Hi, Ive had my 3G for about a year and a half now didnt upgrade (3GS) like most cause ive seen no need to. But every time i pick up my Iphone im sorry to say but i just feel bored with it. Yes i have a million games, facebook, everything! It just doesent have that appeal effect like it used to.

When i first got my Iphone i felt different like "wow" im one of the very few people with this, then as time went by i started to realize wow almost every highschool kid has one and i have seen about 30% of adults with one now also. If by next year (summer) the Iphone doesent have a major software, OS, and design overhaul im dropping the Iphone and going towards say a blackberry, xperia x1, or something different than the everyday thing. Apple and teenagers have manipulated themselves into "needing" this device when really it was only them trying to fit in or be cool and now that almost everyone has one its kind of getting discusting.

I now this sounds like a giant rant of some sorts but its just how i feel.

If you want something new, try jailbreaking.

If you feel you need a device to be unique and make you cool to enjoy it then I'd be willing to bet you have bigger issues than boredom. ;)

No, but seriously, if you don't like it anymore you don't, so go with whatever you want. I'll keep my iPhone as it can do everything better than any other phone I've ever had (and I've tried a lot of them). To each his own...

First - you mean disgusting, not discusting.

Your rant is sophomoric at best.

Did you buy the iPhone to be different/cool yourself and are now mad they are so prevalent?

Personally - I bought the iPhone because it fulfilled all my needs as opposed to other phones on the market which I did own. I could give a rat's behind what anyone else in the world is using to communicate. The iPhone, for me, does exactly what I need it to (well - 95 percent lol).

Sounds to me like you are being hypocritical. You want to be unique in owning an iphone so you can be what? Cool? And yet you are looking down on the people who just want to be cool and bought an iPhone.

Get over it. If you're bored - get a new phone. My iPhone and other electronic devices don't define who I am. Nor do I get bored with them because they serve their function. Their job isn't to keep me "interested" - they're job is to serve a function - play music, videos, make calls, send/rec email, etc.

Why do people feel cool when they have something that others don't and when it becomes popular they get upset that others have it.

I was also expecting this to be a Spaz thread :p

Thats a great achievement for Apple. :)
Research shows that users get bored with most consumer electronic devices including phones within 30 days. After that point, the novelty wears off and they stop exploring new features or getting excited about the device.

Are you related to TheSpaz by chance?:p

Anyways, to me the iPhone isnt a entertain device. It is a phone with many capabilities. Some i dont use a lot, some i do. I dont think of it in the way you apparently do. I guess some just think of it as a toy instead of a phone that just does a ton of stuff.

I dont know, im never bored with it. Just glad i have it when i need something.

i have NEVER understood why people dont like others having the same thing

Me neither, because it makes no sense. It's as silly as basing one's preference for something on it being popular. Either way, OP, you're basing your decision on what everybody else is doing.

I was bored with my phone too. It doesn't do any thing special any more. It just rings and I can hear people talking through it. In the past when Graham Bell had not long invented it, it was something unusual. Now everyone has one.

I'm not going to quote anybody because my reply is directed at more than a few and applies to more than just this thread.

Why do you feel the need to be an a**hole when somebody comes in here and gives their opinion?

He didn't say he wanted to "be the only one with an iPhone because it made him feel cool". He said when he bought it he didn't see as many in the wild as he does these days. When you did see them, they were in the hands of the older crowd because of the high cost. So yeah, maybe you felt a little exclusive. I know I did. But I'm pretty damn sure OP didn't give this as the reason he was thinking about giving up his iPhone.

To the poster suggesting jailbreaking, thanks for being welcoming and civilized. I've seen so many newbs come in here with a question/opinion and get flamed straight off the forums. It's too bad so many people are rude around here because it does draw a huge amount of traffic. People come here for help and get ridiculed.

Sorry for the rant. It just gets tiring seeing the same thing over and over. Bring on the "if you don't like it, use another forum" replies. I know how much everybody loves to use that solution around here.

OP: I went through the same thing you did about a month ago. I made the mistake of trading my iPhone for a Bold because I was sick of the iPhone and thought that's what I wanted. I used that phone for two days and it's now in it's box in my closet, replaced by the 32GB 3GS I went out and bought.

If you're going to change phones **DO NOT** get rid of your iPhone until you're sure you've found something that replaces it completely. You'll regret it and the money it costs you to fix the mistake.

This is a big reason why a lot of people rush just download even a beta version of an update to their phone. So they can have something different but then complain if there are bugs and things arent working right. Go figure.

Jailbreaking does add a lot to the phone as well even if i dont need or want 90% of whats in it but you can waste a lot of time trying things out ;)

Lostprophet. I don't need to be paranoid as I know your comment was directed at me (not just me.. but that's ok)

But did you read the entire first post? Because we all did and the OP does want to feel as special as he did when he was the only one who owned it. Why else would you write "Apple and teenagers have manipulated themselves into "needing" this device when really it was only them trying to fit in or be cool and now that almost everyone has one its kind of getting discusting."

Why is the OP disgusted? 80 percent of his post is in reference to having the phone few others did.

As I said - whether you find it helpful or not was quite clear and perhaps of use to the OP. Is a device's purpose to entertain you or provide functionality? When it's the former - perhaps you're looking for too much as ANY device will eventually become "boring." If it's the latter - than it can never be boring because as long as it serves it's function - it's exactly what it needs to be.

Does your microwave become boring? Your toilet? Your dvd player? Your air conditioner?

Just saying that what you might see as people being "aholes" is more like clear and rational thinking about what we "demand" of our devices.

The OP's comments are perfectly understandable.

Let's face it, kids usually do get tired of their toys! ;)
