To keep the low price, they’ll likely leave it as is with a the better processor. A basic, but competent device.

Implementing all the X-like good stuff in an even smaller device would be costly for them, and ultimately us. In my opinion that defeats the purpose of the SE.

I won't deny you're having battery life issues on your phone. You're the one using it, not me. However, perhaps consider that the issues you're encountering may not be universal?

That’s where you are wrong. Look it up online if you want. Type iOS 11 has amazing battery life

I need to replace my 5S fairly urgently and had gone and decided to grab an SE. I now see that my provider has a deal on the 8 (256GB) offering twice the data than the same-priced deal for a 128GB SE (not that I will be going past the SE's data limit).

Now I feel like I'd be a mug to get the SE, but I'm not keen on the size of the 8 and don't know how I feel about the glass back (I'm happy to admit I'm clumsy, as the dents on my 5S will attest).

I'm stuck between three apparently rational choices:
  • buy the 8 because it's obviously great value (clearly people are choosing to buy the 7 if they don't want the X, so they can't move the 8);
  • buy the SE because if I didn't know about the 8 deal I would have been happy with that (and I prefer the 5S size and design, despite having clownishly oversized hands);
  • wait a few months and suck up dealing with nil storage remaining on a dented phone from 2014 until an SE2 (presumably) becomes available.
Because I'm the kind of person who asks people for this kind of advice from anonymous strangers on the internet, I'd be grateful if you could help me out, internet! I've managed to put up with nil storage for about a year now (I will never sign up for cloud storage), but the dents are pretty terrible.

My mom has an iPhone SE. I was concerned when she accidentally upgraded to iOS 11 because of the online reports regarding battery life but when I asked her, she said battery life on her SE was fine.

Battery life on 11 (certainly 11.2) *is* fine. If some are having issues it’s certainly not endemic.

I’m quite happy again with performance on 11.2 too.

I’ve been looking into the iPhone SE with the Tracfone smart phone plan. I’m in a weak/dead zone. The iPhone SE was available on the Tracfone site for $199 and then it was not but was then available at Target for $199 with a Tracfone plan. Then it was gone from Target but recently reappeared on the Tracfone site again for $159. The SE would be better than my bricked iPhone 4S/flip phone combo which I’m using right now but maybe a new iPhone SE is close to release, huh. But if so, I wonder for how much?

New SE model will most likely be around $300-400 at launch.

It looks like the current iPhone SE Tracfone service uses GSM for the iPhone SE. That’s AT&T and T Mobile. T Mobile has no coverage around here and At&T has very limited coverage in my rural area. I use Apple Music so I would have to switch to Spotify if I went with an Android smart phone with CDMA(Verizon & Sprint). :(

Sold my updated SE and bought a new one, and it runs 10.3.3. It's like butter! So much more fluid and intuitive than iOS 11. No more ugly control center, new animations, ahhhhh. Never updating...

You and me both - Everytime I've touched iOS 11 I couldn't wait to get back to my SE on 10.2

The difference really is night and day. iOS runs infinitely smoother in 10, than 11. And almost all of the user interface is smarter and less confusing as well, ESPECIALLY the CC. The only things I miss are accessing low power mode from the CC, and the ability to immediately edit a screenshot once you take one. That's it. Trade off is worth it lol

Never buy anything because there’s a good deal on it. That’s a terrible way to make purchase decisions.

Research and buy the model you want, the one that fits your life. If it happens to have a deal on it at that time, fantastic. If not, oh well, you’re still getting the one that works for you.

I just bought a SE as a backup and I have to admit, it feels good to physically press down on the home button
I just returned an 8 for other reasons. But your comment about actually pressing down on the home button was a consideration. Enough so that even without my other issues, I would have returned the 8 just for this reason alone.

I agree completely. However, in the end I have gone with the 8 primarily because the 5S has become noticeably slower on iOS 11, and I don’t want to get to that point within a couple of years with the current SE when iOS 13 comes out. If there was a new SE out now with an A10 chip I’d jump at it regardless of the price, but my current phone is in such a bad way that I can’t wait for the next release (and of course there’s no guarantee the next SE won’t just be a ‘cheaper’ 4.7in iPhone 7).

If the new SE does come out and it’s a little 4in A10 beauty (and assuming the 8 doesn’t win me over completely), I’ll probably sell the 8 for it.

I don’t think im ever updating my 10.2 jailbroken SE even if iOS 11 gets a jb

My mum loves her SE. She bought it a few months ago after her iPhone from 2011 finally kicked the bucket.

I think an SE sized all screen, x-like design, with an LCD and an A10/A11 would do very well.
I think people who buy phones as small as the SE are not interested in having the latest and greatest specs. They just want something compact.

It’s not an either/or decision.

I would like high performance, but don’t want a big device (although I don’t want an X like device like the person you were replying to, I think the SE has other form factor advantages such as a flat screen, a home button, and flat sides that are easier to hold).

I'm starting to be in that exact camp.
My SE on 10.2 JB is stable as a rock and super fast and smooth.

Probably "peak iPhone" for me to this point in life honestly.

So much this...
I *love* the flat sides.

I personally still use Bumper cases too. Bought a 20 pack in multiple colors off eBay from overseas and I swap them in/out and throw them out when they break down after a while, etc. At about $1ea, it's a no brainer and I love how minimal yet helpful bumper cases really are.
