Trying to decide which to get. I’ve had many iphones which I currently have a 7 plus. But I also had almost every Note phone and really ready to get another Note because of all the features, screen and stuff it gets you. I also like iMessage and using it with my iPad where I don;’t have to pull my phone out. But that isn’t a huge deal. Just trying to decide what to do as today is the unveiling of the Note 8.

Stay with iPhone. Samsung is going to be premium with the Note 8 anyways, so you might as well get the best bang for your buck. iPhone will have much more value for you because of iMessage and being able to use your same apps from the 7 plus, meaning the ecosystem continues to provide benefits.

With the S8/S8+, you have trouble getting screen protectors. You will also see aggressive price drops in a few months, so buying the Note 8 early will hurt a bit. The Note 8 could feature similar Samsung lag because its software is notorious for it. Their customer service is subpar. I don't expect the battery life to be good either.

Apple will close the hardware gap with the 8 since it will have an OLED screen, Face ID, small bezels, quick charging, wireless charging, a higher screen resolution, better water resistance. That's in addition to dual stereo speakers, the best processor on the market's successor (A11), clean software, tremendous longevity with app updates and software updates, top tier customer service, plenty of accessories, and iOS 11 narrowing the gap between itself and Android.

Why not keep the iPhone 7 plus and get the note 8. Best of both worlds.

I wouldn't say the iPhone 8 will be the best bang for your buck.

Considering they mentioned iMessage with an iPad and the Note 8 expected to be around $850-900 and the iPhone around $900-$1000, I would say you can get better value if you're a current iPhone user. Keeping apps, using similar features, getting top tier support, and having a reliable device that just works makes it more valuable long term as a smartphone investment. Since there are two options here, I say the iPhone 8 is the best of the two for a bang for a buck. If you take into consideration all phones on the market, the Moto G or Moto E4 are best bangs for your bucks.

I could do that since my IP7 plus is paid off. Hmmm

believe me, after watching the presentation of the Note 8 (and the price tag of 1000 EU/USD!!) this afternoon, I am almost sure the base model iPhone 8 will start at 1099 EUR/USD .

So keep that in mind as well

Agreed. I would do the monthly payments on it with the carrier or Samsung. So the price tag doesn’t bother me as much.

I can't believe you guys still think there's a huge difference between any of these devices anymore. It just comes down to which platform you prefer.

Well, platform is the deciding factor. But judging from the leaks on the upcoming iPhone 8... there will be 2 huge differences.

One will be the screen size between the Note 8 and iPhone 8. With the Note 8 being 6.3 and iPhone 8 being 5-5.8... I’m sure some will view having that larger screen is a huge benefit.

Two will be the S-Pen, which Samsung will market heavily the features of the S-Pen. With a bigger phone along with the S-Pen... IMO are huge differences.

But I do agree that the platform/ecosystem is what it all boils down to. As for me, I’m just concerned with how much this iPhone 8 will cost now that the price tag of the Note 8 is $930.

Other than potentially similar high prices, I don’t really see these two phones as direct competitors. The size difference alone is quite dramatic—can’t see someone who’s attracted to the size of the iPhone also seriously considering the new Note. It’s an efficient use of size for that large display but it’s still pretty damn big—especially the height. And the S-Pen is a differentiating feature. If it was just about having the extra size, the S+ is already available for significantly less $ and the V30 will offer a more comparable size experience.

The regular Galaxy S and iPhone are more likely vying for the same customer.

I like the iPhone, but I am just so tired of the interface never changing. It's stable, and it works, but I am bored to hell with it. I loved my Note 7, and I have had many Notes and loved them all. So I am a fan of this Note. Much bigger screen, and many more features over the iPhone, that I am willing to make the move. I will either keep the IP7+ for a spare or pass it on to a family member, or sell it. But I refuse to trade it into Samsung for that $425 deal. I am going with the BB deal unless AT&T tonight shows a better one or Samsung. That $425 deal is less than what my phone is worth. No thanks!

Screen size, I guess. But the SPen ties directly into Android for me.

Pricing on the iPhone 8 will probably exceed the Note8. Sounds like it's going to be constrained at launch due to hard to get components. That usually equals $$$

Honestly, it is worth waiting until the iPhone 8 announcement before making your decision. Better yet, it is worth waiting until you try the iPhone 8 and Note 8 in person before making a decision. The iPhone 8 hasn't been officially announced, and therefore we aren't yet aware of any of the features that escaped the rumor mill, nor do we know for certain the price. I feel that when you're dealing with $1000+ USD, you'd better be darn sure you're weighing your options as best you can.

I can't believe you guys still think there's a huge difference between any of these devices anymore. It just comes down to which platform you prefer.

Also true.

Earlier this summer, I was actually more excited for WWDC than the iPhone 8 announcement. My qualms with the iPhone have to do with the OS, not just the hardware. After seeing no major changes to iOS 11 announced at WWDC that would benefit ME, I have had only moderate enthusiasm about the phone that will be running it -- the iPhone 8. I can't help but feel that the great hardware in the upcoming iPhone is held back by a stagnant OS.

And don't get me wrong -- iOS is great. And I believe that some of the AR Kit stuff is going to be huge. But after using Android for months now, I'm able to see more clearly the advantages the Android offers over iOS. Of course, it's good to add the disclaimer: YMMV; different strokes for different folks.

Not a bad price at all. What phone did you trade in?

IPhone 7 Plus. But Any phone on their list from iPhone 5, to S4, to G4, Note 5, etc. I could sell it, but this saves me the trouble and I get one unlocked.

Couldn't you get more for the iPhone 7 Plus if you sold it yourself? Also, did they take off the $420 right away or is it after they receive your trade-in phone?

Right away instant rebate. I could if I wanted to deal with that but I rather not plus I get an unlocked one from Samsung instead of a carrier one.

If I won the lotto I'd had both and a One Plus 5.

I think even the carriers would offer somewhat close to that amount. I did a quick check and Tmobile is offering $335 for a 32gb 7 plus, so it's not that far off. Could most likely get much more than that on swappa or craigslist.

Nope. Price tag will be around $950 usd if bought at a carrier like T-Mobile. Verizon may charge $999. But you won't see the iPhone 8 break $1000 for the base model 64gb version. Just won't happen.

Which is exactly why a Samsung flagships will always be one of my main devices. Cause it's loaded with extras, in a market that the main differences between flagships are small. Nobody is going to loss choosing the Note 8, iPhone 8, V30, Pixel 2 XL, U11, Essential phone, or even the Z2 Force.
