They should bring back a mini model of the iPhone. I understand there might not be a need anymore in the world of large devices, but it was such a good size for so many getting their first iPhone!

Also I'm sure Apple can afford to keep a sku of a device that "doesn't sell enough" for those "just in case" people
Congratulations! We have a winner! An iPhone Mini thread hijacker on the first post!

P.S. You’re still not getting a new Mini.

This is a complete futureproof price breaker and really good news!

8GB RAM, probably 128gb storage, same display size as iPhone 16, Face ID, A18 chip with Apple Intelligence and this probably for 500.

So in 4 months, the Iphone 16 will get a strong competitor and there is really no more reason to buy the poorly equipped iPhone 16 pro. Better to save money and buy the 15 pro or wait for the 17/pro which will get major upgrades (similar to the raising of the base ram for macs to 16GB and the performance of the M4)

Clearly they don’t have a lot of confidence in it yet. Sneaking it in the cheapest iPhone mid-year.
It’s not about not having faith. All three of the SE launched mid year.

Original- march 21,2016
Second gen- April 24,2020
Current gen- march 18,2022

These conspiracy theories without doing any research are silly.

They wouldn’t launch it with the new iPhones because it will run the risk of being overshadowed by the newer ones and cannibalizing the sales of the base models.

So they announce it during the spring. It also makes sense becsuse this also keeps apple in the news until their next flagships.

They tried the mini form factor just three years ago, and canned it. I doubt they'd go there again anytime soon!

I think people voted with their wallets, there...

Apple needs to design a phone based on MacRumors forum posters’ requests. A phone of the people. A phone that has something for everyone, for the phone user that knows what they want.

A futureproof Apple product you say, 'eh?

hmmm
Of course there are no guarantees as there will be always “software features which only work on the best and latest iPhones” like the highly sophisticated battery limit on 15 onwards or the 24MP mode which was not possible on 14 Pro.

But there are certain periods of time where you get a good price-performance ratio from Apple, like
the release of the M1 and the mac mini, macbook air or the airpods 4 with NC or now the release of m4 with increased base ram and the release of the upcoming SE4.

Noooo, don’t put gen 1 tech into a product that gets updated every 3-4 years! The SE has been great because it uses old tech, that’s been tried and tested in more expensive phones 😭 When the gen 1 tech is a lemon like it usually is, they won’t fix it for years!

The gap between the SE1 and the mini 12, and since the mini 13, is why I don't upgrade every year or two anymore, as I had since the 3GS. So Apple is losing out on that revenue.

That's just it - just because Apple misses out on a sale doesn't mean they should chase that sale if the numbers don't work out. They are better off devoting resources to higher margin products that generate a better ROI.

"It is unclear if Apple's first 5G modem would unlock any consumer benefits compared to Qualcomm's modems, such as faster speeds."

Yeah they could embed the core directly into their 3nm chip and save a lot of power. I really don't care about faster modem speeds at this point but it needs to be reliable.

It has nothing to do with it being a good “first iPhone”. I currently have a 16 Pro, and if there would ever be a Mini sized model (preferably with Pro features), I would switch instantly.

I just love the Mini’s size/format, for me it was much easier to use. I didn’t think I would miss the one handed ease of use, but I do. Todays “normal” iPhone size is too cumbersome to me. Although I like a lot of the features of the 16 Pro, for me it’s still a compromise and again, I will switch to a future Mini when there will be one.

I mean, I get it. But, if it can't do its core function as well as pretty much every other recent smartphone in the past few years that uses Qualcomm, that seems like a viable complaint, assuming it is actually subpar when released.

Intel's modems were objectively subpar, but Apple had to be aware of that. So the optimist in me hopes they fixed those problems. 🤷‍♂️
Apple was definitely aware that Qualcomm modems were better than Intel’s version that they had to disable features in the Qualcomm modem so it would not leave the Intel modems in the dust 💨

Apple intentionally don't place the Mini with the flagships because they don't want to lose money from the big phones. They are the ones that kill the smaller phones, not people voting with their wallets. I'm sure if people had the choice of a new smaller phone at the same time as the new big ones we'd see a better uptake.
