I'm not going to quote anybody because my reply is directed at more than a few and applies to more than just this thread.

Why do you feel the need to be an a**hole when somebody comes in here and gives their opinion?

He didn't say he wanted to "be the only one with an iPhone because it made him feel cool". He said when he bought it he didn't see as many in the wild as he does these days. When you did see them, they were in the hands of the older crowd because of the high cost. So yeah, maybe you felt a little exclusive. I know I did. But I'm pretty damn sure OP didn't give this as the reason he was thinking about giving up his iPhone.

If the OP doesnt want responses of that nature, then dont post a thread of this nature

not a hard concept

Wow, OP has a very sad outlook on life.

This is one of the most pathetic topics ive read in a long time. No offense but you sound like a brat who's bored because he's no longer "unique"

There are many acronyms which have multiple functions, and ETA meaning "Edited to Add" has been around for at least a decade. In fact, there are literally dozens of meanings for ETA, some general and some more limited in use. You should try to be less judgmental.

wow. a whole decade? I'm impressed.

u do realize how ignorant u sound, right? ETA has meant 'estimated time of arrival' for literally hundreds of years. ur telling them to be less judgemental, ur just sounding like a hypocrite

I did not say that "Estimated Time of Arrival" was not first; I am merely saying that "Edited to Add" is a well-established usage, especially on the Internet. I do not think it is judgmental to point out that fact; I do, however, think it is judgmental to label anyone who uses an alternative meaning for the acronym "an idiot."

Don't worry. The reason the Razr got played out was because they didn't update it or anything. Now, Apple has the ability to weed out the unworthy with annual hardware updates.

I don't buy anything to be "cool". I never heard of anyone paying $100 a month for a $200 handset to be cool. It's a great device that is on top of the world of other boring smartphones.

If you want something new, try jailbreaking.

I have been thinking about jailbreaking but I want an Apple product. I know that i would spend hours and hours modded the **** out of it and I don't have time for that.

What do you mean about having an apple product?
Who says you have to mod it all the time. I haven't changed themes or anything too radical in over 2 months. I surely spend more time on MR than I do modding my phone, plus sitting on the toilet is the perfect time to do modding :D

...im dropping the Iphone and going towards say a blackberry...

Wow, you're bored of the iPhone and you now want to move onto the MOST boring smartphone on the market.... the Blackberry. Good luck with that snoozefest. Emailing on that bad boy is a dream though!

Edit: I see you mentioned the Xperia as well. Read the reviews, way too expensive for what it offers.

Are you two really arguing over the meaning of an acronym? I didn't know what his usage of ETA meant, so I looked it up... Something that should be the obvious thing to do for a mac rumors member.

Back to the OP

I too get bored with cell phones... In the last 12 months, I have went from an LG Chocolate > BB Pearl > T-Mobile G1 > Nokia E71 > T-Mobile G1 and in a few days, I will finally (hopefully) settle on the iPhone. I have learned that a phone doesn't need to be "fun" and "exciting" for the entire time you have it. As long as it does what you need it to do, and it does it in an effective an efficient manner, you should be content with your device.

P.S.
Phone's shouldn't be used as status symbols, nor should you be choosing your phone based on what the majority of people do/do not have.

When i first got my Iphone i felt different like "wow" im one of the very few people with this, then as time went by i started to realize wow almost every highschool kid has one and i have seen about 30% of adults with one now also. If by next year (summer) the Iphone doesent have a major software, OS, and design overhaul im dropping the Iphone and going towards say a blackberry, xperia x1, or something different than the everyday thing.

The problem is you're buying these phones for their looks and "be different" cool factor. The new bells and whistles features will eventually grow stale on you especially if you don't have a use for it. You will eventually get tired of it regardless of which phone you will use if you choose this route. Pick a phone that suits best what you need and you'll never grow tired of it.

Suggestion: If you text msg a lot--> find the most comfortable and easiest to type phone for you--> ask mom and dad for more money to by some diamond studs--> stick diamonds on phone with some crazy glue with desired pattern--> BAM!!!! unique, cool, functional.

Believe me, you will never see another phone like yours until you graduate highschool.

Apple and teenagers have manipulated themselves into "needing" this device when really it was only them trying to fit in or be cool and now that almost everyone has one its kind of getting discusting.

