The phone could possibly be brighter but the screen a little warmer, so the whites don't look as bright? The screen is deffo bright, but whites not as white so making it look darker?? If that makes sense
Could be possible

It is possible, that the max brightness on "auto" is higher, than the brightness with the slider.
Samsung does this too. Not sure what the reason behind this is. But could be tested in direct sunlight.
Maybe they don't want the Screen to be constantly at max brightness for some reason.

Displaymate always checks for that too. Afaik it never happened on an iPhone yet. But they did not test the 7 yet.

I think I read somewhere that there was a feature for the iPhone 7 which would set a limit for the screens brightness indoors (even though it shows as full brightness in settings) but it would automatically know when its outside and get even brighter. Maybe try comparing the iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s outdoors and see if the iPhone 7 is brighter?

You know what, the screen is perfect, just forget about it, if I never read this post I would have never thought twice about it not being bright enough, I'm in a darkish room now and the screen is actually hurting my eyes a bit.... I used to be really OCD with apple products years ago when I came on here... now for some reason, I don't even check my phone for dead pixels, dunno what I was thinking (if you read back some of my posts). Just enjoy the phone, it's brilliant, and if an issue ever arises, you can just take it back...

Call it placebo but it seems that my screen has gotten a little bit brighter in the last few hours. It is not brighter than my 6S though.

That's mad as anything that, I just noticed that my screen is much more whiter than when first used it, and came in here to post
[doublepost=1474054504][/doublepost]It's deffo not warm (yellowish) anymore

How long did it take? Also, were the conditions different? That is, outside vs. inside.

Just posted this in another thread:

Just chatted with Apple online and there was no confirmation that they are aware of this issue -- though, because they didn't confirm or deny it, doesn't mean anything. I was told that diagnostics checked out and that it is more than likely a software issue and to reset the settings for the phone on iTunes because any other way of resetting is not going to solve the issue.

I am not sure if I am going to reset the settings for the phone using iTunes until the iCloud restoring is complete. I have also compared it to my iPhone 6 and while it is noticeable that the screen is warmer, it isn't brighter. In fact, I would say that at times, the brightness is the same, with the exception being the warmer colors on the ip7.

No, conditions the same, just noticed that the whites are whiter, I don't have my 6s to compare with but the screen is very bright.... it's not an issue for me, everything is perfect

Dude. This isn't a matter of opinions. There IS a problem with brightness.

Just tried, volume down and sleep

Mine was volume up and the power button. Brightness now good

Edit: OK now is little bit yellow-ish. I'm now comparing it to my iPad Pro and is definitely a warmer yellowish tone.

Well it was not an issue for me, I was happy with the brightness level when I first got the 7 but after I compared it to the 6s I was not thrilled.

I does look more brighter now BUT until I see it side by side with the 6s again I will not know for sure considering it initially looked good to me.

My reduce white point was turned on and set to 25%. Seems to have a bigger impact on the 7 vs the 6s. I turned it off and even before that the screen did seem to be getting brighter. Maybe there is a burn in period or something. I have only had the 7 on for about an hour as it is doing the iCloud backup restore....seems much better now. The colors are warmer vs the 6+.....I am not sure I am seeing the 25% brighter screen yet....will give it more time and wait until the restore is complete.

Then it was never warm to begin with... iPhone screens dont change magically from yellow to white. The whole glue thing is a myth

I don't know about glue.... but my screen was definitely dim/yellow when I first started the setup (with brightness set to max). It is now much brighter.

I noticed this issue straight away, thinking I might go to Apple Store next week about it, I hate it. It's literally half as bright as the 6.

I "zoomed" my display, and presto, Brightness! I have had the phone on for about two hours also. Whew! It's a pain having to go through all these adjustments to get the new phone going after a restore from a backup. Even if it's just once a year. Surely it can be easier...

Another observation: It seems that the screen went back to "dull". But once the apps stopped re-loading, it's back to "bright".
