Hmmmm...it was already pwned to 2.0.2 and others in earlier part of the thread said they were able to just upgrade to 2.1 without repwning...just wondering if i need to restore or update...
HELP i got a huge problem thats killing me literally. k so i STUPIDLY upgraded to the new firmware 2.1 [cuz apple suggested i do so i did] and now all i can do is call 911 ********. k heres the problem.. i absoluteky CANNOT downgrade my firmware, i tried EVERY program/method out there for almost 2 days striaght nothing works. i need a solution im so frustrated now i cant use my phone and ive lost all hope can somone PLEASE show me the way!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is what I suggest you all do. Uninstall itunes 8 and downloaded itunes 7.7. I use winpwn for windows and (pwnage tool for mac), so download 'program of your choice' (Winpwn 2.5). Uninstall the version you had on your computer. then install your program. RESTART YOUR COMPUTER. Then, download 2.0.2 firmware. Google 2.0.2.isw or something, or look at tysiphonehelp in youtube, in his videos of walkthroughs for winpwn, he puts a link where you can download the firmwares. Then, open your program (winpwn) and Do COMPLETE RESTORE. Put iphone in DFU mode and pwn itunes then hold shift and click restore in itunes and restore to the custom firmware you made. This will only DOWNGRADE YOUR IPHONE. then, once back to a working unlocked/jailbroken iphone, you can try to update to 2.1. For some people, they just click UPDATE when their phone is plugged in to itunes. This (FOR SOME PEOPLE) will update their phone and still be UNLOCKED. You will lose the jailbreak, if this works. All I did, was from 2.0.2 was click update, and I got 2.1 w/ an unlock. Jailbreak CAN be done. It is vigorous work and if you have a problem now, I would suggest not even attempting it until your program (winpwn) comes out with a new version.

Wow I'm so happy I could update it today.
I updated through itunes (8) and all went smoothly. It stayed unlocked and I don't miss cydia or installer cause I never used the apps from them
Everything is much more snappier and so far my battery icon is still full after 1hr 20 mins where on 2.02 it would be down by 2 notches by then. Nice work Apple its like being back on 1.1.4!

For me, I just downloaded itunes 8. And after reading the responses from pages 1-7 on this thread, I went ahead and tried what most of them were saying. I plugged in my phone and opened itunes. itunes prompted me that there was a newer version for my iphone download/cancel. So, i hit download. (its essentially the same thing as clicking 'update'. So, all I did was 'update' my phone to the 2.1 fw and BAM I have unlocked 2.1 (not jailbroken) But as soon as winpwn 2.5 beta (or some number) comes out, you can jailbreak it, unless you want to jailbreak it yourself, which to me, seemed like really annoying work that i didn't want to do.
So to answer you question, I just hit 'UPDATE' and it worked for me.
1.1.4 straight to 2.1

Managed to revive my phone and then decided to go straight from 1.1.4 to 2.1 using pwnage tool and itunes 8 (Mac). It now has all the JB stuff, it is unlocked and works like a charm!

Then hold SHIFT and click RESTORE (While holding shift!) and then restore to the custom 2.1 fw. Wait till your iphone does its thing and there you go. You do this at your own risk, I haven't used these firmware files so I don't know what is on them. If you mess up your iphone, its your fault. Lol but seriously. If you do it right, nothing bad will happen. But if it doesn't work and something does happen, download winpwn 2.5 and restore to 2.0.2 or lower. Also, go to sleepers.net and follow their winpwn 2.5 guide, there are some things you have to download, and their guide is detailed. Here is the link....

Hey guys I have 1.13 that was unlocked and jailbroken. I now want to upgrade.

