the problem is when you have an older plan they make you change it to one of their more current plans.
Didn't make me and my plan is a 4 year old family plan.

The other poster is right. All you have to do is add the data plan to your existing plan. This is what I did. It isn't hidden, or a back door, or anything like that. It is plain as day when you activate using iTunes. It is one of the choices on the screen. Unless this screen is built dynamically and for some reason you personally are being excluded, I can't imagine you not having this option as well. What happened when you tried to activate your iPhone with iTunes? Did you not get this option?
I have not purchased an iPhone because when I asked the sales rep at the AT&T store I was told that I would have to move to a contemporary plan. I was told that this is because I have an AT&T plan that was issued before Cingular bought AT&T wireless (which later merged with the rest of AT&T and became AT&T again). I have been told this ever since AT&T wireless became Cingular. And the change back to AT&T has had no effect on what I've been told. (Believe me, I've asked several times to several different people. Current AT&T locked phones won't recognize my SIM.)
Wooooohoooo! Confirmed on Rogers Wireless in Vancouver, Canada.
SMS text and phone fully functional.
Methods: http://iphone.unlock.no/ and http://modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.ph...iPhone_iUnlock
These two tutorials seem to be the easiest to follow, but they have different approaches with minicom. http://iphone.unlock.no/ is more elegant, but the modmyiphone site has better laid out instructions.
Tips: Make sure to read the instructions very carefully with the SIM removed until the very end. Also, DO NOT sync without a SIM card inserted after the hack is completed. iTunes will prompt you to sign up with AT&T again and you will have to start over.
Big thanks to all the hard working developers!
Does Youtube not work? It just uses any data connection, so it should work on any network, regardless of Wifi or EDGE. I noticed that it scales the videos down to a low-bandwidth version if you are on EDGE, probably to avoid stuttering during playback.

Has anyone called T-Mobile and spoken to them openly about using an iPhone?
This might reveal some info on what plans to use, or at the very least T-Mobile's feelings on people using iPhones on their network; I'm sure the CS folks have been briefed on it by now...
what is "sftp"?
i just did it with the same intructions as the other rogers person
and it worked
my iPhone is on rogers!
whoaaa

Virgin UK /Vodafone UK /Orange UK all work
i have not tried my o2 work sim yet but i'd take a guess to say that will too
Ok, serious question here. . .if I want an IPhone and want to us it as such, what are the benefits of unlocking for those in the US? I understand outside the US, but inside? You still need a carrier and a voice/data plan. . .in my own situation, my wife wants one and has a 49 voice plan via tmobile. . .to use the tmobile sim she would need to add a 20 data plan for 69. Similar to the ATT plans.
What am I missing.
Adam
Ahhhhhhhhh, In this case you are right you will have to get a new plan. Sorry about the confusion. If I had read your post a little deeper I would have seen that.
I just went on my lunch to buy an iPhone has anyone confirmed youtube works with the other methods after using the gui unlock?
