Hey guys, so i just read this article that was published today where ifixit is tearing down the new iPhone 7 Plus and one thing caught my attention, when they get to disassemble the dual camera array they say the following:

The moment we've all been waiting for: The 7 Plus camera array!

Apple's got us seeing double with two separate sensors, two lenses, and two sets of optical image stabilizers.

The two 12 MP cameras—one wide-angle (just like in base iPhone 7), the second a telephoto—allow for optical zoom.

The upgraded cameras almost make it worth the bigger exterior camera bump. The bump is now built into the chassis, another suspected waterproofing/dust-fighting tactic.

Now, could this be a typo by the person that wrote the article, but it does seem like the Dual Lens Camera in the iPhone 7 Plus has Optical Image Stabilization both in the Main Wide angle lens as well as in the Telephoto lens

Have they done a teardown of both the 7 and 7 Plus? How do camera lens / sensor sizes compare between the two? I recall a thread here the other day where people were all up in arms because someone mentioned that the 7 has a larger camera lens or sensor (whichever allows more light in) than the 7 Plus.

IFixit is doing a tear down. Sensor size looks the same for both. Oddly they're stating OIS for telephoto too...hard to tell, are they just seeing the stabilizers?

Some users get their iPhones in th e next few weeks and they can give us more information if both cameras are OIS or not.

Don't have to wait for those users.

iFixit and TechInsights are both doing teardowns / have done teardowns. They can tell us for sure.

i already posted that in the second page of this thread last night when ifixit announced their finidings live, it appears that both lenses on the iphone 7 plus camera have OIS

Are we reading the same thing? I just read through the ifixit teardown and both the teardown comments and the user comments suggest that only one of the cameras is OIS, the 56mm does not.

I am for one very disappointed here because Apple could have easily given us that feature in the about to be released iPhone 7 Plus next week yet it seems like they decided to not give the Telephoto Lens in the iPhone 7 Plus's Dual Camera OIS on purpose so that they have something to upgrade in the next iPhone's camera

Thoughts?
This is so far beyond nonsense, it defies description.

Can you provide a link please?

This is typical of any electronics manufacturer - artificially withholding features so they can be touted as 'incremental' upgrades the next year. I remember the iPad 1 teardown clearly showed a spot on the PCB for a front-facing camera module.

Just discovered today (after receiving my iPhone 7+), that Optical Image Stabilization is ONLY on the standard lens. The zoom/telephone lens doesn't have any stabilization! When zooming in, shake is more apparent, surely they would put OIS on that lens as a priority??

This has been posted weeks ago when I made a post about this before the iPhone 7 plus even came out when KGI analyst made the news public, no one believed the KGI analyst but now that the iPhone 7 plus is out its clearly visible, no OIS on the telephoto lens and it's a shame really

I'm sure that will be a "feature" next year on the iPhone 8

Genuinely hard to believe this - even assuming they could only possibly put it on one lens, it absolutely should be on the telephoto where any shake is going to be magnified.

Quite dissapointed with the very limited application of this twin lens system, it really doesn't seem to achieve a great deal. I was expecting some clever doubling up of sensors to minimise noise etc and, nope, it's just a wide lens and a telephoto and a bit of software blur to pretend the sensor's bigger. Pretty pathetic really.

Hopefully they can keep taking advantage of the dual cameras with software because they are more of a gimmicky feature at this point.

Gimmicky? Have you seen any of the results with the new camera? The new Bokeh feature is a Plus. But the photos have been astounding from what I have seen.

Already spotted it when playing around with demo phone.
Quite a shame and now dual lense is near worthless despite that shiny interesting portrait mode.
Also don't think 2x optical zoom works great Plus it has outdoor limitation.

For the average user, it is a gimmick...reason why the iPhone 7 plus cameras have been beaten by several other phones in terms of photo quality .......

It's a phone camera. What you expect it to do??? Camera phone... phone with a camera. You know it's not going to be a real camera like a dlsr.

Buy a real camera if this isn't enough.

Your sadly mistaken. There are several professional photographers on this forum who use their 6s Plus/7 Plus for some of their photography and their photo's are stellar. @citysnaps being one of them. I consider myself an average user and your anecdotal statement means nothing terms on how they can capture rich and dynamic images.

I'm not staying there isn't competition who can compete or produce better results than the 7 Plus, but don't come here and post "For the average user, it's a gimmick." The majority of iPhone users are not professional and use our iPhone Camera's for everyday photo's.
