Nope. Price tag will be around $950 usd if bought at a carrier like T-Mobile. Verizon may charge $999. But you won't see the iPhone 8 break $1000 for the base model 64gb version. Just won't happen.

I am talking buyin outright, I did not mention anything about carriers in my post. I bet here in Europe its the price I mentioned in my post.
There is no way the base model iPhone 8 will be lower then 999 euro/USD --buying outright--

The more I read about rumors, the more excited I am about the ip8s facial recognition. I think after a week with the Note 8's horribly placed FP sensor I'd end up smashing it against a wall. I know the Note 8 has facial recognition as well, but the rumors persist that Apple has leapfrogged everyone.

I'm heavily invested in the iOS/Mac ecosystem and because I love my Apple Watch and AirPods so much, I don't think I could switch, but if it weren't for those, I'd give the Note8 a healthy bit of consideration. Frankly, the new iPhone 8 concept just doesn't do it for me (just still a concept at this point but seeing a lot of leaks gives me reason to believe it's possible that this could be the actual design.)

The top-notch doesn't bug me... I actually don't mind it... but it's that terrible camera bump on the back and the bezels around the screen that ruin it for me now that other phones like the S8 and Note8 have been realized.

If I can hang on to my 6S a bit longer, I will... but if I had to upgrade, I'd go w/ the 7S+ at this point unless Apple pulls a rabbit out of the hat and actually releases some hardware that astounds... or devs start pushing AR apps pretty heavily, I feel like I could make do w/ the 7S+ for another couple of years at which by then, AR features will be more robustly incorporated by devs and full screen phones will be the norm. Really the only reason I feel the need to upgrade my 6S is battery and I would like the new camera features on the 7plus, which I'm sure will only improve on the newer phones.

I'm excited about this, too. Face unlock on the S8 is fast and reliable. If Apple can get it even better, great! Even if I may not be ready to return to iOS, this will make other OEMs step up their game, too.

I don't mind the location but the sad fact for me is the sensor on my S8+ doesn't always work anymore. It worked perfectly for a long while and then just stopped working reliably. I use it but often have to resort to my passcode now. I've tried registering my print several times to make multiple profiles. I've tried rebooting. It just won't work as well as it once did.

I would like to give iphone 8 a try. I have plans to preorder it but whether or not I go through with it depends on the keynote.

I think we are getting ready to make the switch. We moved to iPhone 4 from Blackberry and have been completely Apple-centric ever since but I am ready to try something different and it seems like Samsung offers more cutting-edge features at a better price-point. All that has been holding me back for the past 2 years is iMessage, device integration, quick & easy updates, and customer service via Apple Store. But I really want to try out the S-Pen and I am underwhelmed by iPhone 8's leaked specs. Not to mention the projected price structure. We can afford but why?

I have convinced my husband to make the switch with me. Just waiting for a discount on the unlocked version. My husband is still rocking a 6 Plus; it is really slow at this point and has an inferior camera. He needs a new phone yesterday. I could stick with my 6s Plus but why not try the Note 8? Worse case scenario is we return within 14 days and go back to old iPhones which we will keep rather than trade or sell. 2nd worst case: we enjoy Note 8 for a year and come back to iPhone next year when they issue a more compelling alternative. Or maybe we decide to make a complete switch to Windows/Android for all our devices. In the meantime I am switching everything over to Google services for continuity.

Just waiting for a good deal on the unlocked Note 8 from Best Buy or elsewhere. Do not want to deal with carrier bloat even for a discount or quicker updates. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

One question: what is Samsung's answer to Apple Care Plus for Samsung phones? I always spring for this as it has saved my neck on several occasions.

I think there is an equivalent to Apple care plus, I remember it being mentioned around the time the S8+ launched. I didn't pay too much attention to it because it wasn't available in the UK. Perhaps someone form the US can help here.

And your sentiments about the iPhone 8 are mine exactly. It's not that I can't afford it, it's just that based on the leaked specs I don't think it warrants the price tag particularly when you can get the same technology elsewhere, for cheaper.

I have pre-ordered the note 8 but due to my heavy integration into the Apple ecosystem I'm going to keep my iPhone 7 plus too.

The Note 8 definitely looks like the best Android phone out there right now, at least until Google releases their next Pixel.

Even with Samsung's history of bloatware, slow updates, and phones slowing with time, I'd still consider getting the Note 8 just because of how amazing it looks... or I would, if I weren't so deep into Apple's ecosystem. :p

A little off topic, but as a reminder that Samsung isn't the only high end Android manufacturer, LG is coming out with a V30 in September which will have awesome audio/visual capabilities and is supposed to run in the upper $700 price range for starters. I've had the V20 for the last 9 months and am quite pleased with it (maybe the last high end phone with a removable battery). My 6S+ is certainly adequate for Apple integration needs, so I use it for everyday messaging/phone services, and use the V20 primarily for audio/visual tasks. Anyway:

Not to forget the pixel 2. I'm employing the same strategy as you. Keeping my 7 plus for everyday tasks and continued integration into the Apple ecosystem and the note 8 as my true pocket pc.

I can barely fit my 7plus into my pocket, how do you carry 2 huge phones like that? I do like the strategy and wouldn't mind something like an iPhone SE in the front pocket and a Mate 10 stuck in my back pocket. Ahhhhh foldable displays, when will you get here ?!!?!?

As of now.

I decided to go ahead and cancel the Note 8. I'm too heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem to even entertain the idea of moving from Apple. And rumors speculating a $999 price tag.. I should go ahead prepare myself for it. The Note 8 is a hellauva phone... it's a beast.

At this day in age... we as consumers win, there's so much to choose from.. there's the iPhone, LG V30, Note 8, Pixel 2... even the Essential phone. Can't really go wrong with either one.. well, perhaps the Essential phone

Have you seen the existing concepts and prototypes made to date? I love the concept in principle but I don’t see how they’re going to be executed well. They are all plastic displays that deform and end up with creases where the display folds. I don’t see how this can be executed with the same quality of materials and fit and finish we get now with our existing glass/metal builds.

Totally agree but I'd still take one over today's solution of a phone and a tablet.

It’s hard to take your “just won’t happen” opinion seriously when you say stuff as incorrect as “Verizon/any carrier may charge more”. With iPhones, all carriers are MSRP, always have been.

Samsung calls it Premium care. It is $11.99 a month, so not the cheapest out there (compared to square trade), but from what I understand its pretty top notch. They said in the keynote, for the note 8, that they will send reps to your house if you have a problem.

I got 2 months free with my order.

Seema expensive compared to Apple Care Plus which is $99 (I think) for 2 years extended coverage. Apple Care Plus is expensive too IMO but it has saved my skin more than once.

Does if cover loss and theft? Pretty cool that they would send techs out to your house as part of the cover as some don't live close by to a store to take it in.

It's ok. Think what you want. I happen to work for T-Mobile. It's not like we subsidize phones and price them differently than other carriers, like Verizon. /s
Take a look at the Note 8 price tag at T-Mo, then look at the price at Verizon.
