartphones, tablets, computers, cameras, TVs and monitors, smart home and IOT, appliances and tons of ancillary items like memory/storage. Just focus on electronics and it's a more robust store than what Apple offers. Do it right and Samsung is truly a full fledged competitor to Apple with a full customer service experience. This is the one thing Samsung should copy from Apple.

also, the samsung warranty doesnt cover accidental or wear and tear damage like the applecare does!

ughh ive been with apple since my first phone and now the iphone 7 is just disappointing. Especially when the rivals are really stepping up their game :/.

What about the Note 7 is "stepping up their game"? Same processor, same battery, tweaked (better) design, same camera.....

I don't get it. What do you want your phone to do? Figure that out, figure out how you want to do it and pick the phone that best fits those needs. Simple.

But at least wait until the phone actually exists before deciding....
[doublepost=1471069378][/doublepost]
We're at a point where the iPhone is nothing more than a #5 starter pitcher in baseball being paid #1 starter money while providing very little value and added performance. Single core benchmarks, whoopee! iMessage and FaceTime offer value. But the specs are trash for the price you pay. Not even the Note 7 provides value, but compared to the iPhone 7, it's a world beater. Look at how good Windows phones and Android phones are with value? You're paying for the Apple logo and customer service. Their service is great, but you can get by with Google's direct support for the Nexus line though.

If you buy based on a spec sheet you miss the point.....

Spec sheets don't tell hardly any of the story. I've got a One Plus 3 with 6GB RAM. It's a great phone, but has issues with memory management. Software issue.

Point being, specs can be overkill. They can be misused. The best phone is the one hat takes optimal specs for all things performance and efficiency and melds those specs perfectly with software to make a seamless device. The iPhone does that for me. On top of it, the Apple ecosystem provides a MASSIVE value.

base 64gb, waterproof instead of "resistant", a decent stylus, iris scanner, OLED curved display, HDR ready, expandable storage, can use the VR headset (nothing similar for the iPhone), and a free Gear fit2 bundled!

Here's a thought, let's maybe wait until we actually see the iPhone 7 and its features before we decide. Call me crazy, but that's what I'm doing.

Exactly. These rumors mean nothing until confirmation from Apple. It astonishes how many Forum members are so angry because of articles posted by Macrumors. Its like when someone posts an article saying the world is going to end and everyone loses their minds, then they find out it was nothing after all, and the world goes back to 'Normal'. Unreal.

To be fair though, past history suggests that the rumours are probably accurate, but nothing is absolutely certain until it comes from Apple.

What we know about the next iPhone is likely true like it was with the note 7. If there are no duel speakers then people will really come down hard on Apple but I don't think that's the case.

The biggest example of stepping up their game is the screen to body ratio. if the iPhone 7 comes out with the same ratio as the 6 then its already antiquated, but then the 6 was already antiquated when it was released. You're right about ecosystem, apples ecosystem is a huge detriment for me, but others find it useful.

This thread is a bit inane though, why would you try to decide this before the ip7 is released?

Every time a new Samsung phone is released I convince myself that it has so many features that are better than iphone and just buy it (and sell it within 3 months usually for a $250 loss) Here are a few things I dislike and like about Samsung phones:

Bad
1. Touchwiz sucks. Its been getting better and better in the last 2 years but it still sucks.
2. S7 edge is the best Samsung I have used so far. I really got it for all the freebies (BOGO, free Gear VR, $50 Costco Credit, free Extended Battery Pack, 1 Yr Netflix Sub free). But even the S7 edge started lagging after 1.5 months of usage.
3. JMHO. Pictures taken on the iphone look natural & better compared to Samsung which are mostly oversaturated. Samsung does have a great camera but in my opinion its not better than the iphone. Pictures of faces and people in general look like crap on Samsung.
4. I've been with android for a long time but appstore has more useful and better looking (UX/UI) apps than google play. Most of the awesome apps usually come to iOS first
5. Carrier Bloatware is annoying

Good
1. Samsung pay rocks
2. Waterproof
3. Expandable memory is such a convenience
4. Beautiful big display with no ugly bezels
5. You could use launchers to customize the phone to your heart's content

* My work phone is an iphone 6 and my current personal phone is a Nexus 5X rocking Android Nougat beta with a Nexus launcher.

No, specs aren't everything in my decision making. Which is why I don't have a phone with a QHD display. It's just that the specs are including key hardware #s and real world usage limitations: 640p displays (iPhone SE), iPhone 6/6S with 750p displays, 12 MP cameras that aren't top notch, batteries that aren't long lasting, measurements that are being blown away by competitors that feature smaller sizes yet bigger battery capacities, a non-flush camera, no VR, no quick charge, no wireless charging.

Apple doesn't offer much. Their "ecosystem" isn't like the Amazon rainforest. It's no longer leaps and bounds better. I bought into it with the iPad, iPhone, and MBP. Didn't offer me enough to stay put.

