I wouldn’t call it a safe buy, the 12 mini or 13 mini is going to be better than an SE for about the same price.
Unless you just absolutely need the home button, I don’t think the current SE is a good deal at all.
Can we expect the 13 mini to remain in the lineup with a price decrease after the launch of the 15? I’m not looking to upgrade my 12 mini yet, but would like to have peace of mind knowing there will be something comparable for me to buy if something happens to my 12 mini in the next year or two.

I'd think so, but who knows what Apple is thinking. While the mini's don't sell in the numbers that Apple would have hoped, any other manufacture would have loved those numbers. There is a market for a small premium phone.

Who knows with Apple. I'd imagine they'll consolidate the lineup at some point, particularly because right now they're basically selling three identical phones (12, 13 and 14).

The Mini is unique, but unless they're planning to update it at some point (which I hope), I'd assume it'll disappear eventually to standardise the lineup around a smaller number of screen sizes.

if they would come out with an SE based on the 11 or mini I would buy one as a backup/going out phone instantly!

as is, i’d rather use an old phone as a backup than get a new SE

The current SE is, surprisingly, a killer buy. Never would have said that until I got one myself. Battery life is incredible, performance is snappy, apps seldom close when in the background, and it just has that old world charm. Not to mention the best part — it’s size! I do recommend to anyone on the fence about it.

I mocked Apple for offering this phone at $430 when you can get a better phone in nearly every way from other manufacturers. And I still stand by that. But then I got one for myself and realized how good this thing is in its own right.

Agree totally. I love my iPhone SE 2022. I absolutely hate Face ID and hate the idea that this may be the last phone that without it. Here's hoping that Apple at least puts Touch ID on the side or under the glass or something for the future. And I agree that it has the "old world charm"....I like the comments that I have an "old" phone when it's just a year old since it looks just like the iPhone 6 I rocked back in the day.

What if Apple is planning to stop selling previous models. Only will sell current model and SE. For example next year it would be iPhone 15 and SE which will be 14 renamed. And SE would remain the same until the form factor of the newest model changes again. Then new form of SE will be released in form of outgoing “main” iPhone’s form factor. Sorry a bit messy explanation, I hope you get the idea. It doesn’t make sense Apple selling iPhone 13, 14, 15 and SE same time if 14 becomes SE. perhaps Apple is dropping numbers from naming. Then they will have just iPhone, iPhone Pro, iPhone Ultra…. and iPhone SE with previous form factor.

Example 2024 lineup naming:

iPhone (2024)
iPhone Pro (2024)
iPhone Ultra (2024)

iPhone SE (2024) <- this will be regular 14 body

2024 model is revealed in sep/oct 2023. 2025 model in sep/oct 2024. Etc.

That'll be 10 years of the iPhone 6 design! Are the SE and the Mac Mini the two longest lasting industrial designs used by Apple?
TouchID, Home Button, no notch, light, small, drops in a pocket, LCD no PWM, no FaceID.

It is peak iPhone. It is the most perfect iPhone ever made. The only improvement it needs is adopting the high DPI of the old plus series phones, whose screens to this day have never been equaled.

Compared to IPhone SE3, all other iPhones are garbage.

No, we shouldn’t expect that. In fact, based on what they did last year with the 12 Mini, the 13 Mini is likely gone after this year.

However, it is at least plausible they could keep the 13 Mini around for another year at the same $599 price while getting rid of the standard 13 instead of moving it down from $699 to $599 like the 12 did.

Or, as I mentioned in an earlier post, with nothing to replace the rapidly aging SE anywhere on the near horizon, maybe they bring back the $499 legacy phone slot, which the 13 Mini could slip right into. This only has a chance if the SE is simultaneously discontinued, and even then probably only a small chance.

They should have put the battery from the 13 mini (2400 Mh) into the SE3, then it literally would be perfect.

