Apple is just leaving money on the table by not making an iPhone SE 2.

There's a market for budget phones (though I hope Apple makes the SE 2 more of a premium device), and there's a market for smaller phones.

I don't want a mini-tablet in my pocket, I want a mini-phone. I don't like consuming any media on my phone because I know the experience is always better on a bigger screen, and content consumption on a phone is a compromise.

p.s. Hopefully if the SE 2 ever happens, it retains the headphone jack.

Hopefully if the SE 2 ever happens, it retains the headphone jack.

That depends. If Apple retains the same form factor with the current iPhone SE with an upgraded display, processor, etc., then it might retain the headphone jack because it would not require them changing the chassis altogether.

However, I don’t believe Apple is going to include the headphone jack on any future iPhones for multiple reasons. If Apple includes a water resistant rating with the new iPhone SE 2 if it releases, then it likely will not included the 3.5 mm Jack. Also, by Apple not including the 3.5 mm Jack on a possible SE2, would be another way for them to use the AirPods as a selling point is they did the other iPhone models. But then again, altogether, I question if an SE 2 will ever happen or not.

Based on what the Apple what three Apple executives have stated below in agreement to not favor the 3.5 Jack and the other possibilities I listed above, I don’t see a future for the 3.5 mm Jack being retained. Apple Wants the AirPods to be a gateway in place of the 3.5 mm Jack, and they’re going to continue to do that by not including it.

Steve Joswiak from Apple stated:

The audio connector is more than 100 years old," Joswiak says. "It had its last big innovation about 50 years ago. You know what that was? They made it smaller. It hasn't been touched since then. It's a dinosaur. It's time to move on."

Phil Schiller stated:

According to Apple's Phil Schiller, there's no ulterior motive behind the move away from the 3.5mm headphone jack. "We are removing the audio jack because we have developed a better way to deliver audio. It has nothing to do with content management or DRM -- that's pure, paranoid conspiracy theory," he said.”

Dan Riccio stated:

“For Dan Riccio, Apple's senior vice president of hardware engineering, the iPhone's 3.5-millimeter audio jack has felt something like the last months of an ill-fated if amicable relationship: familiar and comfortable, but ultimately an impediment to a better life ahead. "We've got this 50-year-old connector -- just a hole filled with air -- and it's just sitting there taking up space, really valuable space.”

New rumour: 0,2 inch larger screen (to 4,2 inch), A10 chip (same as iPhone 7), announcement at WWDC, June 2018.

What do you think? Is it reliable?

nvm: already posted by Macrumors.

A new form factor for a dying segment? I would say it's very unlikely.

It seems to be a rehash of an old rumor. I'm surprised MacRumors picked up on such a sketchy source but then again, yesterday was a slow news day.

I know my relatives would like a new SE. They are not iPhone aficionados but the iPhone SE has been perfect for them; an upgrade for them would be good for both them and me (the one who fixes their phones)...

The most reliable analyst is Ming Kuo, he predicted that an iPhone SE2 would not be refreshed because Apple is focusing their resources on the other three iPhones (6.1 LCD5.8/6.5 X) for development.

If it is refreshed, I actually hope it launches in a spring Keynote perhaps in March versus June WWDC.

Youre pretty easy to entertain :)

I am a pushover, but my license plates from my motorcycle 32 years ago did say "IM EASY". Pic taken just now.

I'm actually thinking about buying the iPhone SE... but with the 2 being just around the corner (supposedly) I'll give it a wait for another month or so to see how this pans out.

Really miss the small form factor and don't wanna buy the 8 since I don't think it's worth the value it's being sold at here in Europe (€650 brand new).

So yeah, a faster processor, better camera(s) & slightly bigger battery would be enough to make me go back to the smaller phone. Don't care about the design, as long as they keep the fingerprint sensor.

Getting tired of my Galaxy S8, it's a great phone and all but too many quirks to get around with it lately.

Undoubtedly it would retain touch ID. The reason being, is Face ID would raise the price point of the SE, which was one of the main attractive points for an entry-level iPhone. Also, I’m not sure Face ID would have any type of physical limitations with a 4 inch display.

nice watch... much better than the Apple Watch....

Thanks! This Titanium Omega Planet Ocean 9300 is one of my favorite watches and gets a lot of wrist time. It'll keep running after the Apple Watch dies because it's an auto-winder. I mostly use the AW as a fitness tracker on my other wrist (got black AW so it would not stand out, an often wear AW on the inside of my wrist on black mesh).

Apple is also leaving money on the table not selling Apple branded televisions, wireless cameras, drones, and countless other things.

