Either way I am getting the EVO, which I hope releases on June 6th. Announcement of the new iPhone on June 22 means it won't release until late July.

Once iPad has started shipping for the rest of the world - April - May - Apple will send out invites to a Apple Event mid May for the Next generation of iPhone for release in June - with pre-ordering

Major selling point will be a New OS ! version 4.0 and a redesigned case and with the new A4 CPU onboard - 4MP Cam and a better screen.

Milk the cow with both hands lol

Wow! 960x640? thats amazing :) Heres a sample image of a 960x640 pic for comparison

Holy cow! I would love to see how a DPI like that would look.
The only problem with using the HD labeled apps on the App-Store is that they are designed for the iPad (physically bigger screen), so the text would end up tiny and the controls would be so fiddly, the accuracy of the touch screen would have to step up considerably.

I can wait to see what they do with it.

I am on my 3rd iphone. I spent the night in line for the first iphone, and the 3g. I got them both first day out. I pre ordered the 3gs and had it first day out.

But if the iphone hd is only as described and has a little 3.7 inch screen, that is a FAIL on apples part and I will be paying less for a bigger screen, more options and sttreeming wifi to my ipad or android tablet at 10megs plus :)

Good job sprint!

Yes, the 3G went a month from announcement to release, but the 3GS went 11 days. On top of that, I believe that they would only announce it on June 22nd in order to release it on the last day of the WWDC, July 2nd. If not the 2nd, then the 9th. We don't even know if the 22nd is an official date, and the 28th (or 29th) would make much more sense, as it would be during the WWDC.

So, if the screen gets a higher resolution, wouldn't developer's need to update their Apps to fit on the new screen size AND also provide a lower resolution version of their App for iPhone 3GS owners and below?

/noob question

iPhone HD sounds like a fantastic device, would likely get me switch away from Nexus One. Spec seem great, resolution seems good(and a logical increase from the current one)

iPhone OS 4.0 would seem to bring the iPhone OS up to par on features with Android, and its UI is still worlds above IMO.

I agree. But this iPhone HD is going to need to introduce multitasking if Apple wants me to switch back to iPhone from my N1.

everyone and their moms know it will have multi-tasking. I'm curious to see what the "extra" thing is. Apple won't just add everything that the competition offers, they'll do that little something extra in hopes of blowing people away. I wonder...

You think so? Apple have raised the bar with the first iPhone (especially afer OS 2.0), but they have been sitting still for quite a while now, with only small incremental changes. Apple was going to reinvent the phone. They did that, but then they stopped doing it while the competition hasn't (Nexus One, Desire, Droid).

I also seriously wonder why Apple stepped away from the aluminum desing. HTC has an Android phone with an aluminum unibody design, it's really awesome. Guess what, it does 3G too (and it does it very well). HTC is a Taiwanese company. Not be judgmental here, but Asian companies rarely ever innovate. But even HTC is surpassing Apple in "innovation". Apple just sits back and keeps creating cheap feeling plastic fingerprint magnets, with uneven bezels, cracking cases, light leakage problems, bad screens and so on. That's not very Apple-ish. Or maybe it is?

What Apple needs to do:
- Improve screen resolution
- Major update with OS 4.0
- Add multitasking
- Bring back the aluminum (the iPad may be a hint Apple is going in the right direction).

I'd choose my iPhone 2G over the 3GS any day. No hardware problems, perfect beautiful aluminum design. Shame the hardware is outdated, but I'll never sell it.

I would guess they don't have to, the new phone should be design to be able to run app with old resolution, and it should automatically adjust to the native res size when launching an app.

I think people need to seriously stop acting like this year is the same as all other ones. Apple is one of the smartest companies in the world, they aren't blind, they know that competition is heavier than it has ever been and that the dynamics of the industry have changed drastically lately. This is a defining year in the iPhone's lifetime, I think it's cute when people try to convince themselves it won't be a big update to justify buying an Android phone now. IF you want one of those get it, but if you find that you need to constantly convince yourself of that by downplaying the iPhone or future iPhone which it seems from many posts that I see, then maybe you shouldn't.

