2 most annoying...

Appears to be fixed in firmware 2.0.1

(1) Max number of non-firmware "standby" apps:

a) Launch a newly downloaded app and wait until it finishes loading.
b) Press the iPhone Home button
c) Launch a different newly downloaded app and wait until it finishes loading.
d) rinse, wash, repeat....

You can only launch 16. When you try to launch #17 the app will crash back to the home screen (regardless of what non-firmware app you try to launch). Note that this is not "installed" apps but "launched" apps. (see https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/517496/) This is probably what many think is a specific application crashing based on complaints I've read here.

(2) Any failed app install appears to completely crash the iPhone (can't restart without going into "restore" mode and doing a complete restore.

The long backups are definitely annoying too, but I'm not sure that can be classified as a bug...

Error 0x800CCC92 in Outlook 2002

I sync my iphone 3g with Outlook (2003) on my Vista Home Premium PC at work, and my Macbook pro at home. It syncs fine with the Macbook, but at work, since I got the iphone (and set up MobileMe), it has caused the following error when my outlook tries to send/ receive new email 0x800CCC92.

There's loads of stuff on other forums about Vista not really working with Outlook 2003, so this could be a coincidence, but one of Microsoft's explanations for the error is that add ins can cause the error. I've tried all the usual stuff, and i'm wondering whether Mobileme or the iphone caused the problem.

Having my email at work only intermittently is somewhat inconvenient, I wonder if anyone else has this problem or has a fix?! Hoping...

when my iphone receives a call, i cannot press the answer button or decline button. they just dont work. i have to press the home button

While Texting? And opening up icons and so forth?

Aloha,
While im trying to do a text nor opening up an icon it stuck or freezes it gets quit fusterated at times but other than that I'm so smitten to my iPhone 3g White.
Mahalo~

Oddball Coverflow issue

No clue why this happens, but every once in a while while browsing through coverflow, when I flip around an album, it flips and then disappears. After that happens, the iPod crashes to the home screen. Nothing too horrible, just rather odd.

4 gig iPhone '2G', OS 2.0, Jailbroken

P.S. Yes, I use random pictures for albums I build that have no artwork :)

I am a new to the iphone, (actually, new to anything made by apple :) ).
But there are some obvious flaws with the iphone (dont know if these have been mentioned before), like:
1. Why, when the iphone has so much computing power, does it not have a SINGLE office application like a word processor, pdf, powerpoint viewer/editor? Most of the times, it just seems like a really expensive social networking tool with an mp3 player thrown in.

2. Why cant i simply transfer files between phones thru blurtooth? Why do I need to load everything to my computer, then into itunes, and only then to my phone? Seems like a waste of Bluetooth tech to me. Also, it would have been really nice if we could actually play games with other people on the iphone, using bluetooth to connect.

3. When almost every new model of cell phones in the world allow mp3 ringtones (without a limit on length), the iPhone, with a proper mp3 player integrated doesn't allow this.

4. Barely any customization software to change the look/theme of the phone.

5. And finally, why in the world did they decide to lock the phone to certain carriers? wat is the point of it? I would have paid $500 directly to apple if they sold it unlocked, and their sales would probably triple in doing so. I would probably stop using my laptop (as would most employees at companies) if they could just get some of these features on the iPhone.

Sorry, I am just really frustrated at all this nonsense by apple. Such a waste of what it could have been.......

Gps

The GPS feature on my Iphone 3g is not working. In Google Maps, the locate me target spins and spins, but is unable to locate me. Also, Running Gypsy, and application that uses GPS, also is unable to receive a signal. Two days ago the GPS worked in my current location.

Dead strips to touch...but only during certain programs?

Very odd...seems to be a software issue but isn't resolved via any sort of software refresh - soft or hard. For example - when in phone i can't access the 4, 5, or 6 keys (yet in the main menu i have no issue with programs along that same line). In maps, i cant access the top line to insert an address to search for (but I can again touch and select any icons in the top of the screen on the menu). Very odd - I'm by no means a programmer but I'm usually a proficient troubleshooter. Any advice?

iPhone causes static noise

Whenever I am near my computer, my iPhone causes static-like noise in the stereo speakers next to my monitor. When I move my iPhone back and forth, the noise is most prominent in the closest speaker. The same thing happens in my kitchen radio. Do I need to just turn off my iPhone when I am working at my computer?