Apple products are driven by how it thinks technology should be used by consumers. It doesn't make something just because there's a market for it. With the way iOS 11 has been and the larger iPhone and iPad products, smaller phones don't seem to be in Apple's plans.

I think the iPhone SE was in their plans, but they just don’t place a lot of emphasis or priority on updating a 4 inch iPhone when there’s not a massive demographic for it. Apple understands the smart phone market better than anybody else, and they didn’t have to release the SE to begin with, but they obviously did so as an entry-level iPhone with a cheaper price point, but also for countries like India as well.

The SE was a smart introduction and I don't believe Apple knew it would be a success - or at least to the extent that it has been.

If there is another one, I think it could take a 4.7" screen as people migrate more and more to larger devices. The iPhone 8 appears small to me, neat and compact and a joy to use - it's small enough already but forgive me, I've lost track mid-sentence, perhaps I'm saying Apple should introduce a cheaper 4.7" device and have an A10 and call it the new SE., trying not to cannibalise its own sales too much.

If any of that made sense, please let me know, I've been ill lately.

This was Apples initial feedback on the SE after it was available to the public, also a very good article discussing the SE more in detail.

https://www.macworld.com/article/3062574/apple-phone/the-iphone-se-a-surprise-hit.amp.html

Apple blew it when it came to its forecasts for how well the iPhone SE would sell. Right now, “overwhelming demand” for the the iPhone SE means that Apple can’t make them fast enough—that used to happen all the time, but it’s been a while since Apple has been behind on iPhone supply.

And Cook owned up to it. “It is clear that there is demand there, even much beyond what we thought, and so that is really why we have the constraint that we have,” he said. More specifically, Cook suggested that Apple underestimated the number of people who “wanted the latest technologies, but wanted it in a more compact package.”

I took the plunge and went ahead and got the 4.7" iPhone 8. The 4.7" feels very pocketable and compact already to me, with great updated internals, which I doubt the SE2 can match, especially at a subsidized price of $360CDN through Freedom Mobile. The smaller battery shouldn't impact me much, as I'll be mainly using it for phone calls, and have with me the 8 Plus for data only usage.

It's a beastly little monster, I'm loving it! :D Now, if the SE2 comes with FHD then maybe I might regret picking this up today.

That is still true in a sense. Having a compact phone that can be held in the hand is great.

Enjoy it - it's one of my favourite devices - the only one I've ever bought a leather red Apple Edition case for. I like the gold and red although the latter nearly completely covers the former.

It’s funny you mentioned the Apple red leather case cause I just picked one up at Bestbuy on clearance for $19.97, and it definitely is gorgeous, but yeah it completely over shadows the beautiful gold scheme on the 8. I plan on getting a Spigen clear case from Amazon for when I feel like showcasing its natural beauty.

That sounds a good idea. I also have the battery smart cover from when I had my 7 (although black) and an aqua blue cover for my 8, but would like some type of clear case, also

This past week I sold my iPhone 7 256GB Matte Black and got an iPhone SE 64GB Space Grey ... after trying Sony Xperia Z5 Compact again for 4 days.

Firstly I can now fully state, as a former SonyEricsson fan ... Sony you're the best Android could offer me but it's just not good ... I HATE Android. I haven't been this frustrated with ANY phone since the Motorola Q9h - which lasted 1full week!

Now with the SE, having previously used the 6/6S/7 over the last 1.4 years ... the screen is too small, for me. I don't doubt this serves a great market and the nostalgia of the 5S had me very curious ... typing on the SE after having the 6S and 7 as my daily driver really shows it's weak spots.

Typing
- no where near as accurate.
3D Touch
- once you actually use this to correct spelling mistakes or website url editing or quick pop-ups for information you then realize just how useful this is. I kept pressing on this SE to the point of squeezing the unit to correct SMS typos almost 100x in a day.
LTE & WiFi
- Browsing speed and the long time it takes to acquire a default gateway from public Wi-Fi hotspot ... is very slow. it's not supposed to be yet it is.
3.5mm Headset Jack
- I don't own any headphones that use this jack ... so I don't require it nor have any loyalty to this.
Weight
- SUPER LIGHT! I completely forgot just how light the 5S was and the SE is pretty much the same weight ... like air in my pants ... has me constantly checking it's in my pocket.

Now the debate in my head wages on ...
iPhone 8 or iPhone X (the price difference BNIB/Contract for 64/256GB between the 2 is negligible really. Further I have the 8 for work already. Maybe I should return to the 7 via the rarity on Kijiji and wait until the newer iPhone late September or October? Also I need to get another AppleWatch Nike+ this time the S3 my workouts are lacking.
