Engadget has the update that the new iPhone will be called the iPhone HD and is set to be announced June 22nd.

The writing of the update seems less speculative and more definitive then most 'rumors'. I think we all feel the same way, that this is in the bag...

I got my fingers crossed for the iPhone to get the same new OS look of the iPad and well as an HD Screen and an HD camera. 720p video recording? I think so

*UPDATE*

Engadget is now reporting Gruber's predictions that the iPhone HD will have a 960 x 640 resolution screen, the same processor as the iPad and will be running iPhone OS 4.0 with third party multi-tasking. Wow.

Hope it is true. Especially if a Zune HD type dock allows for connecting the iPhone to HDTVs.

They seriously slap "HD" to anything these days to make everything sound upgraded. BigMac HD.

bah. My contract is up now don't know if I can hold off till june cause my current cell phone is currently crapping out on me but i do say a 720P Screen would be nice...

This is awesome. I'm so pumped. But I wonder if the CDMA phone they might be producing will be the same as the one that's going to be for AT&T?

I just got my 3g in December I believe, so I am SURE I will have to pay out right for this one. Blah. Oh well, better start saving now. I mean I dont know if I will jump and get it right off the bat, because if I can have os 4.0 on my 3g I will be happy until I can afford the new one.

So I'm guessing AT&T lost their exclusivity contract or it ended? And I hope the CDMA version will be the same as the GSM, just for Verizon lol. Because I want the one that comes out first, and if the one that comes out in September will be better, I'm gonna be pissed.

If it is 960x640 how dense will the pixels be side by side? Obviously 960x640 is to big to fit in our hands but Id like to know how close the pixels are to each other

Agreed. Too much confusion between hardware and network generations. They need to drop the "G" immediately.

Not really. They've named 2 phones after the 3G network that they utilize. The 3G in the name has always referred to the network and ONLY the network.

I would not be shocked to see the 2010 phone be named 'iPhone 3G-HD.'

I'm not saying it will be, but it wouldn't be impossible.

Will I be eligible for an upgrade if I got my 3G phone in NOVEMBER 2008?

Thanks in advance.

I was talking more about the 1st generation iPhone, or the 2G as people like to call it.

Well, when you said "they need to drop the G" who is the "they?"

I has assumed you meant the "they" to mean Apple which is why I mentioned the 3G and 3GS.

But Apple never called the first one the 2G, so are you actually talking about iPhone fans needing to drop the "G?" I'm not sure they can be controlled one way or the other.

I meant Apple, obviously.

Even before the 3GS was announced/released, consumers were referring to the two available phones as the 2G and the 3G. I'm sure Apple really doesn't care about what people call them as long as they're buying them, but for the sake of us and the avoidance of redundancy I believe the next iPhone should be called something other than the iPhone xGyz or any variation of the sort.