If value is being determined objectively, the iPhone cannot do much these days. The system exclusives aren't earth shattering. I like iOS 10's features without trying the beta yet, but let's be real, it's not enough to get a redundant iPhone 7/6SE model for $850. What can your phone do that is worth the extra $450 over a OP3 or ZTE Axon? The only somewhat respectably priced iPhone is the SE, yet it's $500 for a 64GB model. Both phones make the same calls, can send the same SMS messages (green ones in this case for those iOS users), take photos at 4K, provide the same social media apps, etc. I will not pay full price for the iPhone 7 or the iPhone 8 unless Apple provides a better product that makes the $ worthwhile. Which is why a lot of folks are dumping the iPhone in the US. It's rightfully so.

Hard to say until the iPhone 7 is actually released. I think it'll be a fine update if the rumors prove true. Apple devices are always fine. That's sort of what we've come to expect from them now; just fine.

To answer the question, though, unless Apple surprises us this fall, the note 7 looks to be simply the bigger and better update, and a better phone overall pushing more novel technology and software features.

If you're looking at the devices themselves (and not sales and profits), it's hard to deny Samsung is the one pushing the technology more than Apple. It used to be the latter and we had no problem at the time saying the iPhone was the best or the one to recommend. Just to use one example (of many): having the best camera and screen used to mean something for Apple and the iPhone. It should for anyone else, too. And if Apple should retake the crown in this particular example, excellent; it'll spur more competition. The cycle continues.

The note 7 is a beast of a technology both in hardware and software. I can't confidently say that the iPhone 7 will do better in either category overall. Not this year.

Wishlist
1. Samsung Galaxy Note7
2. LG V20 (for the 4000 mAh removable battery)
3. Samsung Galaxy S7 edge
4. Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro
5. Apple iPhone 7

Need to see V20 and iPhone 7 to be announced officially to really decide. But it doesn't look like I can keep my promise getting an iPhone 7. Note7 is basically an S7 edge with a stylus, iris scanner, and USB Type C. The default 64gb base model is important to me though.

Samsung Protection Plus exists for accidental coverage. Most OEMs try to offer something of the sorts to make $ while using a 3rd party to control the process ala Assurant and Squaretrade.

Can't seem to find it in Canada?

Forgot to mention Note7 has Gorilla Glass 5 while S7 edge is still on GG4. Nougat is coming within 2-3 months.

Note7 is the one to beat but if you hate Android, stick to iPhone 7. I love Android and I doubt the HTC Nexus beats the Note series. Nexus never did except in software. Samsung smokes all Nexus device in hardware.

I like the platinum silver on S7 edge but too flashy and in certain lighting, the shoddy gold and silver can look the same. I want black onyx. It will show fingerprints but since it uses OLED, I want the background to be dark for a floating effect.

samsung-galaxy-note7-1.jpg

I will get sick of the silver or gold Note7 after awhile like I did with the iPhone 5 and 5s. I prefer to view my videos in a dark front panel and the have colors pop out a little more.

Apple will make a Samsung phone anyway. It will be called the iPhone 8 and be released next year. Experience Samsung now one full year before Apple copies them.

64gb + 200gb micro-sd. Time to go all-in now and not proceed half-*** with a 32gb or 128gb iPhone 7 which has only 750p or 1080p. QHD seems minimum for VR. Going over 200gb could be sufficient to most people for the next five years or longer....

Strange, well then, possibly Wind/Telus/Rogers/Bell/Fido/etc have insurance plans to add that are much more reliable?

How much of a huge deal is GG4 vs GG5 in real world usage though? Especially if you use a screen protector and case?

wow the current poll is at 12 to 30 i can't believe what i am seeing espcially because this is a apple favored site. i would have never thought a non-apple phone would ever have a chance in a poll. but so far it looks like a landslide.

I was able to play with the Note 7 briefly at Best Buy earlier and it is definitely nice. If there's a phone that will get me back to android this will be the one. I have a 6S+ and I'm weighing out what features from both phones I really like and of course I'll have to see what the iPhone 7 has to offer before making a decision.

Another incentive to get Note7...

samsung-gear-vr.jpg

^ New and improved. Uses the new standard Type-C.

I think VR seems gimmicky BUT it has potential to view my movies and stream Netflix. I hope Gear VR gets bundled for free with a Note7 for a limited time offer. Apple still has nothing for VR. Stick to iPhone if you plan to be stuck in the past with hardware although software support is longer. Get Note7 if you have any foresight with hardware like VR and expandable storage since smartphones are generally media consumption devices anyway. Storage always run out. Think far ahead.

In regards to the Apple service comments, I've had nothing but terrible experiences regarding Apples instore customer service; with one apple store refusing to see me without an appointment purely because I had bought my phone from Apple's online, rather than the a physical apple store.