A couple of things you need are these programs
For WINDOWS:
Winpwn 2.5 beta
Firmware files (.ispw) 2.0 OR 2.0.1 OR 2.0.2
Itunes 7.7
For a MAC:
Pwnage tool ANY of them.
The other files for windows, see above.
The new pwnage tool for mac is out and will jailbreak AND unlock 2.1. But if you are using windows, you cannot update to 2.1 because winpwn 3.0 isn't out yet. BUt if you update to 2.0.2 (using winpwn 2.5 beta, build a custom firmware, put iphone in dfu/recovery mode, and hold shift and hit restore, navigate to custom firmware) then hit update once 2.0.2 is unlocked jailbroken, the unlock MAY follow through to 2.1 but you will lose the jailbreak.
search youtube for 'winpwn walkthrough' and (or pwnage tool walkthrough) and they will show you. I will suggest looking at 'tysiphonehelp' and look at his video about winpwn 2.5
For goodness's sake. Are you guys High School graduates?
Select UPDATE.
This will eliminate any third party (Non APP Store) apps you have installed, but the phone will remain unlocked and activated.

UNLOCK:
This is when you would like to use your phone with another carrier, I.E. Tmobile. If you unlock your phone you will likely get the jailbreak. ALL UNLOCKING DOES is let you use the phone with another service provider. THATS ALL
Jailbreak:
THis lets you put third party apps (apps not approved by apple and non-app-store apps) onto the phone. These can include games, gameboy advanced (yes, on the iphone/itouch), videocamera. They let you make your iphone truly yours, the way you want it.
IF you are using a 2g iphone (with cingular) you don't need to worry about unlocking the phone. Just update to 2.1 and use 'quickpwn 2.1' for windows (or pwnage tool for mac) and follow the directions to jailbreak the phone.
If you are using it and you got it unlocked, just download itunes 8 and restart your computer. JUST HIT THE UPDATE BUTTON, not restore, UPDATE, and the iphone will update to 2.1 and REMAIN UNLOCKED. You will lose the jailbreak. BUT, simply use quickpwn 2.1 or pwnage tool and re-jailbreak it.

For tmobile, just download itunes 8 and install. Restart your comp. Then, all you have to do is hit update. I was on 2.0.1 and hit update, the Unlock followed through to 2.1. IF you want it jailbroken, (after you update) download quickpwn 2.1. follow the directions they give and you will get it jailbroken in roughly 10 to 15 minutes. If you have tmobile tzones web (the 5.99 internet) then the jailbreak has a 'tweak' for that to get the full edge internet for only 6 bucks. You will also have to change the APN to wap.voicestream.com (everything with internet will work except youtube) or epc.tmobile.com (this will make everything work including youtube, but stops the app store). To do that, go to Setting>general>network>APN. leave the username and password blank. FOr more info on the tzones web plan just google tzones web for iphone and look for something with 'hack' or 'mod' and it will give more info about it. Unless of course you have it, then forget about this whole little piece.

You can actually unlock your phone with pwnage tool for mac. Download the latest one. Now I'm not quite sure how to use pwnage tool (I have windows- bleh, I wish I had a mac). What I believe you will do is download the 2.1 firmware to your mac but you don't actually update to 2.1. You will use pwnage tool to build a custom firmware and then you actually RESTORE to the custom firmware you made (on windows it's SHIFT+click RESTORE, but on macs I think it's command+click, the apple button, but I think I may be wrong though, so check before doing it. Just youtube search pwnage tool 2.1 unlock or something....). Then you will have an unlocked/jailbroken iphone. (WILL NOT WORK FOR 3G. IT WILL ONLY JAILBREAK A 3G) but you said you used ziphone, which was WAY before 3g so if you are on a 2g/edge iphone, you will be fine, which I'm assuming you are. The process will take some time, as restoring usually does (for me, when I used winpwn to unlock 2.0 to 2.0.2, it took an hour and a half or so.

I may aswell make sure I've got everything. I have a 16gb 2g iphone running 1.1.3 that was jailbroken and unlocked using ziphone. I now want to upgrade to 2.1. I have downloaded quickpwn the 2 bootloaders 3.9 and 4.6 and the restore fw. Is that all I need to go from 1.1.3 to 2.1?? I will have no issues either keeping it unlocked or re unlocking and jailbreaking it??
