Likely correct - it’s still good for Apple to have a lower priced iPhone available to secure some of that market from its competitors.
Yes, I agree. Smartphone shipments will be down overall but people still need phones and among Apple's line up, this is probably going to be the most attractive as people tighten their belts.

I've been waiting for this since last year and like I mentioned, I'm buying a couple myself to replace 4 year old phones. Right now, sometimes my iPhone 7 just goes from 100% to 0% and needs to be plugged in to turn on at which point it shows 100% again. 😓

Don’t get it looks like a 8, bezels, home button etc, who wants that?
Lets revisit this after the phone has been released for six months and lets see then shall we?

EDIT: Just to clarify, my money's on the new SE or whatever it's gonna be called, being a big success...

The previous SE was pretty successful with lots of forum members liking it a lot - and that was based on the shell of the iPhone 5. So it’s proven that people were ok with an even older design then, and they might as well be ok this time around.

Yup, that's what I was referring to, the original SE has a cult-like following, it was definitely a huge success and I don't see why this phone wouldn't be a success as well. You're getting a great bang-for-the-buck. The fellow I quoted, doesn't seem to understand that not everyone sees things like he/she does based on his/her history of posts.

The only surprising thing about SE2 is the 256GB storage option. It's an additional SKU that Apple will have to carry. How many are willing to pay $150 for 256GB storage? The 256GB option was discontinued on the XR and 8.

In terms of launch day, there was no chance it would be today. It's Saturday in the country with the world's biggest smartphone market. That's the only market where it's entering full recovery stage.

At $449, it's a little more expensive than hoped but Apple is launching on schedule. I would expect it to have wireless charging and XR camera at this price.

Do the Chinese even buy the older design iPhones? I remember reading a post from someone over there saying it's pretty much buy Chinese brands which offer more bang for the buck on the lower end of the price scale while those who go for iPhones tend to opt for the high end.

Is $449 confirmed yet? Hmm, might need to downgrade to 128GB if the 256GB option is going to cost ~$700 after tax.

From my experience, it will attract some students and seniors. The branding is still very strong. But it is an uphill battle for Apple because for the same price, they could buy a full-fledged 5G device.

Gurman believes it will be $449.

I’ve read this as well in the past.

It’s interesting you keep saying it will have XR camera. I’m genuinely curious about your reasoning for this.

There were no precedents of Apple putting not the latest available camera tech on their Phones, this includes OG SE.

Honestly I can’t wrap my head around why they would want to cripple the product with such a move. Like you said yourself, the competition offers a lot at this price point. Multiple cameras, bezelless oled displays, even 5G. You really think that releasing a phone with 2014 design in 2020 isn’t “punishing” enough already for a $400-450 Apple model, camera needs to be inferior too in addition to being single?

1) I think the times are a little different. When the iPhone SE was launched, the iPhone 6s wasn't selling too well. If you recall, the 6s was the first time Apple iPhone sales slumped.

2) On the other hand, the iPhone 11 is selling better than expected. Also, the iPhone 11 costs $699 while the iPhone 6s was $649. Is Apple willing to put their $699 camera tech in the SE2?

3) We know the SE2 Plus exists and it's likely late 2020 early 2021. Given it's already in iOS 14 code, late 2020 seems more likely. In that case, it seems more likely that model will have iPhone 11 camera tech.

Based on these factors, it seems less likely to me that Apple will include the iPhone 11 camera. I don't believe in strongly in either; I think it's a 60/40 probability it will be XR/11 rear camera.

Looking forward to giving this a look when it comes out. Small phones are hard to come by and I much prefer them. Also really liked my 7 , the size was perfect and this will be the same with upgraded internals. Plus no Face ID, a real home button, win/win for me. I’m hoping it’s not going to be slippery as a wet fish to hold like the rest of the glass backed phones. Don’t see why they can’t do a matte backside. Don’t need wireless charging anyway if that’s the only reason to be glass backed.

I love my 6S, and if I had to upgrade in the next few years, this would probably be the one I go for.

Not officially released yet?

I give it two weeks, It would be somewhat in line with John Prosser‘s logic as well. My belief is, this phone has the potential to launch anytime {before} WWDC in June, but there are so many variables right now due to the pandemic, I think even the most reliable analysts are not sure at this point.

It will be released mid-April for sure, makes no sense to delay it any further.

A lot of people prefer TouchID over FaceTime.

That being said, I couldn't wait for a new phone so I picked up an iPhone 7 a couple weeks ago for $150 and it's working just fine.
