And still not possible to download :) His server is under a massive DoS - wonder why.. Anyone up for playing the mirror game? (I would if I could, but can't because I have to have something to mirror)

Seeing as people are smarter than me (surprise!) and uploads to rapidshare and alike, there's no reason I donate BW for it :)

Just set up a torrent and that should solve the DoS problems. Leverage the network not clog it.

For anyone who is wanting to unlock an iPhone on a mac, I ran into a guide that may help (since I do not have a iPhone, I cannot test it):

Code:
A very easy tutorial of Dev Team Unlock for Mac

I will post a very easy tutorial of Dev Team Unlock for Mac

-First you will need to install the app from nullriver, once you have it on the iphone open it and install things in this order:
-Community Sources
-BSD Subsystem
-OpenSSH
-Open Terminal

Link for the iUnlock files (iUnlock , nor and ICE03.14.08_G.fls):
http://rapidshare.com/files/55046131/iunlock-Contains-Files.rar
Link to get bbupdater, inside that pack you only need to use bbupdater:
http://rapidshare.com/files/51207171/Geohack.rar
Link for App installer:
http://iphone.nullriver.com/beta/

Then you need to install FUGU on your Mac once you have it go back to the iphone, se the iPhone for having a Static IP adress and set it so it will never get lock! now you are ready to open FUGU at your Mac, im going to post the steps once FUGU is open on your Mac:
-type the iPhone IP adress you set on it earlier
-it will ask you for the password of the iPhone, the password is "dottie"
-now you are inside the iphone system go to "usr" folder of the iphone
-create a new folder on the iphone called "local, open it and create inside it a new folder called "etc"
- go back to usr folder on the iphone and now get into the "bin" folder located inside "usr" folder, here you have to upload three files, "iunlock", "ICE03.14.08_G.fls" and "nor"
-now get back to the intiall folder inside your iPhone and get into your "bin" folder (not the one inside usr folder), here you have to upload the bbupdater
-now get back to the initiall folder of the iPhone and get into your "system" folder, once inside it open the "library" folder and then open the "launch deamons" folder here you will see this file "com.apple.CommCenter.plist" copy that file yo your computer and then erased it from the iphone.
-Now you have to shutdown your iphone, and then restart it
-Once the iPhone is on and connected to the Wifi open the terminal in your Mac and type this to get into the iPhone "ssh -l root here you wright your ip adress" then enter/return
-now it will ask you the password type "dottie" enter/return
- once inside the iphone type "cd /usr/bin" enter/return
-"minicom -s" enter/return
- Select "Serial port setup" (with your down arrow key) then press enter/return.
-At the next screen, type: A
-Your cursor will now be at the "Serial Device" line. Type: /dev/tty.baseband Then press enter/return.
-Press the escape key. Select "Save setup as dfl" and press enter/return. You will get a pop up message saying "Configuration Saved".
-Select "Exit". Then press enter/return. then close that terminal window
-Open a new terminal window and type "cd /usr/bin" enter/return
- type "iUnlock ICE03.14.08_G.fls nor" enter/return, the iphone should take like 20 minutes to get this process done
-once its finished type "bbupdater -v" enter/return
-now type "minicom" enter/return
-type "AT" enter/returnyou should get OK for response
-type AT+CLCK="PN",0,"00000000" enter/return you should get OK for response
-type AT+CLCK="PN",2 enter/return you should get this for response "+CLCK: 0
OK", if this is the case your iPhone is unlocked
-now open again the FUGU on your mac log into your iphone the same way you did it before
-go to "system", "library", "launch deamons" and inside that folder put back the "com.apple.CommCenter.plist" you copied before to your mac now closed fugu, shutdown your iphone, put inside it any sim card you want , then turn it on and i should work!

IMPORTANT:!!!
guys if you get this message from FUGU "WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED"! guys if you get this error an the beggining (during the first time you try to connect to your iphone) the solution is simple just go back to the iphone and type on it a different Static IP then go back to FUGU type the new IP adress and that should work!
thats all! is not that hard if you follow step by step! inclusively you could copy the commands i have written ! remember enter/return means type that key of your keyboard after typing what is beetwen the ""

good luck and hope this helps you!

THANKS TO ALL THE DEV TEAM FOR THEIR GREAT JOB AND EFFORT! I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE SPECIAL THANKS TO SAM HE HAS BEEN HELPING ME WITH SOME ISSUES I HAD ON MY IPHONE HE IS SUCH A GREAT GUY!

CHEERS DEV TEAM!

Wooooohoooo! Confirmed on Rogers Wireless in Vancouver, Canada. :)

SMS text and phone fully functional.

Methods: http://iphone.unlock.no/ and http://modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.ph...iPhone_iUnlock
These two tutorials seem to be the easiest to follow, but they have different approaches with minicom. http://iphone.unlock.no/ is more elegant, but the modmyiphone site has better laid out instructions.

Tips: Make sure to read the instructions very carefully with the SIM removed until the very end. Also, DO NOT sync without a SIM card inserted after the hack is completed. iTunes will prompt you to sign up with AT&T again and you will have to start over.

Big thanks to all the hard working developers!

