I'm interested in getting one to play with as a hobbyist programmer but apple ties everything in their ecosystem together, meaning you can't develop for iOS without a mac os device. Cost of everything is too much.

If the rumors are correct that the SE 4 will start at $500, I think it will be a sales disappointment. For the budget shopper these phones have historically been targeted at, $500 is not affordable or a bargain in my opinion. Especially if it's a 64GB. You're talking ~$650 for the 256GB after taxes. I think the current SE price of $429 is more psychologically appealing, especially if it has 128GB.

Remember that when the iPad 10th gen came out, the 64GB was priced at $450 which was sticker shock for a lot of people in comparison to the 9th gen.

I also would be surprised if it has 8GB RAM + AI because at $500 I believe it would cannibilize the iPhone 15 which I don't expect Apple to discontinue until the fall.

It will have 128GB storage for the base model, anything less will be a joke, and it should cost less than $\€500 to attract more budget customers.

As with pretty much all of Apple's products 500$ will automatically translate to 600€, at the very least. So pricing in Europe would be much less appealing by default. Especially when you can get Samsung Galaxy S24 for 550€.

You're right about the European prices, but I always hope…

I am torn on whether to get an SE4 or not. I know Apple will likely not release a successor for another 3 years and the price won’t change so the sooner you purchase one, the better value it will be. I have a 13 at the moment which I am very happy with. It’ll need a battery service but that’s all. I’ll just sit on the sidelines and make a decision 2-3 months after release.

I reckon it’ll be released around mid-March.

The higher prices in Europe are mostly due to the high VAT. Apple pricing, before government purchase taxes, in the U.S. and Europe are often fairly similar.

Using Italy as just one example, the pre-VAT price for a 128GB iPhone 16 in Italy is around €796. €796 at the current exchange rate is around $826 USD. That's slightly lower than the $829 USD pre-sales tax price for the same phone in the U.S.

Save your money and get a new battery instead.

iPhone SE4 fever has passed with the wind. The prediction of Apple's chief clairvoyant has not come true and instead of SE4 it is better to focus on your own, more important matters. And SE4 will be when it will be.

i think we see your stance on the se, "endSE" hahahaha

it'll probably be the next iphone i use. But that's largely because i use a work phone and they just buy whatever is the cheapest. It'll still be plenty good for my needs.

If they call it the 16E, I expect the price to be bumped to $549/$599. Yes, because it has the 16 in the name, this is Apple you know 😅
