Report: More iOS than Android devices failed for the first time during the second quarter

The big headline here is that performance failures were spotted on 58% of iOS devices in the period. That is double the amount spotted in the first quarter. During the same time period, 35% of Android devices had a performance failure which means that for the first time in this history of the report, more iOS devices failed than Android devices.

65% of the iOS devices that experienced a problem in the second quarter had a problem with apps that crashed.

According to the report, apps crashed on 50% of iOS devices that went through the diagnostic test in the second quarter, compared to 23% of Android devices.

App crashing on iOS is freaking annoying. There is no warning signs, no lag or stuttering beforehand, just "POOF" and back to the home screen. Any info that wasn't saved is lost.

Nowadays I don't see app crashes on Android devices. Just an occasional lag or stutter depending on the device. But app crashes still happens more often than I like, even on the 6S plus.

I'm not recommending a Samsung flagship until they fix the software and lag situation.

1. No clue when a major release will hit flagships. And even when they tell us it's up to the carriers.

2. Samsung is Verizon's bitch! They modified/took features away from the Verizon Note 7 vs the other models. No reason other than greed.

3. A $900 Note 7 should have no more lag than a stock running Nexus. My iPhone SE runs circles around my S7. Even my 2 old Nexus 6 feels faster. So it's time to stop messing with Android if you can't keep the phone lag free.

4. The gorilla glass 5 is a horrible joke. This includes all phones but when Samsung curves the glass on the only Note device released it's near impossible to fit a good screen protector on it. So your only option is to leave it raw which the gorilla glass 5 is notorious to scratch.

So because I care about the software experience and speed I'm only getting iPhones or Nexus devices. All others can kiss my butt. I just pray that we don't have curved displays on those phones especially with that scratch prone Gorilla Glass.

Just wait another year. Apple will reward their procrastination and your patience by copying the Samsung smartphones of the last two years with OLED, all-glass design, and edge to edge screen.
This "Copying" garbage is all nonsense. Android didn't look like Android until execs saw iPhone. The copying argument doesn't fly.

Can this report be reworded somehow so it paints Samsung in a bad light please :)

It says Samsung and Apple were similar. It ALSO says that low end phones with less bloat fail less often than Samsung. It doesn't say anything for anyone really, except that Android would be a lot more stable if Samsung didn't tarnish it with garbage. If anything, it holds up our argument that Samsung ruins Android devices.

I know this year's iPhone 6se (or 7) is already outdated when the most exciting new features happens to be a capacitive Force Touch home button, water-resistance, and wireless charging which were on Android for years.

Enjoy your Apple software. Samsung owners will enjoy their better hardware like a nicer external design, 2K display, a more versatile OS, and other features iPhone will lack for the next few years. Features not correctable with a software update....

^ More forward-thinking with your storage space. What a cool concept!

screen-off-memo-feature-note-7.jpg

^ Wow! That looks more useful than Force Touch!

^ Funniest VR reaction videos always make me LOL especially the Complex video dealing with old people watching smut. I need my Final Fantasy VII and Shenmue VR game next.

No thanks, Apple. Stuck in the past. I find iPhones late 2000's and early 2010's in coolness. A new decade is upon us in less than 3.5 years and hardly any changes from iPhones the last six years. Then when they emulate Samsung, Project Valley is out. You will get rewarded with your loyalty by their procrastination and price gouging. :)

You really need to move on from a 10 year old argument my friend. Would you maybe be overlooking the documented fact that Samsung had a full touchscreen phone released before the iPhone in 2007, of course you are. You are just remembering the doctored graphic of Samsung phones before the iPhone that they conveniently forgot to put on the one the the iPhone resembled. Lol.
So... with that in mind, 10 years is ancient history, only what happen now matters. Large screen phones, large tablets with pens, mini tablets, edge displays, oled screens, is there nothing that Apple won't copy. Nope.. I didn't think so. Seems like the innovation well has run dry..

You have yourself a fine evening my friend.

Go to play store, download Google now launcher, open! . the end. It changes the visualness to what a stock Android device looks like. I don't bother as I think TW works a treat, best Android OEM overlay I've used. One caveat, the standard icons are a bit round, I change the theme to Android 6.0 material theme, the icons are very nice. Gives it a more contemporary feel.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Thank you, I used to do that when I had my Samsung phones, I quite enjoy Touchwiz also, atm I have a Motorola Nexus 6 running Nougat. My point being that I never noticed any lag or anything undesirable with this so called "bloatware." I think it is just a word that people use as some excuse.

Heaven forbid I dissect your argument sir, but.. if Apple had 58% failure rate, and all of Android had onlyn35% , how can Apple and Samsung be similar. I am not going to read the full article, I've only read the headline numbers. But from the headline, it doesn't make good reading..

Take care..

Because Samsung make beautiful hardware that is beyond question, the only nit picking that a certain section of this community can choose to have a go is software. So a carrier app is considered the devil. When in truth it's no more harmful.than the waste of space stocks app that in fests ios devices. That they choose to ignore, or the watch app that you can't delete. They are also bloatware, but conviently ignore that fact.

Peace.

You have some valid points but THIS is not one of them...