I've never thought about using a crack for anything. games console, OS, phones etc. It seems a bit too much trouble.

But seriously, if I don't hear any news on a UK release soon I think I'll give it a try. I know I know Steve said its coming next quarter blah blah. But please, throw us a bone.

Since january I have patiently waited with my nokia n80, unable to check email because of some seemingly insolvable bug, charging every 8 hours. waiting, waiting. Both myself and my business need this phone.

sorry rant over. Just making the point that without information from Apple soon, me - and I guess a lot of other people - will be considering this crack.

I feel the exact same way bud!

Maybe we need to have a stickie or something in the OP saying where this leaves us. That would certainly help prevent some people from asking the same questions over and over again.

What we know (at least what I got from the previous 11 pages):

- You can pretend to activate your iPhone and use it like an iPod touch with extra features.
- You can (after a normal or pretend activation) unlock your iPhone and use it with apparently a good deal of non-ATT GSM carriers.
- There is a GUI unlock program.
- After a successful unlock, you cannot use visual voicemail on any network other than ATT.
- After a successful unlock, you can make and receive calls, use the internet, and use the other programs on the iPhone.
- After a successful unlock, you need to change some preferences to use the T-Mobile EDGE network, but at least one user has claimed success.

What we are not necessarily sure of:

- Will this functionality become disabled with a future software update? No one knows at this point.
- What happens for users who do not currently have a data plan? Will the phone avoid getting online other than through hotspots if you don't change the preferences?
- If this unlock works on absolutely every GSM carrier.
- Which data plan you should add to your current service.

What am I missing? Where can we put this information to make it easy for the most people to see?

I agree 100%. And just continually update it.
Ask and you shall receive :)

Scratch that, just noticed the OP of this thread has edited their post to say pretty much everything baby duck monge mentioned, so this thread has been made sticky instead.

Doesn't seem strange to me. I have exactly the same question. I don't want to give up my rate plan, but because it's a plan that dates back to the original AT&T wireless, if I change anything (new hardware, new phone number, etc.), then I have to change to a contemporary rate plan. So, my only option is to use unlocked phones if I want a new phone.

Therefore, I want to know the same thing you do. Has anyone tried using an unlocked iPhone on a non-iPhone AT&T plan yet? Enquiring minds want to know!

If you are already with AT&T and have an old plan you do not have to lose it when you activate a new iPhone, all you have to do is add the iPhone data plan to your exsisting plan. I know this because this is what I did. I was able to keep all my roll-over minutes and my 3 year old plan as well.

You people are so funny...

YOu think only AT&T is getting scrwed and Apple could care less that the iPhones are getting unlocked. .. ummmm. NO, Apple does care BIG TIME!

Apple is reproted to get roughly $10/mo from ATT per service plan that uses the iPhones. That Means, if there are over 1million hack phones, they would be loosing roghly 120million a year.

So yes, Apple would get affected by using another carrier since they get no profit sharing with ATT on that.

No no no...

There are certain types of people that will use this hack:

1) People who don't use AT&T and are unwilling to switch
2) People who use AT&T who don't want to pay outrageous amounts for a data plan.

In case #1, the unlock is allowing Apple to sell more phones at $400 a crack to people WHO WOULD NOT HAVE OTHERWISE BOUGHT AN iPHONE. So if Apple moves a million phones to TMo or Sprint or whoever, that an EXTRA $400M.

In case #2, again, Apple will make the $400 hardware sale. If they do lose out on an AT&T service plan, it's only $240 per plan over the course of two years. Again, they come out ahead because they were able to sell the phone to someone who would not have otherwise purchased the phone.

Apple is not losing much money on the unlock, if any at all. The only body truly getting the shaft is AT&T.

BTW, I fall into category #2. The price drop made the iPhone very alluring... but the unlock has made the sell. I will now buy an iPhone. It's just a matter of "when."

Holy poop, Batman! Someone actually read something I wrote. On page 11 :)eek:)! And then they took my suggestion. I wonder if that means I am going to have an awesome day. Or if I've just used up all my awesomeness for the day... I'm hoping it's the first since it's a long day (work until 11 tonight) and I could use some awesome. ;)

right for me

Virgin UK /Vodafone UK /Orange UK all work

i have not tried my o2 work sim yet but i'd take a guess to say that will too

Apple is winning either way with this....yes this free unlock will sell a ton of new phones but when the European iphone is officially released, they will sell even more of those.

I've just successfully unlocked using the iUnlock GUI at:-

http://www.freeiphoneunlock.com/unlock/

It works fine, but whenever I restart my iPhone it seems to lose it's unlock status and says Incorrect SIM.

I removed the Unlock program straight after by SFTP because obviously I didn't need it anymore - do I have to keep it in order for it to work?!

Wish I'd seen the GUI first!

Been on with this since 12pm today, using 3 different methods/instructions and kept coming across different problems in each (minicom input problems, SSH problems).

This seems to work a treat!

Have you tried a restart? Any "activation" or "wrong SIM" errors?

QUestion re http://www.freeiphoneunlock.com/unlock/

Once this is run what is the process for activation. I want to unlock using ATT for a overseas trip and drop the card in when I get there .
