Not true, I hear from many people that Face ID often does not work well and certainly not in the dark!

First, Face ID technology has nothing to do with visible light, it uses infrared spectrum.

As for these people having issues, it would be interesting to know how they trained (and continue training) their Face ID (i.e. if you dont enter a passcode after it fails the AI can't learn). The only time it fails is when my face is distorted from laying in bed or I am not looking at the screen. And lately its not failing because the AI learned my weird pillow face eventually.

For me Face ID is as reliable, and might even be bit more reliable for my use case than Touch ID. For example, Touch ID NEVER worked during and for an hour or two after I exercised (or even took a hot shower).

Funny, the majority of people complaining in these forums are not actual long term users of an X.

Funny that people with an X are so eager to defend their overpriced purchase!

Not defending. You're spewing nonsense, i was trying to inform you as to how the technology actually worked (seriously, you sound silly saying it doesnt work in the dark). Unfortunately, you're mostly trolling.

Good luck!

I am not trolling, but tell the truth that you would rather not hear!

But you are wrong. It does work in the dark. I've done it and it worked. Countless others have done it and it works. The science behind it proves LIGHT is not a factor in the equation of whether or not it will work.

Strange then, that I hear so many people around me say that it does not work well!

Had an 8 plus, then my amazing wife got me the X for my birthday, total night and day difference! Definitely enjoy the X tremendously... love the all screen aspect and enjoy Face ID, haven’t had any issues with it at all...

FaceID on my X works perfectly, 100% of the time in the dark. In complete darkness. Some trolls just spew nonsense. The people that I know with a X also have no problems at all with FaceID in the dark.

The reasons why I did not buy X but an iPhone 8 Plus;

8+ has a larger screen (16:9 movies)
The battery of the 8+ lasts much longer.
For the time being, find touch ID finer working (in the dark, etc.)
Price

I think you don't have ANY experience with the iPhone X and you're making assertions on something that isn't true at all, Apple designed the Face ID to work In low light conditions, which actually works fairly well in the dark.

Ok I decided to upgrade my iPhone 6S+ to a new one, went to my ATT store to see if buy one get one free will do, buy it
look like a hokes. I have 4 line unlimited data none under contract, they want to give you the extra iPhone only on new additional line its mean I will have now 5 lines. so no thanks I am going to the Apple store will buy unlocked one.
now i will play with the X but i don't really happy with that one, I like to buy the 8+ but I open minded.
will update you guys when I buy it and why I chose the one

Ok so on Sunday I went with my son to the Apple store to buy a new iPhone 8+ or X to replace my 6S+
I came with open mined tested both side by side and after 15 minus I bought the 8+ for $39.50 per month with option to exchange it after a year.
the reason for my chose were:
1- Video on horizontal (you tube are not working as should.
2- the size of the X is just too small 5.8" ? not in my book
3- the notch is a bummer
4- all the new stuff not interesting me I dont use any of the locks on my phone
5- price too high

but I liked the SS bezel compare to the Aluminum one on the 8+, and it a nice iPhone overall but not for me yet.

one more point to Apple, there are many people i know that will have very hard time to adjust to the new iPhone
the way it work : senior citizens and many non technical people

Good thinking.

1 -- I agree, but i rarely watch video on my Plus so ultimately it didn't matter. I use my TV, Tablet, or laptop for videos
2 -- Agree. However, once I adjusted I noticed how silly the Plus size is due to the stupidly large bezels that just waste a TON of potential screen space.
3 -- What notch? I dont even notice it anymore. :)
4 -- I love Face ID, maybe more than Touch ID. But both do the job so it's a preference. It's a bit scary you dont lock your phone at all...
5 -- Agree. It is over priced!

I agree with your decision but I decided to give the X a 2 week trial as I was feeling just like you about the X. At first I loathed the screen size of the X, but I adjusted to it and it's fine. I try to see it as a phone and not a phablet (I am a phablet person). I prefer Face ID and the swiping gestures once I adjusted in ~3 days.

I just couldn't bring myself to buy a Plus when I already had a Plus for years and it's just the same old thing. In the end I am glad i gave the X a 2 week trial as I really like the new approach. I will absolutely swap it out for the X Plus in October 2018 though as I love phablets :D

Yes, gestures are going to confuse the non-technologically inclined people -- I have advised all of them to buy iPhone 8/8+ while they still can!

I love my iPhone X, I really think is is a great device.........but the only thing that I really hate with all my guts is Face ID. I really have the following issues:
1. Outside under direct sunlight, Face ID seems to fail every time it tries to detect me. I don't know if so much sunlight can blind the sensors or something.
2. Your face needs to be aligned to the phone. Quite inconvenient. Especially when laying in bed or in a couch, it is hard to get it working.

All in all, I think is a great device but I think Face ID is far as convenient as Touch ID is at least in this stage. I see my girlfriend with her iPhone 8 Plus and how seamlessly it always unlock and it is amazing, vs Face ID which fails at least 30- 40% of times on me.

I use a Surface Pro 4 and I love the Windows Hello (quite similar to face ID) Technology there, I think it makes a lot more sense in a laptop / tablet than on a phone.

I had trouble with Face ID initially, then read some tips in these forums. I found Face ID to be more reliable than Touch ID though I had the older version 1 Touch ID in the 6+. If you're failing 30-40% of the time something is wrong.

Suggest you start over and reset your Face ID holding it further away and in better lighting during the setup (if you search these forums there are better tip guides than what I provided). When it fails be sure to enter your passcode so the AI learns. As for laying in bed, yes it does fail a lot but that has improved as the AI learned (i tended to hold the phone MUCH closer in bed than during the day and I was squinting).