My Safari keeps crashing!!!! This is pissing me off

Safari is unusable on my PowerBook. I will buy an iPhone when Firefox becomes available. Why is MAC's Safari unusable on my MAC? Bad reception, bad software, cracked cases, crappy AT&T service, I am crazy for even considering buying a new phone.

Then you will never buy an iPhone, since Mozilla has said they have no plans to develop Firefox for the iPhone. Not sure Apple would let them in if they did have such plans.

don't worry, that's absolutly normal. my stereo speaker are making noises too when the cellphone features are acitve, incoming call, sending/receiving sms,....
just some interference caused by the iPhone and all other mobile phones ;)

iPhone 3G Issues

I am actively seeking other owners to join in a class action lawsuit against ATT Wireless and Apple for the ill-timed release of this product. ATT Wireless does not have enough tower coverage even in metropolitan areas to allow for use of this device with the advanced features. Coverage is lousy at best. ATT will not budge on reducing their additional $10 fee for services they can't provide. Unless the user turns off the 3G feature, GPS feature, and Bluetooth, battery consumption is unacceptable. This phone was rushed to market without adequate preparation by either Apple or ATT. If you try to return it to either Apple or ATT, they want a restocking fee even though it is their fault.

The problem is probably a result of ATT Wireless not having adequate 3G coverage. This is a major issue I have raised with ATT in prematurely launching their 3G network.

LOL, good luck on this one. 3G radios are a battery-eaters on any device, not just the iPhone. Apple provided (against their better judgment) what the people demanded....an iPhone 3G. Now you complain about battery life....WTF?!

Apple built the iPhone to be very upgradeable and they will likely tweak battery-related issues and other bugs in future updates. Patience, grasshopper! I run into a LOT of 3G-based Windows Mobile smartphone users carrying around extra batteries. Too bad this isn't an option with the iPhone, but really...if you can't find power between the car, home, office, ANY USB port on ANY computer, then you should have rethought your interest in a smartphone...any smartphone.

My iPhone lasts a whole day of use and I use the CRAP out of it nearly every day. It is as much of a toy as a functional digital lifestyle device and popping it out every 10 minutes to look something up is habitual. It is likely that the battery is going to quickly deplete as you are actually USING it.

AT&T's 3G network is the best in the country, hands down. Have you even tried T-Mobile's data network? How about Verizon's? Granted, AT&T's 3G network needs to expand faster than the devices sold by AT&T that demand its use, but a lawsuit isn't going to make it improve.

Sound problem when ringer mode is on...

My phone just recently started doing this. When I have my iPhone on ringer mode it doesn't make any noise when I receive text messages. Also when I enter my passcode to unlock my phone it doesn't make any keyboard click noises. But the weird thing is when I am on the keyboard like texting or for the internet it makes keyboard click noises. I don't know what's going on here. Anyone else having this issue?

You can fix this connection issue by going to your internet browsers internet options-connections-LAN Settings-check "automatically detect settings".

That's what worked for me.

Hi, My settings were already as you suggested - but thanks for the idea.

By looking at this in quite a lot of detail (albeit as someone who isn't very technical) it appears that the POP3 thingy (technical term ;)) that my office email uses isn't really designed to download things to more than one location. I don't know how my old blackberry got around this problem, because I didn't have it with that device, but it appears that the iphone causes the email server to panic and stop downloading to my office laptop. I have got around this problem (in case anyone else in the world doesn't have a better idea) by setting the fetch settings on my iphone to manual, and just not checking my iphone email whilst in the office.

This has the double whammy of dramatically extending the battery life - since I was faffing around with the phone all day when I first got it and it didn't last the whole day. Now, if I leave it on its own and just make and take calls when I need it (which is still quite a lot) the battery easily makes it through the day, with about 50% to spare.

If anyone has any better suggestions for the email - it would be great to hear them - cheers. :D

MAIL bug ~ lack of update connectivity

I've been having periodic problems with MAIL, in that it sometimes will not connect to server, whether I open mail acct or hit RELOAD key.

The only option is restarting the iPhone

The problem lies when I notice this as I am sending mail. Since it does not connect, the mail goes nowhere (and since there is only a SENT folder) the letter is forever lost.

As such, I am losing sent mail.

Any others w/ this problem
