"Step 1: Prepair your phone to install software"

Huh? You can't update the phone or check its version without activating first.

AppTapp prob?

cant seem to install AppTapp.
I get the message:
"This will take 2-3 minutes, please be patient..."
but never does anything.
and I have a yellow ! sign on the phone saying to connect to itunes.

any suggestions, i'm lost.
thanks

I'm running this through iBrickr on Parallels...

I get this and then nothing.

iBrickr is the easy way to customize your iPhone.
Please wait while we contact your iPhone. If your iPhone is not plugged in please plug in the USB cable now

And the iPhone keeps saying, connect to itunes...

You need to RETURN your phone to jail before using AppTapp. The only thing to to now probably is launch iTunes, do a full restore and start again.

Once the restore is complete, make installing AppTapp the first thing you do (before jailbreaking and before activating).

make sure your phone autolock setting is set to *never* as well. this helped me when i was having problems. im assuming in that 2-3 minute period your phone may be going into standby?

I had that problem on attempt one, so on attempt two I did OpenSSH, but that gave me the "SSH session won't stay open" problem. My third attempt (doing the steps as listed in my post on page 12) worked fine, and allowed me to enter the minicom commands fine. Dunno what I did differently that time, but as far as I can recall the steps I listed in my post are accurate, so they should work for you too.

I'm getting the SSH problem again - I type 3 chars ("cd<space>") or anything else over 3 chars for that matter, and it says "connection to <IP> closed). I didn't install OpenSSH either, just the SFTP/SSH thing in iNdependance.

Grrr...

I've been trying to install Jailbreak. But i can't. When I try to perform Jailbreak using the independence program, i'm not able to locate the unzipped firmware files to make it work. Are the files hidden somewhere or something? Also the icon for iPhone1,1_1 as mentioned here http://modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.ph...e_Modding_OS_X is different. Mine is not like the one pictured.

Can anyone help? Thanks.

Yes, I have iTunes 7.4.1 ,and the iPhone 1.0.2 firmware installed.

iBrick I think

I was doing the unlock process when one thing lead to another and I has to pull out half way.........long story

When I connected the iphone back to my mac I was forced to do a restore which I think enabled APLLE TO DO A FIRMWARE UPDATE on me. Now I cant even unlock the phone to access it. Nothing works, none of the normal cracks online do anything.

Is it possible to back date firmware? Long shot here but looks like Im a little screwed.

Any help would be great :)

iTunes 7.3.2(6)
iPhone with what I think must be 1.03 update

I was using iTune latest version 7.4.0.28 and thats what I had when I was unlocking at home.

I followed the http://iphone.unlock.no/ instruction, although they said it should be older than 7.4, but well it works for me.

I have WinXP that is patched till today with all securities stuff like SP2 and things like that, I have Windows One Care , it didn't bug me that much.

I did follow everything from the above caption Unlock Guide and then boom, it works for me in first go!

I although try the EDGE stuff, like browsing and email from my work in the morning, so i just to make sure things go good, I restarted my iPhone and things were normal and everything downloaded perfectly well, like my Corporate Email, Gmail, Yahoo and Google Map, YouTube (yeah works without applying any YouTube Patch).

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

so i go to the mac version on trying to unlock the iphone...

step 5
iNdependence will ask you where you downloaded the firmware file I linked to in the beginning of this tutorial. Navigate to that folder (just the one called iPhone1,1_1, not the one called firmware inside it) and hit Open.

wtf? this is the 91mb file right? i can't find the file in the screenshot. iphone1,1_1

Unlocked Iphone works with Swedish Telia and Tele2Comviq

Using Simfree it pretty much was a breeze to get it to work. Needs reactivation when changing sim cards though

hi

im trying to type the password in the putty file but i get a message saying the server closed the connection. how to i go around this. plus im lost here about this question when the file says for this part. Now it's time to log onto your phone via SSH from your computer how to i go tru there. i download the putty file from this site. i know something isnt rite here.

I don't get it. I thought the courts made it legal for phones to be unlocked. Infact I thought there is a new law that requires cellular companies to unlock the phone so you can use it on another carrier. Am I mistaken?

"If your web browser didn't automatically decompress it to a folder, then change the file extension from ".ipsw" to ".zip" and unzip it yourself"

Vodafone UK - All OK

I'm pretty sure the easiest way to prepare for the unlock is to install App Tapp and use that to install BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH. No Jailbreak required. Then I just followed the instructions here from step two onwards. The only problem was the linked zip file didn't contain bbupdate or linkdownd files, so I had to get them from somewhere else. Other than, nice and easy.

Woohoo! My iPhone is now working on an old AT&T SIM until my T-mobile one comes tomorrow. I unlocked using the graphical iUnlock this morning.

Right, I've managed to get it working, and I put my O2-UK SIM in and got signal. But as soon as I restarted my phone, I get "incorrect SIM" and it no longer works.

What do you do with the linkdownd file?