You cant even compare what samsung had to what iPhone was in 2007.
What else your gonna tell me that android would of become the same as it is now without iPhone?

We probably would still be stuck with BB type devices.

Personally...I think both Samsung and Apple have pushed eachother. Apple led the smartphone revolution in 2007 for sure. But also they were pushed to provide more features customers wanted as well. If not for Samsung the iPhone would still have a 3.5 display.
Both Android (multiple OEMs) and Apple have pushed eachother and we consumer have benefited tremendously.

At the risk of repeating myself, I'll Google it and upload a pic, among the Nokia style bricks, Samsung had a full touchscreen phone in 2007 on the market before the iPhone was released. It was probably naff, slow and rubbish. But it existed, so it's having selective memory only thinking back to select models that Samsung produced.. ps, Google produce Android, not Samsung, have a go at them if you are unhappy..

Have yourself a lovely evening my friend.

Maybe your Samsung device cut off my whole message, but I specifically said 'This "Copying" garbage is all nonsense.'

I didn't bring up the "living in the past" comparison. All i know is, when I press harder on my device's screen, an action happens.

Don't make silly arguments and then take it so personally when we call you out for your naivete.

I don't have a problem with Android. I use their devices often. The Samsung fans are sad though, because they don't know what it is like to use a well engineered device. Putting Touchwiz on a Samsung device is like pulling a trailer with a Lamborghini. It should be a well crafted, well engineered device, but they weigh it down with a big old pile of awful.

Well, I disagree that the iPhone is bulky.

Samsung makes some nice phones, but there are some misgivings I have with them which precludes them from consideration.

What to buy depends on you.

There are very good apps in the Google store to replace iMessage and other apps if you are serious about giving Android a try.

Surprising that some people are still trying to give credit to Apple for using off the shelf technology. Apple didn't invent capacitive touch nor was the first to use it. The first capacitive touch phone was the LG Prada in 2006. Unlike LG, Samsung, original Motorola, etc. that R&D and manufacture a lot of the core technologies that go into their phones Apple buys off the shelf much like Dell. Even more important than being first is getting it right. Samsung wasn't the first phablet but they got it right whereas Apple created a lemon with the iPhone 6 Plus with numerous hardware defects like failing touch sensor, bendable aluminum, inadequate DRAM, faulty NAND flash, etc. Samsung wasn't the first with capacitive touch but their implementation is one of the few if not the only that works with fingernail for when you have moist or sweaty hands that stick to glass. Samsung isn't the first with mobile payment but theirs work at more places than others. Samsung isn't first with mobile display but they're the best. Even with iris scanning no one sane is going to go spouting off that Samsung is the first when it's probably off the shelf technology.

When will Apple make an iPhone 100% in the USA where every component is build by them inside/out? More American employment. Why depend on cheap Asian labor and other manufacturers to do the dirty work? They sit on $180B of cash reserves. Maybe they can help enrich Americans' lives, the same people keeping iPhone sales afloat. They make a recipe without cooking it themselves.

The Snapdragon 820 version of the S7 edge and Note7 aren't pure Samsung. Exynos and made in South Korea is the way to go if you want pure Samsung hardware while using Google Android. Although Samsung does manufacture Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820!. The best version of Note7 is the 128gb/6gb RAM. Americans get the Qualcomm variants that might be made in China like where all iPhones are made from.

Android has 73.3% lead over iOS recently. This is Windows PC vs Mac all over again. iPhones is Apple's biggest moneymaker. Others like iPads, MacBooks, and Apple Watch make a small portion of Apple's profits. It is iPhone or bust. I have nothing against iPhone users. Half my relatives use iPhone. Why would I hate people who enjoy an mobile OS I used to enjoy? But Apple no longer thrives for innovative greatness.

For all the faults Samsung has and they do have them like software optimization, they're one of the few true OEM in the world. Real builders. They can make buildings, tanks, medical equipment, and so forth. Apple makes recipes but rely on Foxconn, TSMC, and Samsung to harvest the ingredients. Samsung actually cooks it for themselves. Self reliance. They can make a smartphone totally in-house. Real chefs in the kitchen.

Apple is a software, design, and marketing company with a bunch of patent troll attorneys and prioritize success over innovation to please stockholders. No wonder Samsung will likely get all the best components and the iPhone will get OLED reserved for only the Plus model next year. Apple can't make their own components themselves. Go ahead and diss Samsung's weaknesses. They have other advantages.

This is like hyping overrated Steph Curry for all his 3pt point range when LeBron is a better all-around player. Apple is more one-trick pony than Samsung. A true music artist can sing, write their own songs, and play an instrument. Apple can't similar to the Britney Spears of tech. Smoke and mirrors. If Galaxy S and Notes flop, guess what? Samsung are in other industries to fall back on including TV's they continue to dominate in.

Samsung fingerprints are all over gadgets we use. A bigger conglomerate than Sony ever was...

Hardware = Apple < Samsung
Software = Apple > Samsung
Services = Google > ALL
Bigger mobile profits = Apple > Samsung
More innovative = Apple < Samsung

I love Android and how it works and I love changing phones but I just find the update situation incredibly frustrating and something I wish Google would just deal with.