Are you talking to yourself again?

thanks for the responses guys im not trying to be cool or anything like that i could care less i just clearly stated that the iphone is boring me. And yes i do have a jailbroken ipod and all the themes are terrible. I just get tired of this iphone fast and the 3GS dissapointed me without an upgrade at all hardly. If the next iphone isint upgraded drastically im going to some different phone as stated earlier.

It seems to me that you pay attention to what other people are using, and you clearly got some joy out of being one of the 1337 with an iPhone

no i just think the iphone is overall getting boring i look around and see the same old thing like wheres the exclusitivity in phones nowadays?

Hi, Ive had my 3G for about a year and a half now didnt upgrade (3GS) like most cause ive seen no need to. But every time i pick up my Iphone im sorry to say but i just feel bored with it. Yes i have a million games, facebook, everything! It just doesent have that appeal effect like it used to.

I now this sounds like a giant rant of some sorts but its just how i feel.

I did not buy an iPhone so that it could keep me busy when I am bored. I have friends for that. My iPhone is a tool; it stays in my pocket and I only pull it out if I need to use it as a tool. If I need to use the GPS maps to find the closest In-N-Out Burger, or if I need the phone number for a local store to ask them what time they close, that is when I take my iPhone out of my pocket. If I need to Google something or look up a word in the Dictionary App or Wikipanion, then I take my phone out of my pocket. It is a tool. I also use it for text messaging and phone calls and email (along with many other things, like stocks, weather, traffic info, etc, etc). I did not buy an iPhone to keep me from getting bored. I have friends. The iPhone is a tool. It stays in my pocket unless I have a need for it.

However, despite my standpoint here, I am going to recommend that you find some good video games for the iPhone to keep you entertained. There is also Twitter. There is also the camera and pron. And now there's the Flickr App. Also, Cool Iris App. Between Flickr and Cool Iris and searching for "sexy....," there is no way in hell you could be bored. Just whip it out (the iPhone that is), and let your eyes get wide. :)
Hell, use your iPhone's Safari browser to go to Match.com and eHarmony and find yourself a girlfriend. I don't think you will get bored with that. :D (in that case, the iPhone will be priceless)

You contradict yourself. Either you want your phone to be something nobody else has (i.e., to be cool) or you don't.

If the next iphone isint upgraded drastically im going to some different phone as stated earlier.

What exactly do you want that the iPhone doesn't have? You admit that other phones don't have the functionality of the iPhone; is it all about styling? Do you just want a phone that looks different from everyone else's?

I don't think this dude knows what he wants.

This dude for some reason reminds me of a less-articulate TheSpaz.

OP...
The iPhone is (arguably) the best smartphone, so you are going to see people with it.

Do you also get sick and tired of seeing people running windows and mac os x? Everywhere you look, people are using windows or mac os x on their laptops. If they don't introduce some amazing features in their next versions, are you gonna abandon ship and switch to linux full time? I don't think so.

at 201 apps and counting....I've kept things interesting for myself like that. I'm usually checking BeejiveIM and FB. I text all day, browse the app store, and look for updates. Read up on the news in AP, play new games like Modern Combat:Sandstorm, manage school work with iStudiez Pro, look up info in Yelp, manage notes with Awesome Note. At school, I frequently use the Wordbook dictionary and Wikipanion+ apps. Transfering photos with PhotoToMac is awesom, and editing photos with Photogene and ColorSplash is great too. I'm always looking up info in the yellow pages app, and managing my BofA account with their official app. And then theres AppBox Pro, and System Activity Monitor .... So, no my iphones definitely not becoming boring to me, and with annual upgrades and software updates, the flare never dies. By the time I get used to a 3GS, theres a 4th gen model on it's way.

Been an iPhone owner since February 2008, and I still love this device. Some of my friends have G1's, Hero's, etc, and I tried them to see what they brought to the party.
Notifications and the Hero's keyboard aside, they had nothing that I didn't want.

I really enjoyed reading some of the carefully written and wise posts here. However, I would add a recommendation to get away from needing material things to keep you from being bored.
Enjoy yourselves folks (and I mean that literally). You are alive! What could be more entertaining, astounding, complex, intriguing, ...?

To be honest, I am about to get my first iPhone in a month or so. I love it already and I do not even possess it yet (I know how great its gonna be cause I have an iTouch 1G since a year and half).
That's just to admit that material things can add a bit of enjoyment to your life, if you are able to enjoy your life by itself to begin with.
Can spices make a bland piece of meat tasty? I dont think so...

(I dont know if that delivers the message like I intended to, my English is not perfect...)

Would changing the color of it help you feel better?
