Well you can have your opinion, I'll got with the CEO of a Carphone Warehouse though.

Cool, let's check back here after sales reports are out and see who was right. :D Lol, I'm only having fun, but honestly I do believe Apple will once again break records. I'm not sure why some see the ip8 as not a big deal, but many of us iPhone users have been foaming at the mouth to get some of these changes and to us they are HUGE.

Yeah but Samsung is the king of inflating their sales numbers with the ridiculous amount of BOGOs, free accessories, and straight up discounts. Well I shouldn't say inflating as they are true sales, but I'd think that Apple must enjoy that profit margin a lot more as it's fairly rare to see an iPhone discount, free accessories or BOGO for a brand new release.
Shame Samsung don't do the same deals in the UK though.

Yes but which iPhone records? It may be a big deal but the average Jo I don't believe will flock to it due to the cost.
If Apple hide the iPhone sales amongst others, like the Watch for some reason, then we'll know haha.

Well I think it will be very hard to gauge because the iPhone 8 will most likely be severely constrained at release. So I understand your point, we really don't have any metrics from the past to judge if records are broken, basically there are no records to be broken for the ip8. I think the 7s and 7s+, or 8/8+, whatever they call them, will definitely break records. We don't even know what upgrades they will have, Apple always has several surprises which managed to not be leaked. The ip8 will be sold out in minutes, but only time will tell if it will be a big seller. Personally I think it will be a big seller, but we really won't know until next year when they release a plus model and have sales figures to go off of, and also have their manufacturing in place as that's a big reason they have a constrained supply.

I think most will be able to absorb the cost on contract.

You lot go and ask everyone you know, will they spend £1000 or $1000 and up on an iPhone, or if they are prepared to spend £60 plus a month for 24 months plus a charge up front from £50 and up... for an iPhone I don't know what the charges will be in dollars..

I think you'll get an awful lot of responses of No! The iPhone 7S will sell as always, once the initial rush for the 8 has finished, I bet it'll nose dive due to price. Their are far far far too many alternatives that are very good and half the cost on the market.

you really think the iPhone 8 won't sell? Regardless if you like the phone or not, most would agree it will sell well, probably more than in previous years with the exception of the 6/6 plus. The issue will be supply and can Apple make enough for the people who want it. And there'll be plenty I think.

And I've asked plenty of people I know. They want it.

And that very same CEO, in the same article you linked to, expects sales to improve with the iPhone 8:

And the iPhone 7 may not have sold as well for Carphone Warehouse, but is sure did well for Apple, exceeding expectations and IIRC, sales from the 6S generation.

So the source of his argument says the iPhone 8 will likely improve sales for his company. So how is this supporting a notion that the 8 won't sell again?

The source is saying that the iPhone 8 will sell more than the iPhone 7 but not as much as the iPhone 6. They are expecting sales to be similar to those of the 6S.

I do not agree however. I think the 8 will sell well. Break sales records. I will not be buying it though.

Have you seen the cost of the Note 8 on O2? £63 a month for 2 years and £50 I think it was phone cost...

I think most will not care as they are not paying the price up front. Yes the cost of the note with a decent amount of data for me was £71 a month. This was my absolute limit. The iPhone 8 will cost even more than this. However I think some will just absorb the price as it's not upfront.

I really do not know anyone who would be prepared to pay over 60 quid a month for 2 years for a phone......

As stated, read the article and you will understand.. the CEO of the acapgone Warwhouse group has predicted to the market lower profits due to higher priced phones and thus lower sales. The iPhone 7 sold below expectations, he hopes the 8 will sell better but it will not match the iPhone 6 sales again I suspect due to high price.

Now remember folks. He is he boss of a massive phone store chain.... I think he would know.

People will still pay it. Contracts have been bad for years and it has not stopped people spending huge amounts. My dad pays around £60 a month for the S8 plus and he doesn't use his phone like i do either. People will pay for contracts certainly when it's the iphone.

