We are in uncharted waters. This is a test run for Apple. Can a new product sell with online only annoucement and sales.

If this tanks then Apple will delay the iPhone 12 as that could seriously hurt profits if it didn't do well.

If this sells as expected, then full steam ahead with the iPhone 12 this fall.

I believe this upcoming iPhone 9 is critically important as a test platform to see if Apple can launch a new product under the current unforeseen conditions.

Looking forward to the iphone 9, but doubt there will be a 9+ Version as this will most likely eat into iphone 11 sales.

By the time SE2 Plus is launched (late 2020 or early 2021), the iPhone 11 will move down to $599.

It's not as if delaying iPhone 5G will have any material impact on profits. The design is already locked in with component supplier contracts signed. The only thing Apple can change much is the design and planning for the 2021 iPhone.

Hi Jpack, yes i meant in both the 9 and 9 Plus launching together at the same time. Ive seen previous rumour statements of a 9 Plus variant being launched in late 2020/ going into 2021, which you are probably referring to and this would make much more sense in terms of Apples product/pricing line up as it would probably replace the XR in terms of price.

How is this uncharted waters? Apple has released a plethora of new-er products over the years with a ’silent release’, giving a brief description outlet to other websites for them to market it for them, or through commercials. I don’t think this iPhone specifically needs to have its own keynote, the price point will attract enough where it should be successful on its own. Consumers are smart enough to pay attention to marketing and media hype.

The other ongoing thread regarding the iphone 9 has tweets from Jon Prosser that an iphone 9 plus WILL launch at the same time as the 4.7 iphone 9. The 9+ is also apparently mentioned in Ios 14 code. Gosh dont know what to think now, hopefully its true!!!

biggest question for me about this phone, and no rumors address it. Hoping for main camera from the 11, as the SE shared the same camera as the 6s. If it’s the same as on the 8, id lose interest.

Me too, if the camera is the same as the main on the 11 Pro, I´m in; if not, I´m out.

Launch on April 15th and at shipped April 22nd! I may order one for Summer time activities since it is short season! Cannot carry a big 6.1" around!

So should I go out to buy iPhone 8 cases now or no? I'm still concerned with the thickness.

Is this for real? The size difference between the two is minuscule, the 8 measures: 5.45 x 2.65 x 0.29 inches (138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm) while the 11 measures: 5.94 x 2.98 x 0.33 inches (150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3 mm) just wondering what activities. I get it if you're going to use a SE, that's a big difference in size from the 6.1 inch phone, but the rumored new version wouldn't be that much smaller/lighter. Just genuinely curious, not trying to break your chops.

Actually, that's a pretty significant size difference.

BTW, in general IMO this April release is not so much about size, but about price. It is the budget option.

If this is an April Fools' joke, kudos for the effort!

Apparently the character under iPhone 9 means “fake”

Aka it’s a purposeful April Fools Joke

Agree it’s good effort!

April fools xD

I personally think it won't be called iPhone "9" to be honest

personally I hope it will be,

but I agree. JP said in Feb a source told him it will just be “iPhone”. Not SE2 and not 9. Just iPhone, following the iPad naming scheme.

that same source was apparently correct about other things, so I’m guessing that’s the likely name

MacOtakara was the one who reported iPhone 9 name in December and they’ve got a solid but not perfect track record - but that could have been an internal name or something. That was the first time iPhone “9” became a thing.

I’m hopeful it’s the 9, personally, but I don’t think it will be realistically. I believe the “iPhone” name. Follows iPad naming scheme.

Just “iPhone” sounds good, but I don’t mind iPhone 9 either. iPhone and iPhone Plus might be confusing though.

For me the thing is that every iPhone has grown the numbers by a little bit. From the 6s to the 7, from the 7 to the 8 and from the 8 to the X and 11Pro.

The 7 was a perfect balance of weight and thickness, if you jump to the 11 pro, the difference is significant.

And the fact that on the X/XS/11 you need to reach the top of the phone, that´s a big thing on one handed use.

Wonder what the price difference will be between SE2/9 and that upcoming 5.4" iPhone 12. If it's only like 250-300 dollars then I'm not sure if this budget one will be worth it, especially for people like me who tend to keep their phones for 5-6 years

This is a sad thread. In the midst of a global pandemic you guys are hoping and praying for a great budget iPhone. **** food, medicine and jobs.. use that stimulus to buy the latest budget iPhone.

Pathetic.

Carry on.

This is why you are doomed.
