Yes. I have had the exact same problem. The scratches appearing on my screen are numerous and go far beyond those on the iPhone 6 that I’ve had almost three years. I’m heading to the store to deal with this while I’m still in my 14 days.

Let me know how that goes.

When you spend all this money on a phone you need to protect it anyway you can. The second I took my 8+ out of the plastic I put a case and tempered glass screen protector on it. No worries.

What would you consider the best premium tempered glass screen protector? I can see a few tiny scratches on my brand new iPhone 8 plus that I’ve only had for 2 weeks, in a pocket with nothing else in it. I don’t want the scratches to get worse with time. Thanks.

My brother uses the cheap ones on amazon (the $3 ones) and they seem to hold up pretty well... I know that you can buy a 3pk for $10.

I’m pretty sure he’s on his original too (has a case though)

I'm in the exact same boat! Another scratch to mine.

I'm wondering if the glass is defective. This phone has a case, and I've babied it more than my 7 Plus, which after a year of usage, had no screen scratches.
It takes just one grain of sand in your pocket to scratch a screen. Just a single one.
The comparison with your previous device is useless.

Free, since it was within the 14 days.

You were able to see them without direct sunlight. They were too deep to be on the coating, the actual glass was scratched.

My Genius Bar wasn't helpful. They wanted to charge me the full replacement screen price ($169), although the joke is that they didn't have the part in stock. My "Genius" was also a complete ***** from a customer service perspective.

I'm going to contact Apple Support tomorrow and just tell them they can replace the screen for free, or I'm going to return it and repurchase it in a store someday. The screen isn't broken, so it's not a damaged phone. In other words, they can eat the cost of a defective screen replacement, or they can take back my phone and give me a brand new one.

So update:

I got a replacement since it bothered me so much (they even said that it was bad and were surprised when I told them that I never have anything in my pockets.

I left my screen thing on that came with the phone and bought a case at the dollar store. When I took the plastic off, I noticed a hair line crack on the top right of the phone.... like seriously?

So you had to have dropped it it there was a crack. Dollar store for your case? LOL! Sorry you can count your lucky stars that Apple replaced it.

So you are mad at Apple because they would not give you a new phone after damaging your screen?

I just got a 3 pack of some of the cheapest ones I could find on amazon. As long as there’s something between you and the screen for protection is all that matters. Tempered glass are nicer than regular plastic protectors in my opinion because tempered glass protectors in my experience are much easier to apply with no bubbles given that your screen is clean during installation.

Let me first say I'm not questioning if your screen is defective or not. But I will comment on your attitude.

What makes you think you can get away with your type of attitude and giving Apple demands on what you think is appropriate? If I recall correctly, I saw a previous post from you where you stated something similar where "You were going to give Apple no choice to replace your iPhone 7+. " See below.

My 7+ suffered the same fate.

I cited the advertisement of the phone in the rain, and a manager overrode the repair to replace my phone for free.

As always with the genius bar, YMMV, but I was polite and firm, and left them with no choice.

It's this type of mentality that should not be tolerated and you're not in a position where you can make demands to a company that doesn't have to deal with unruly customers. It's called denying the return.

The screen is defective.

How so? The screen is advertised as scratch resistant, not scratch proof. And reading your comment about "I'm going to contact Apple Support tomorrow and just tell them they can replace the screen for free"... that's the kind of stinking self-entitled attitude that doesn't get you anywhere. Perhaps you were the one with the sh*tty attitude, and quite rightly it got you nowhere. I've found that being courteous to Apple staff has led to much better results ... cases being replaced for free, devices being replaced when out of warranty to name a few.

Is that a scratch or a crack int the glass?

I notice a lot of little micro scratches on the huge chins of my 7 Plus. Never happened prior so they must have changed something up. Usually baby my iPhone's, nothing on the screen itself.

It isn’t when you scratched it with daily use.

I had it for 2 days with a case, never carried it with keys and I almost never keep it in my pocket. In those 2 days of ownership, I barely went anywhere with the phone. This is compared to iPhones prior that I’ve banged up for sure due to my own usage, and the screens have been unscathed in comparison.

Not that I owe you an explanation as to my temperament when going to a store, but I didn’t make demands or act like a bad customer. I was as equally polite with this incident as I was before. I was commenting on the temperament of the genius I dealt with.

The return policy exists for a reason, and in this case the reason is the product isn’t holding up to the standards prior iterations of the product, or features as advertised.

It is defective because you scratched it?

LOL!

I’ve heard quite a few reports on YouTube about the 8 scratching easily.

Yep, just got Apple to confirm this is one of many cases of screens scratching abnormally too easily, and they’re actually going to swap the screen free of charge.

TL;DR Apple recognized there is a trend amongst soft screens on some iPhone 8’s, and is replacing it. So everyone claiming “Lol, you idiot, you scratched it through daily use”, can calm down now.

Until Apple comes out to say this, I call bull. Sorry. Random guy on internet looking for support for his self-inflicted phone issue with no sources for Apple confirmation...

I have found since the 6 that iphone screens have become like butter. This is why as soon as I get a new iPhone a glass screen protector goes on it.

Besides the crack that the replacement phone came with, this phone has NO scratches on it.

My first iPhone 8 plus was plagued with scratches even though I kept nothing in the same pocket with it. I would literally be extra careful with it seeing some scratches were showing, yet i would get huge deep scratches afterwards even though I babies it to a much greater degree than my old iPhones which had no scratch issues.

Like the issue with some 2012 MacBook Pro Retinas that had a problem with the anti-glare coating, I’m convinced some iPhone 8’s are experiencing an issue as well. Not all of them had this experience, but I’m shocked that a lot of you people don’t believe us when we say that it’s scratching so easily even though we have babied them.

Now that my new iPhone 8+ has no scratching, I think this is obviously with some phones, not all.

At least 5-6 people commented on here with the same issue - imagine how many people who don’t go on these forums notice this as well and don’t say anything?

So you already dropped it and cracked the screen?

Kidding.

Hope one day you will get what you are looking for.