I'm glad I got my (work-paid) iPhone SE, the version with a home button, at the beginning of Covid. This was a good thing because had I still been traveling for work the thing would have been completely useless. The battery lasts all of 4 hours on its own, and even with a battery case I'm lucky to get through half a day with it. Never again.

The 2020 SE battery life was notoriously bad. The 2022 model is ridiculously good. 6+ hours SOT.

Given how Tim Cook doesn’t care about low income people, it’s no surprise if there’s no new iPhone SE next year.

iPhone SE 2022 is $149 on many prepaid carriers, including TracFone. After 60 days of service the device is unlocked. An unlocked SE for $149 is the best deal in wireless. 😎

People telling people to get an 11-13 iphone obviously dont realize who this phone is for.
These people who like iphone Se models do not care about the latest and greatest features. THey want the apple experience in a compact size.

An 11 makes no sense because the 11 and SE share a chipset and thus support will be the same length. The size of the 11 is not going to be wanted by them.

The 12/13 mini also arent going to be compatiable because these people want touch ID and not Face ID and not to mention they are still bigger than the iphone SE is.

It's so easy Apple, just give us updated guts with LCD for under £500 in the body of:

1. 8 Plus
2. XR/11
3. 12/13 Mini

You could even forgo Face ID for a touch ID button like the iPads to save some cost.

Plenty of choices, so little cost to design and make. You will make a lot of people happy. Just pick one and get it going!

(And no PWM or dithering thank you very much. Also, I'd gladly pay much more than £500 for a high dpi LCD).

Yes, I also chose pwm because of the better camera.

Although I went back to the first SE because it was actually small

That still may not be enough for a lot of people. My phone is at 7.5 hours SOT so far today and it’s only 5pm, 69% battery remaining with a mix of safari, email, music, facetime and phone calls (with always on display enabled). Wouldn’t consider myself a power user but I definitely use it a lot.

My iPhone 11 I remember getting amazing battery life, I think with a modern chip it would be a battery life monster, and I prefer LCD displays. Though it’s probably bigger than most with a current gen SE would want

It's a good thing since the 3rd SE generation we have been using had to be sent back to the tech dept of the company because it was locked up during the last update. The 3rd SE generation has been terrible.

This. Im holding on to the 8+ because of touch ID and have no interest in the newer features these days. I have face id on my iPad and the thing is so tempermental unless im looking at it straight on. Forget unlocking the device from a distance when it goes to sleep accidentally. Basically punching in my passcode at least 50% of the time.

After speaking with supply chain companies in Asia, Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O'Malley believe that Apple is no longer planning to launch a fourth-generation iPhone SE in 2024. In a research note today, the analysts said the device was expected to feature an Apple-designed 5G modem, but the plans appear to be delayed.

Apple has reportedly been planning its own modem since at least 2018, and acquired the majority of Intel's smartphone modem business in 2019 to bolster these efforts. However, the analysts said Qualcomm could remain Apple's modem supplier for both the iPhone SE and the iPhone 16 lineup through next year, as it appears Apple's modem is not ready yet.

In February, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that the next iPhone SE would have a similar design as the standard iPhone 14, suggesting that the device would have a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID, and flat edges. However, since the new iPhone SE has reportedly been pushed back, Apple's plans for the device could change over time.

Kuo and multiple other sources do not expect the next iPhone SE to launch until 2025 at the earliest, so it would appear that the current model remains a safe buy for now. Released in March 2022, the third-generation iPhone SE features a 4.7-inch LCD display, Touch ID, 5G, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and the A15 Bionic chip. The device starts at $429 in the U.S., making it the most affordable iPhone model in Apple's lineup.

Aw man

My SE 2020 is still doing the job yet I've grown to hate the thing, not because of the phone, but because as getting a little old in the tooth, fingers are not as dextrous. So its a larger phone for me as mistakes albeit typos can be rather embarrassing sometimes, even with predictive text. Amazing how swear words can emanate from the most unlikely words!