I'm willing to pay around £70 a month for the new iphone as i don't want to pay it in full.

The iphone 7 sold what 40 million iPhones just last quarter? Apple will struggle to get the demand for this as millions and millions will buy this within secs of it being available.

Let's not forget resale value is amazing on iPhones. The new device will cost a lot but when you can sell your old phone for £400-£500 the cost is certainly more manageable.

I do. Actually again, there are plenty of people I know who have said they will buy it. For everyone that you know that have told you they won't, there's plenty of people who will buy it. Subjective at best to say the least.

I don't expect the iphone 8 to sell more than the 6/6 plus series, but that doesn't mean it won't sell well. Again, it'll probably be a matter of having supply for the demand. But it won't be because customers don't want the phone. Again, I don't know why people expect every iphone release to outsell the previous generation. It was great for Apple for years to enjoy that, but it's unsustainable to keep doing that year after year forever.

Finally got to play with a Note 8 demo. Incredibly feature rich, gorgeous display and zippy performance.

Though it does feel oddly balanced in the hand. It’s a tall phone for sure.

I do wish it had dual speakers.

As a device, you won’t get more for the money from any manufacturer in my opinion. Not even iPhone 8.

Yes, it will not sell as well as the iPhone 6 range.
As I said, this is the CEO of the UKs biggest? phone shop chain who has had to announce reduced profits to the market, blaming increased phone costs..

He is in a position to know better then anyone on here. Unless your the CEO of an equally big chain announcing profits and earnings to the city.

The iPhone 8 is 'hoped' to sell more then the iPhone 7.

If your desperate for the iPhone 'Edition' great, if your not an iOS fan then wait a few months for the Note 8 at a bargain price.

Doesn't matter if he's the CEO of CPW or a person here. Nobody knows the demand truely yet and phone sales are more than just what comes through CPW..i have never took phones out from them and many people don't. They buy direct or from carriers not via CPW.

People are already paying a lot for contracts as it is and if people's contracts are up they will upgrade.

As good of an option the note 8 is and even if it reduced in a few months most will want the new iphone over an android device. I'm talking general public not techies.

I only care about geeking out on gadgets. I don’t care what any manufacturer manages to sell.

The iPhone 8 may or may not sell better than a previous version, but that has no bearing on my deciding to tinker with one.

Though I see two possible reasons it may not: availability and cost of entry.

Apple is now in the habit of announcing products that clearly aren’t ready for mass production or they are completely inept at making goods in quantity. AirPod’s? It’s a joke.

And Apple is officially entering ridiculous pricing status. Tim Cook is out of his mind. Perfectly illustrated by the gold and stainless to a lesser extent, Apple Watches.

But he's not saying anything to support your stance of the iPhone 8 will not sell well. He's hoping it will sell. There's no definitive "he knows it will or won't".

I'm trying to understand what you consider not selling. Do you think it won't sell as much as the 7?

Do you think the note 8 will outsell the iPhone 8?

I had the Note 5. You'd be surprised with you get accustomed to doing with stylus once you have access to it.

Some tasks are just more precise and easier.

Coming from a 6s plus, I'm looking forward to the change, I got my first taste of android last year on the note 7 and was really pleased with the experience. I can only hope it gets even better with the note 8 this year.

Had iPhones since the 3GS, consistent experience but considering I use my phone as my computer mostly now, I do wanna step up to something more veristile. Dex is in my near future

I think a LOT of people are WAAYYY overestimating Jo Public and just how much they are prepared to spend on a mobile phone...
I don't think it will sell well in Apples terms, like the Apple Watch, oh sure it's the best selling wearable ever made, apparently, and yet Apple has refused to report its 'exact' sales figures in any earnings reports, it instead chooses to lump its sales results in with other Apple items.

It will all come down to price, but considering how xpensive the Note 8 contracts are in the UK, I don't hold my breath for the iPhone Edition. And if as I suspect we will get the same tech and design next year as the standard iPhone for less money, it will possibly impact sales too.
