I’ve already donated real money. My sig is my history of iPhones, I doubt they are worth anything.

Just “iPhone” sounds good, but I don’t mind iPhone 9 either. iPhone and iPhone Plus might be confusing though.
iPhone 2020, perhaps?

I think iPhone SE2 is still the best option though. It makes sense (old design+newest specs, since SE was 5s design with 6s specs and this will be 8 design with 11 specs)

You've not donated ****. You're just a keyboard warrior.

I’m not a warrior, I just had a hard time swallowing some of the attitudes in this thread in the midst of world events. Who gives a **** if there is a new phone coming out shortly. I probably should have not posted that, but what’s done is done. And yes, there is a family down the street that I helped because they lost their job, and I haven’t yet. That is a donation. Turns out you are the warrior now.

So go and ban all the posts of people complaining about the heat of the macbook air, or the dust on a lens or the excitement of the delivery date of a new product... people do what they want.

Great for the family you helped.

Actually, that's a pretty significant size difference.

BTW, in general IMO this April release is not so much about size, but about price. It is the budget option.

Less than 1/2 an inch smaller on the height is significant? Oh okay then.

For me the thing is that every iPhone has grown the numbers by a little bit. From the 6s to the 7, from the 7 to the 8 and from the 8 to the X and 11Pro.

The 7 was a perfect balance of weight and thickness, if you jump to the 11 pro, the difference is significant.

And the fact that on the X/XS/11 you need to reach the top of the phone, that´s a big thing on one handed use.

I get where you're coming from, but the person I quoted stated he/she wants to get the new model (whatever they'll call it), to use for activities instead of using their 6.1 inch phone. I'm assuming they have either the XR or the 11 if it's an iPhone. I was simply asking my question because the size of the new model will only be slightly smaller.

You think that coming on here to escape the reality of what's going on in the world, even just for a few minutes, thinking about something positive is a bad thing? Maybe people use the thought of a new phone or listening to music or even just chatting with like minded people online because they're locked down as their version of therapy to get through tough times. Everyone deals with these things in their own way, who are we to criticize???

Yes, for something the size of a phone that IS significant. It is 39.4% bigger and 31.1% heavier than the 8. (48.5% and 50.4% from the iPhone 6 as the 8 grew from the 6). It makes a big difference in being able to use one handed, for people with smaller hands and for people without room to carry/store it.

I don't understand what guys like you are trying to accomplish? People are quarantined now so they have to occupy their mind somehow.

Whether thats TV, netflix, video games OR discussion new technology. WHERE'S the HARM?

It's ironic that they find the time to post in forums about electronic consumer devices, just to say we shouldn't be spending time on electronic consumer devices.

This is a sad thread. In the midst of a global pandemic you guys are hoping and praying for a great budget iPhone. **** food, medicine and jobs.. use that stimulus to buy the latest budget iPhone.

Pathetic.

Carry on.

This is why you are doomed.
Sorry, are people not allowed to have interests anymore due to the pandemic? Take your grandstanding somewhere else.

this should be at USD 399 anything more than that seems beyond a reach given that unemployment is at the peak today

I wonder if the 9 will have a Qualcomm modem?

Qualcomm CEO would have bragged about it if so. Besides, this is a low-cost iPhone and Apple would need to qualify a new LTE modem they've not used before. Intel almost certainly won the SE2 socket.

With the quarantine, having reliable phones and mobile devices is especially important now with a lot of people practicing social distancing and telecommuting.

Besides, if the economy outside of essentials grinds to a screeching halt, that just means more job loss. As far as I'm aware, Apple is one of the companies giving their employees paid leave during this pandemic so kudos to them for that.

How is this uncharted waters? Apple has released a plethora of new-er products over the years with a ’silent release’, giving a brief description outlet to other websites for them to market it for them, or through commercials. I don’t think this iPhone specifically needs to have its own keynote, the price point will attract enough where it should be successful on its own. Consumers are smart enough to pay attention to marketing and media hype.
I can't remember if the 2017 basic iPad was a silent release. That was a good seller though. iPad sales were down YOY and that stemmed the bleeding.

However, retail operations are pretty much down right now (unless it's food, TP and other household essentials). That's bound to put a damper on things.

How dare people think or talk about anything but death and devastation for the next 12-18 months! Unacceptable!

Well, that didn’t last long. Seems like they may be reconsidering the launch? I’m assuming Jon is talking about the iPhone 9 here, because he said “dates” as in 4/15 for announcement and 4/22 for shipping.

So far, everything about the SE2 delay suggests a capacity issue with after sales support.

Bloomberg: Apple asks retail store employees to temporarily become remote technical support staff.
Prosser: Apple is shipping iMacs to select retail employees who are being asked to work remotely.

Worst case is, SE2 is pushed out another week. Retail staff need time to be trained to handle support requests.

SE has always stood for Special Edition.

It’s not what many wanted size wise, but the rumoured small 12 model later this year will take care of those customers.

A budget phone with a decent camera, improved battery and updated internals and colour choices will sell very well in this climate, compared to a 1k+ priced device.

Here’s hoping it’s tomorrow or soon at the very least!

It’s coming...

I’m starting a new job in the next few months (already been delayed once because of Covid...) and have just read that I’ll need to buy a handset for work instead of being provided one directly. Suddenly a lot more interested in this launch. Especially if there’s a Product Red version!
