I hope there is wireless charging even at $399, if there isnt that'd be a huge step back.

not really the old iPhone SE did not have wireless charging so if that did not have I don't think this will have it

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says $449, so yes, in that case I would expect wireless.
I don’t believe $449. I think it starts at $399. At $449, that means the plus version (assuming it exists) costs $549, which is too close to the Xr. Putting the 4.7” at $399 gives them a nice $100 gap between each model (until you get to the gap between the 11 and the 11 pro).

Obviously the ‘SE 2’ didn’t launch on Friday as rumored yesterday. If this phone does launch, it would probably be a Tuesday through Thursday, as Apple would want some room for marketing, at least through some online tutorials given no live keynote is happening.

What if: When SE2 Plus is released, the SE2 drops from $449 to $399. That would still put a $100 gap between the two models.

I’m sticking by Prosser‘s leak (4/15 for announcement, 4/22 for shipping). His March leaks were all accurate, so I’ll put my trust in him for now.

Yeah, I agree. There’s still a lot of hope for this phone to launch at any given point this month, even into May for that matter. I really think this phone would have launched already if it wasn’t due to the pandemic, and Apple has had to make some readjustments obviously along the way.

What brand cases are the best? I heard Spigen goes yellow quickly (clear case)

At no point since this pandemic became real would it have made sense for Apple to delay the release more than logistics required. They’ve already put the time/money into development. It’s a phone that physically exists.

Yes, the stores are closed but we all know how to order online. It’ll sell slower; but that phone will sell. May as well get on with it.

And I’d bet $ that the Plus version isn’t happening.

Yeah that could make sense but I meant if the SE launched with a plus (5.5”) version, which is a (iffy) rumor. Historically the plus size is $100-$130 more than the 4.7” size, so I was assuming that holds. If they drop the price when the plus model comes out then yeah, that makes sense.

In my opinion, it does make sense for Apple to release a 9+/SE2+ alongside the regular 9/SE2 as that would ultimately replace both the 8 and 8+.

It would be silly for Apple to carry on selling the 8+ until September or the fourth quarter as it would be the lone A11 device and the price would have to further drop another >$150 USD to cost less than than the 9/SE2. The 9/SE2 will be the newer phone of course and it's widely believed to cost starting at $399 USD. The 8+ has already dropped $150 USD ~7 months ago (from $699 down to $549). Dropping well over 40% of price in ~7 months seems quite excessive.

Discontinuing both the 8 and 8+ while releasing only the regular 9/SE2 gives consumers less options (not terrible but still somewhat negative). Believe it or not, many people do like phones with large screens, bezels, and home buttons altogether.

But ultimately, only time will tell what Apple will release and what they'll discontinue.

From everything I’ve seen recently, IMO I think the existence of the 9 Plus is extremely likely. I’m putting my trust in Jon Prosser until he gets something wrong, and he has kept insisting that it’s real. I’ve talked about this before in a different thread, but I see the 9 Plus/11 situation as a parallel to the iPad Air/iPad Pro 11”. Basically the same specs minus RAM, one is cheaper without the modern design and has bezels while the other is more expensive with a modern design and has newer features, etc. I think the 9 Plus and the 11 can coexist without too much issue (Except for the PPI issue, I’m still very curious how they’ll handle that part).

Also, I’ve seen talk about the production on the Plus not being finished yet, so I don’t think it’ll launch with the regular 9. Assuming it doesn’t, I think it’ll be announced and released around WWDC. The A13 would already be 9 months old at that point, so I’d be very surprised if they release it any later than that.

^ Assuming the 9+/SE2+ doesn't release ~April 22nd alongside the regular 9/SE2 what do you personally think Apple would do with the 8+? Continue selling it as the lone A11 device until sometime June? Discontinue it when the regular 9/SE2 releases? Or something else?

The naming will infuriate some SE diehard fanboys, i.e. those who insist SE stands for small form factor, when it clearly implies low-cost. 😄

Should take another look at their marketing on Wayback machine

They were very clearly marketing it as the most powerful 4" device Available

Interesting thought. I think a plus model is coming but not at the same time as this phone. Seems to be delayed but it's real as per JP

I think they'll replace both the 8 and 8 plus with this phone, treating the 8 series as one line. I don't see them keeping the 8 plus and dropping the 8, doesn't make sense to me

It’s definitely a weird situation, but I’m guessing they’ll keep it around for the few months left until the 9 Plus.

That is of coz assuming there will be a Plus version. I kind of think Apple wants to get rid of it. It is the only system that is doing downsampling on resolution, so they could go back to the old days of pixel perfect design.

And SE range has always been an outliner in pricing. ( Which I was reminded by someone on MR last time I thought the $399 sounds too cheap ) . So I would not surprised if they officially delisted iPhone 8 and it will only be available via third party channel.

Anyway.... where the heck is iPhone SE / 9 ....
