Well, software issue would definitely be preferable to hardware issue... Still not sure how to handle this at the Apple Store tomorrow though... It seems pointless to swap it out once more to just have the same thing happen again.
I'm in the same boat, the geniuses tend to look at you like your mad if you seem to have any technical knowledge and insist it's not just a faulty handset and a replacement is a waste of everyone's time. No doubt i'll be told to restore from new and see how you go which is soul destroying. The phone is essentially not fit for purpose due to the intermittent restarts

I can't understand why this would not affect the iPhone 13 series which is the same SoC, the SE doesn't have any custom hardware, it's the same logic board

Report it on Apple Feedback or give Apple Support a call. If it were me I would open a case with Apple Support.

I recently picked up SE 2022 on launch day and since then I've counted 4 completely random hard lock ups and restarts

The phone stops responding, screen goes blank, home button stops responding and the phone subsequently restarts.

I'm hoping it's not hardware related, I restored from my original SE 2020 backup, so possibly that might be causing some aberrant behaviour but unlikely

Has anyone had this issue with the new SE 2022? :(
Me (I found this ploblem for 4 time since I bought it)
April 4th = I purchase this iPhone SE from shop
April 9th = 1st time of panic
April 10th = 2nd time of panic
April 12th = 3rd time of panic
April 13th = 4th time of panic
*****I try to restore the device via Finder everytime after my phone restart itself

And everytime after my phone restart itself. My phone will show at the same panic code

"panicString": "panic (cpu 1 caller Oxffff*f02183d218): DCP PANIC

But I already contact to Apple Support and I will send my phone back to take a diagnostic with Apple Technician soon

Ps. Sorry for my bad english

Same kernel panic as everyone else is having.

I had my SE 2022 crash and restart once. That was awhile ago.

Everything has been fine since except for when I went to one web page to see the old Bewitched House floor plans (was trying to see if what I remembered from the show was accurate) and my phone had a freak out with the screen flashing and all the haptics going off like crazy. I had to click on the home button to get back to the Home Screen and delete the Duck Duck Go browser app and reinstall it because the screen was unresponsive while this was going on. I actually don’t know what I would have done without a physical home button!

I don’t know if that’s a kernel panic but I sure as hell panicked!

It was probably a dodgy site. (Just web search on Bing “Bewitched House floor plans” and it’s one of the first few that comes up).

Just got back from the Apple Store where they ran the diagnostics and it all came up fine. They were really nice as always but said they cannot ask for it to be repaired as their system says it's not broken... He suggested I anyway take another replacement as I'm still within my 14 day return window so now I've got my third unit still sitting here in its box. I figure that tomorrow I am going to start off with a full restore (upgrading to 15.4.1) and then set it up as new. Not sure whether I should just do the simple restore from the Finder or whether I should first put it in either recovery or DFU mode. I don't know what difference it would/could make, maybe someone here has a better idea?

If the phone came installed with 15.4.1 then you don’t need to do anything other then set it up as a new device.

I found this thread while searching for info on this problem. For anyone wondering why this doesn’t affect the iPhone 13, I have to disappoint you… My iPhone 13 Mini has had 3 full kernel panics (reboot - apple logo) since updating to 15.4.1 last week. Without warning the screen will turn off and the phone reboots. But no freezing or apps slowing down. It just trips and falls flat on its face.
I have experienced zero problems before this update and have had the phone since October ‘21, so it’s seen plenty of use.
I do hope Apple fixes this soon….

Have you tried restarting? What about turning on the phone without SIM card inside?

3 days after factory reset the problem appears again on my SE3…
After it restarts, within few hours there’s problem with Reachability, need to press the home button harder (but not to hard it clicks) for it to trigger… does anyone experience this Reachability problem too?

I'm really sorry you are having trouble with this dreaded bug as well. I didn't check for any issues with Reachability unfortunately. Will do so should the phone decide to shutdown again. Did you contact Apple Support? I think it's really important that we all do as they just won't know how widespread this is otherwise. I really do love this phone and I am counting on them to find a fix for this... Good luck to all!

