I never mentioned the iPad. I am referring to iPhone vs. Android. It is chock full of areas of the system where there is this darn lag. It is an incredible annoyance. On Android, on the other hand, everything is superfast and instantaneous.
Two words I have never seen when describing Android. Superfast and instantaneous. Choppy and non fluid are two words that come to my mind. :p

That’s what I’ve seen most often posted. However I do know people who are happy with their Android devices but when I’ve seen them use the phones I’ve not seen anything that would tempt me. However we all have different needs, just use what works for you. Android does not, for me.

Two clarifications:

-The time difference between the click and the scroll is how fast I can scroll from the moment the menu bar disappears. There is no input delay, unlike on the iPhones. This should be obvious from the video.

-Finally, the device is an iPad Air (5th Generation), running its original version, iPadOS 15.6.

Yeah OP, the issue isn’t the iOS version or the chipset at all, it’s the animation. The problem here is that iOS’ animation is way too slow, and iOS disallows inputs until the animation is completed.

9.7-inch iPad Pro running... iOS 12, just like the iPhone Xʀ, and since the animation is different (it just opens a new tab next to the current one instead of jumping to the bottom right like on iPhones), the input is also practically immediate.

I actually timed it! It seems like the animation to open the new tab next to the next one on iPads restricts inputs for anywhere between 0.45 and 0.53 seconds (which is completely negligible), and the animation that flies to the bottom corner on iPhones when opening a new tab consistently takes 1.86 seconds to allow me to scroll.

A pointless yet fun experiment, but the point is, 1.86 seconds is noticeable, 0.4 seconds is not.
 
Seems like you're talking about blocked inputs during animations. iOS is notorious for having to wait for animations to completely finish before you can tap the next item on the screen... especially when trying to get out of 2 or 3 menus deep in control center.

Thats very annoying. And seems to get worse.

I wonder if some things (not render blocking) are deliberate design choices by Apple.

I too also have a Samsung on android and when using it side by side with the iPhone, android feels worlds faster.

But going back to deliberate choice: the reason it feels faster is that animations and scrolling are faster paced.

Even scrolling this thread, there is much more friction on the scroll (need to swipe harder and more often) to move the same distance to the bottom.

I’m not sure the phone is actually slower, it just feels that way.

This has been my experience for atleast 4years now and chalked it up to a deliberate decision by Apple (maybe they want to court the old ppl 😀)

If you are not using android next to the iPhone then you quickly forgot and don’t notice it at all. And iOS has a ton of other benefits over android.

TBH sometimes the extra “feeling” of speed on the android also feels “cheap”. Like the screws aren’t tight enough and it free spins too much. I’d personally prefer an time somewhere in between to maintain a high end feel and have some more speed

Render blocking animations are a different story and should be fixed

The problem is on Android you can modify the animation speed, making it feel like iOS. On iOS you’re forced to accept what Apple chose for you :-(

I'm usually okay with it. The only animations that bother me are the control center ones. Particularly when you do something like long press into the Bluetooth menu and have to sit through three back-to-back input blocking animations just to close the CC.
Hey, speaking of animations, do you have that problem I mentioned a while ago ? It only appears since iOS 17, I didn't have that at all under iOS 16 (it's an iPhone 14 - so 60 Hz, for information) : https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...s.2407860/page-10?post=32671089#post-32671089
 
I wouldn't have noticed, I avoid using those sliders as much as possible and stick to the volume buttons because of that exact reason, it's hard to be precise.

As if the sound of the game or application (for example when I see a video in my Twitter timeline) replaced the sound of the keyboard keys. It's fixed as soon as I exit the application and come back to another application that doesn't use sound, although it's unpleasant. I've seen several people have had this bug for years without it being fixed...
 
What I think you might be seeing is that, on Android, it is possible to set the animation scale to .5X from the default. Last I knew, OnePlus does this by default to make their devices feel faster, but it can be enabled under the Developer Options for all. Going from Android .5X scale to whatever sanctimonious floaty and boaty unchangeable default that iOS uses (feels like 17X) makes iOS feel glacially slow by comparison, even when it really isn't.

I don't have that bug, but I do have a similar bug where the keyboard randomly becomes very loud for a few seconds. That seems to have been around for years also.

Yes. I do! In iOS 16 the control was very precise. Now it’s not anymore if I use the touch to slide. They messed up many things in 17
OMG, thank you!! I thought there were few of us who had this bug! The control center closing animation is horrible now (but only if I close control center very quickly after changing the brightness or volume). I'm sure this won't be fixed on iOS 17.2, either they don't care, or too few people are reporting this type of bug, I don't know...

I hope they will fix this someday. And they need to make the system faster. It's too slow compared to Android and the input block during animations drives me crazy. iOS is not efficient anymore.
 
I always find a DFU restore a very useful tool. Quite a lot of stuff gets corrected after peforming one.

Talking about slow animations, watchOS 10 straight up bring my Apple Watch Series 4 to a grinding halt, even tho it could easily achieve one working day battery life after replacing its battery. Those animations are so slow it makes navigating around much less enjoyable. Planned obsolescence in full display.

in ios we can set animation speed using Cowabunga App (must use PC or MAC). i set the animation to 0,2 and it make a Huuge difference.. finally i can feel the maximum snappines potential of the iPhone.. Apple should add animation speed on the phone settings like android..