And tell me how HTC is beating apple in innovation. Front facing camera? Been done before. Their UI is an attempt to copy apple's sans the notification system (which is probably the only innovation, and that's google not HTC) and multitasking. The big screen? That's not innovation, the high resolution? That's pushing it.

I don't think people understand what innovation is.

Because HTC are able to pull of an aluminum unibody design with exchange battery, external memory card slot, GPS, Wi-Fi and 3G without any issues. Why can't Apple? iPhone OS is great (though a bit outdated), but the hardware is just sub par imo. It looks and feels cheap. It's a shame because the iPhone 2G was really great back then, but Apple forgot to step up to their game. HTC beat Apple at their core business (= combining great software with great hardware)! How on Earth could Apple let this happen?

I'm talking about the HTC Legend btw.

according to the sales, not too many people either care or agree with your thoughts.....

iPhone OS outdated?

According to sales, Avatar is the best movie ever made and Mac OS X sucks.

And iPhone OS is outdated. It's three years old and it has only received minor incremental upgrades. The springboard is ridiculous imo, Android's widgets are much nicer. There's no multitasking, no notification system (this one really sucks), there's no full screen web browsing, etc. It's not bad, but other operating systems have surpassed it on quite a few areas (mainly Android).

My phone OS looks the same like it did 3 years ago. For the past 3 years of my life, I've been looking at the same colours. I am bored.

I've thought for a long time this was going to be called the iPhone HD. I always took the HD for recording 720p video.

Yup, that's a very plausible explanation. The display itself isn't HD, but 720p recording is HD so that justifies the name. My only concern is the screen size because 640p on just 3.5" would be a waste of resolution. I just hope it's around the 4" mark and they cut away some of that bezel to compensate e.g. HTC Desire or even the EVO 4G.

I don't think so actually. Video recording is a minor feature imo. The "3G" and "3GS" suffices were understandable since they both covered a major update. Video recording i just, meh.

I'm not talking about whether 720p recording is amazing or not. Just justifying the name from a marketing perspective. I believe it was the same thing with the Samsung Omnia HD (i.e. the display isn't HD but phone is capable of HD recording).

They should just call it iPhone 4 imo.

I seriously must LOL at this remark. Let me just throw out a couple of names out there to increase your knowledge base. HTC, MSI, Asus, Lenovo, Lian-Li, Samsung, Sony, Panasonic...

Hope it is true. Especially if a Zune HD type dock allows for connecting the iPhone to HDTVs.

They seriously slap "HD" to anything these days to make everything sound upgraded. BigMac HD.

BigMac HD?? Is that the upgraded MacMini? ;)

I hope it can give the HTC Evo a run for the money!

I hope. The info leaked doesn't have me too excited yet.

Looks no different than a regular picture. How are geeks able to tell the difference?

It's just the pixels. It has nothing to do with the picture itself. You can use it to compare your current monitors PPI with the new iPhone's PPI... well, only if you know the new iPhone's screen size.

I'm definitely going to wait until I see the official iPhone announcement, just in case.

You contradicted yourself a few times... You say that this isn't just a small update but then you say that all the things that Apple is doing is not innovation. Front facing camera, done, UI, done, Multitasking, done, big screen, done...

So what is going to be so great about the next iPhone? Also maybe you should be thinking that if all these things have been done before then why didn't Apple do it?

Everything from the original iPhone had been done before when it came out. What made the iPhone great was that it had never been done all together and not done so well. That's exactly why people are excited about these other phones. Why shouldn't they be? So the step from iPhone 3Gs to EVO 4G isn't as big as Moto Razr to iPhone... big deal. EVO 4G still tops the known upcoming devices as far as functionality and specs go. That is not to say that Apple won't pull off something amazing, which I hope they do.

I'm not really sure then what YOUR definition of innovation is. Its innovating, not reinventing as it seems you're confused with the two words.

One can say that everything Apple has done on the iphone has been done ages ago, so how is Apple innovating it?

1. Touchscreen - I was using Palm before Apple got into the phone business.
2. Multitasking - Every Winmo phones have been doing:rolleyes: it.
3. Apps - Palm OS has thousands and thousands of apps before Apple.

Can I say Apple is just copying other company's models? No, because Apple is doing it differently.

I guess Apple is also innovating by having the 3GS video record and copy and paste too huh?
