When you ask this question, you're going to get a barrage of posts trying to discredit some specific tech/feature, resolution/PPI/display comparisons, claims of this is better/worse than that (that are a mix of totally spot on, subjective, erroneous, hyperbolic).

I'm going to respond this way: if you've used a 6S/7 then you've used an 8, if you've used a 6S+, 7+, then you've used an 8 Plus in terms of the general experience. An X is different in a way that you really have to experience first hand since as features on website, the "feel" and cohesiveness isn't conveyed. The size comparison is more than just measurements and pixels.

If you prefer the X, enough said, however, if you prefer to have the best iPhone that uses the same general interface paradigm and tech as previous iPhones, the 8/8+ is an outstanding choice.

I'm not who you asked, but if I understood your question correctly (in the quote but=be, right?), then I'd say yes. Quite similar but at least to me it feels somewhat easier to type. Could just be placebo, though.

For the record, I switched to the X from an iPhone 7.

To me the 8+ keyboard works better for me than the X.

That may very well be the case, as the screen on the plus models is a little bit wider than on the X, or iPhone 7 for that matter, and thus there's more room for the keys. But as I understood the original question was in comparison to the 7 (or at least the same screen size), which is of similar form factor to the X, with which I have some experience. Can't really speak for the 8+ having only tried it a little here and there.

I have been going back and forth with both phones for just over a week now and one minute I keeping the 8+ then it's the X....I think I have finally decided to stick with the X. Finding that I prefer Face-ID over the home button and using one-handed is easier on X. I will miss the larger screen of the plus but the X feels better in my hand.

The Form factor of the iPhone X is probably most underrated and under talked feature about the whole phone. The problem with the iPhone Plus is one handed use is very difficult for most, where the iPhone X has a much more slimlined design and is comfortable for longer periods of use one handed. That alone can be a selling factor for those who find the X to hold comfortably.

Let me know how it goes!

I am doing better. The BIG help was adding a case to the X. Apple doesnt design its phone for comfort clearly. Holding the X was just not pleasant between how slippery it is and the edges are so narrow that it presses into my fingers very uncomfortably. With a nice case both these issues are corrected

Just to update

I've sorted a new iPhone 8 Plus via my O2 Refresh account here in the UK

The more I read (and after faffing with my brothers iPhone X yesterday) the more I know that the 8 Plus is the right one for me :)

Small phones and I do not get on well! Shovel sized hands and fat-finger syndrome when typing messages etc... Just makes sense, to me, to have the larger real estate of the 8 Plus but also I much prefer the Touch ID!

Should land with me tomorrow; ordered a Spigen Neo Hybrid case and some tempered glass screen protectors... Looking forward to getting back with iOS having been a huge Vanilla Android user (Nexus 6, 6P and Pixel XL)

You will enjoy it. Plus and X are both solid phones. No wrong choice picking either phone, just preference.

The 8 Plus landed with me this morning

Soon moved everything across from my Nexus 6P; fitted a tempered glass screen protector and a Spigen Neo Hybrid case and all done and dusted :)

Superb phone, works as I want it to and with a great screen as well...

Very glad I've made the move back to iOS really; makes sense seeing as everything else I have is Apple!

Wait until you see how great the battery life is!

I have an X as of last week. I came from an 6s Plus and using a Plus today was just archaic, IMO. I had to help a user with her phone and that square screen and I instinctually looked to swipe up to go home and swipe up and hold for multi-tasking. That's not to say the Plus models are useless, but I can't see myself going back to a non X model down the road.

I gotta say the one thing putting me off the X is the price, I don't mean I can't afford it, but I mean I'm worried about theft.
When going around London I feel like I'd have to think twice about getting it out to take a photo for instance, because X's are quite easily distinguishable. You can have all the security tech in the world such as Face ID but I'm pretty sure it's easy to nick a phone, reset it and then sell it on. Sure a thief can steal any phone, but everyone knows that the X is the most expensive on the market. I'm not sure if this worry would ruin the phone for me and make me use it less often. Thoughts?

I think most thieves now know that a stolen iPhone is as good as a brick.

Oh, and no it’s not “easy” to reset.

The X is the better phone, but it just depends on whether or not you can adapt to new technology or not. In my opinion, it's better to adapt now as the home button and Touch ID are not coming back. It's a great experience as is and will only get better.

Not easy at all. A stolen phone is useless.

for me from my experience with iphones over the last 10yrs including the plus size range and now using an iphone x for the last two weeks....

I don't think i could go back, yes in some apps i miss the width of the plus size screens, but going back now to an iphone with a home button and bigger bezels would be like going back to an ex-girlfriend and finding out after two days you have made a mistake and instantly regret going back.... iphone x all the way for me...

If you can just wait for the 2018 models then wait, if you must buy then buy the iPhone 8 or iPhone 8+ the iPhone X is going to be discontinue this year,

Pretty easy to nick a phone yes, but as long as Find My iPhone is enabled then the chances of anyone being able to reset your phone are pretty slim, even more so if your also using two step verification.

something wrong with my two step verification when I log to my MBP I am getting the code to both places to my MBP and to my iPhone

That’s how I feel. I get how some people might like certain aspects of the 8 Plus better. But it just feels like a step back with the bezels and the home button. Love my X

My question is, how often does it happen where someone tries to physically steal/rob your iPhone away from you? It's one thing if you leave your iPhone unattended and somebody tries to steal it, but for somebody actually physically depriving you of your iPhone from you seems rather drastical and unlikely.

I guess I've just felt that it's unlikely previously because I've had an iPhone 6. But iPhone X's are quite eye-catching and are well-known for being 'the most expensive phone in the world'. I agree that it'd be unlikely even so, but in the case that it does happen - That's £1120 gone. Maybe I'll just get insurance on it.

Nothing wrong with insurance on devices like these!

Speak to your bank first; they may offer it via your account, or if not them, try your home/contents insurance

We have an auto-amount of £2k on any personal items (phones, watches, jewellery, tablets etc) via our Home & Contents insurance

The devices are really a personal choice. I have the X, coming from 7+ and previously the 6s. All of them are great devices but I chose the X over the 8+ because of the extra features like the OLED screen, Animoji and FaceID, but mainly I went with the X because it offered a larger screen size compared to my 7+, and in a relatively smaller overall device size. I’m happy with my choice, again it’s a matter of personal choice. Hope that helps.

You really chose the X for Animoji? Wow, just wow!

The keyboard size alone is the reason I would never buy an X-sized iPhone. I have enough trouble typing on my 8+. I can’t imagine going to a smaller keyboard.
Go PATS! :)