I did contact Apple Support after the previous shutdown.. they did a remote diagnosis but didn’t seem to find any problem… they suggest to bring to apple’s physical store to have a check… unfortunately there’s no official “Apple Store” in Malaysia (only have “authorized reseller”), even the apple support advisor was calling from singapore.. I’m afraid that I need to send my phone to Singapore, as it would take 2 weeks to get it back & I have no other spare phone to be used right now… I really hope that it’s a software issue and it will be solved in the next iOS (perhaps 15.5) update, as I experience this panic during both 15.4 and 15.4.1…

I feel your pain. I'm not sure sending it in to Apple for a diagnostic would anyway do much to help. I brought both phones to the local Apple Store here, they ran all the tests and said that they all came up fine, so no problems found. I think what could be useful is to send them the entire panic-full log file, and mention to them that you are not the only one with this issue. In addition to this site, there are also various threads on Reddit, plus I found sites in China and India as well, all are users with the exact same 'Outbox not ready' panic file. We can only hope that a tech will forward this info to the right department at Apple, and then they can work on a software fix for this... but first they have to know about it. I'll do this as well, but the more people report it, the better for sure.

Just chiming in to say I’ve also experienced this. Started happening on my launch day SE3 about 10 days after I bought it. Happened a few more times so I returned it within 14 day return window.

Have had a second one for a few days and haven’t had the issue yet but will report back if I do.

Ok in the last week I’ve had my SE, while already off, fail to awaken and then I can feel the home button go dead and unresponsive and the power button does nothing. Then it reboots on its own, I guess or perhaps as a result of me frantically pushing the buttons.

It has also happened a couple of times when I was using the camera and surfing the web.

Is this the kernel panic problem? I had it happen twice yesterday. I am way past any kind of return period. So I’m going to have to find some other way to get a handle on this. Otherwise, I really love this phone. It’s been great except for this one thing.

Mine went unresponsive once- black screen, not waking up, etc. It didn't restart on it's own but I force restarted it as soon as I noticed the problem so maybe it would have restarted if I'd left it alone. It only happened once but I did install 15.5 beta after that though, so maybe it's a weird bug that got fixed?

Thanks for the info. I’m hoping this can be fixed for me with the update once it goes out of beta. I’m a little concerned because it went from occasionally to almost daily and even twice on one particular day.

Yup, almost certainly the kernel panic problem.

Touch wood, but mine (SE 2022, 128GB Starlight) just doesn't do that. I'm on 15.4.1. Since I bought it, the only times the phone has restarted have been when installing software updates. I wonder if the panics could be app related? I used to have a problem with daily kernel panics on my MBA which was something to do with Creative Cloud... I don't know if it's possible to tell on an iPhone. Maybe, if everyone could 'compare notes' on models, settings, and installed apps, some kind of common element would emerge? I guess that would be tiresome to do, though...

Hello

Thought I would chime in here...

I am now on my 5th SE 3.

Suffered from the same Kernel Panic on the SE3 on launch day and then all replacements phones suffered from the Kernel Panic and most of the same "symptoms" of other users (dead home button, blank screen, reboot etc etc)

For the above user, i do not have any non apple apps on my phone I don't even have an apple id. I only have a few of the stock apps such as phone, messages, health, camera etc etc. Just the main ones so don't think the apps are the issues as I delete most of them.

I am having some luck on this current SE3, I have had it about a week and no Kernel Panics as yet, now this could be luck or something with IOS 15.4.1. This phone I have not updated to IOS 15.4.1 and left it on 15.4 and there has been no kernel panics (touch wood)

I have noticed another issue and would appreciate anyone elses feedback..

On the 1s, 4th and 5th replacement iphone, I have noticed there is a "StorageStatus" log in diasgnostics and this will not dissapear if I reset the iphone to factory to defaults it re-appears again. A lot of jargon in the log with things like NAND.Fail but then NANDRestoreSuccesful etc etc. Lots of zeros in it, but it only appears that once. There seems to be a lot of posts on various forums about memory failture etc etc. But seems strange to have numbers in a row from different factorys and also different stores etc etc.

Also the 1st one on launch day was made on 1st march and the latest was on 13th march so almost two weeks apart so seems a little odd and its not giving me any grief. Plus I don't want to return it as im sure the next one will be the same.

But you always worry with the Kioxa contamination...

Anyone else noticed this log?

Also there is an ams_engagement one whenever i turn on/off the phone, but I think that has to do with the hotspot data settings as it has the wrong apn...

Interestingly, I've had one weird shutdown (unprompted, phone left alone and appeared to be switch itself off). So wasn't sure what had happened, but I can imagine this might be related.
