When does the online availability chart work? It always says to check after 9 p.m., and I always forget!

Does it work from 9 p.m. until the store opens the next morning? Makes sense now that I think about it, but I haven't read the previous x-dozen messages.

It is suppose to show if they will have any at opening.

But my experience has been, they have them in the morning but the store still shows a red light.

All in all, just call.

Ordered an 8G on iPhone Friday after my local AT&T sold out. I placed an order before I left and have been checking my Apple Store ever since, but it looks like my original order shipped 7/03 and should be here today, 7/05!!!

3 Days to ship
2 Days shipping (express to Hawaii)

1 Week for iPhone :apple:

Fake!!!

I'm sick and tired of hearing all of these fake rumors. There is no such thing as an iPhone. Apple would never sell a phone, not only would it cannibalize iPod sales but they have zero experience is the ultra-competitive phone industry. Even if they did make one, it would never be called the iPhone, it would be called something like "iPod phone".

I believe it works "outside of business hours", BUT is made in error to the degree the store is open late and attacked by last minute buyers. The degree this factor superceeds the website will subside over time.

Even Apple and Stevie and RDF cannot offset "mob rule". Where is the API for that??

Rocketman

I saw an iPhone "in the wild" today in a very rural and upscale place called Cedar Glen, CA. He was skeptical of EDGE too :) Very, very happy with "ATN" :) .

I bought a 8GB iPhone at the Maui, Hawaii AT&T store at 1 PM on Monday, July 1st.
AT&T advised they shipped it Thursday, July 5th @ 9:00AM from Ft Worth Texas:)

It arrived Fedex Friday afternoon

I just checked and they have stock locally

I just checked and there is stock at most of the NY state Apple stores, just not so much in the New York city ones. Didn't check other states. I'd have to say this is a false rumor.

iPhones in Phoenix, Arizona

All stores are sold out in the three stores in Arizona. Long story short:

* Went into Biltmore Apple store to get 8 GB iPhone
* While in line, approached by reporter for local news
* Reporter said, come outside and do interview, can't interview inside store
* Reluctantly, I went with him
* Returned to store to buy iPhone, no more 8 GB models
* Very, very, very upset and stormed around store for 20 minutes
* Left in a huff, ate lunch, decided to go back after an hour or so
* Surprise, surprise, like magic they had more 8 GB phones
* My interview ended up on the 5 o'clock news

I just found it odd that the store ran out, then somehow they found some. The guy in the store said some people had brought back some 8 GB phones. Whatever.

Oh, and the reporter was trying to put a spin on some of the bugs that people are experiencing with the phone. My comment, "Ever work on a PC running Windows?" :D

Yes, the PC people revel in hearing bad things about Apple, and watching AAPL stock go down. What's that? What a minute? You mean Apple stock is actually going up with all these "negative" stories. You mean people actually like the iPhone (or do they just hate their current phone to the tune of $500-600?)

Wait. You mean the REAL story is the X-Box having a 1.15 BILLION DOLLAR flaw in it? Did THAT make the evening news? Thought not.

iPhones available

iPhones are available at the Apple Store in Providence, RI. My wife just bought an 8 GB iPhone Thursday 7/5/07 at about 2:00 pm.

even the att store in the burbs has some more iPhones in federal way WA. Its spotty, but your bound to find one in person.

After picking up 2 8gb units this moring, i saw iphones on ebay closing early with buy it now for 1200+ dollars! Tempting, but absurd!

My closest store, at Novi MI, had been out of iPhones most of the week. Out of frustration I ordered online, but was told I wouldn't get a phone till the end of the month. Evidently the Novi store got shipments after the holiday and had plenty of stock (4gb and 8gb) when I visited yesterday. Long story short, I got a phone last night and promptly canceled my online order.

I ordered my iPhone at the Apple Online Store at 9PM EDT last Friday (June 29) and it said two to four weeks.
Well it's on the FedEx truck for delivery today, only one week later.:)

The Oregon store was actually out.

I was there at about 20 'til 9. There were five people in line ahead of me. At 9, the Apple guy came out and said that, oops, the green dot on the web page was a mistake, there were no phones after all.

BUT... they had some in reserve, held for replacements or something, that he would dip into. He said he could sell six. Well, turns out three other people got the first three, because they'd been there a couple hours early. (And they'd driven all the way from Seattle. Well damn, I drove down from Vancouver BC.) Huh. Then somehow the five people in front of me each got one too. But not me.

I went to the Aspen Grove Apple store in Littleton Colorado this morning and got my 8gig. There were about 20 people in line. Everyone got a phone but as I was paying for a case, they said they had one phone left. It sounds like they got maybe 20 phones in this morning if that. The guy said that they have no idea when and how many get shipped each shipment, he said Apple just sends them randomly.

I now cancelled my phone that I ordered online. My phone was activated withing minutes and my Sprint number transferred within 10 minutes. Very easy process!

From Seattle!? I know there is places that will have it in a few days, not worth driving down to Oregon!

I got mine from the Apple Store @ Millenia Mall in Orlando today around noon.

But now it's currently an iBrick. Activation isn't happening and AT&T doesn't know what's going on.

I'm surprised

Just wondering how many iPhones Apple made for the launch. I would have expected Apple stores to be closer to being fully stocked by now. Here in California, you're out of luck.

Does this mean a ton of people were forced to resort to the online Apple store?

And just how much of the monthly iPhone bill does Apple keep? Vodaphone, like Verizon before them, turned Apple down, supposedly because the monthly cut was too much. Was ATT that desperate? With a profit margin of $300 and a monthly cut it's got to be nice to be an Apple employee lately.

Here's hoping that iPhone has Nintendo Wii appeal.

Could they sell 2 or 3 million in July?

A co-worker just picked up an 8gb today from the apple store in Pittsburgh - shadyside.

I almost did this, but i figured id just check the local mall first just to make sure.

They had plenty. You guys should have stopped at bellevue square and loaded up on 8GB units.

What time of day have you guys been picking these up?? I live 60 miles from the nearest store and there's no way I can get there before 9am. I'm afraid that in the 1.5 hrs it takes to get there they might sell out of whatever stock they have.

I got to my store at 8.45 am, they opened the doors at 8.55 and at 9.06 they were sold out.

Burlingame, CA sold out this morning

I got to the Burlingame, CA store this morning at about 8:20am and there was a line of about 30 people outside waiting already.

A few minutes later, an apple employee comes out of the store with a stack of tickets for 8GB iPhones and starts handing them out to the people in line so we wouldn't have to wait in line anymore. (max 2 tickets per person)

I would guess that he handed out at least 45 tickets to all the people in line and took about 10-15 tickets back into the store.

When I went back to buy the phone at 9:15am, there was a bunch of disappointed people leaving that had gotten there after the store opened and hadn't got a ticket.

Some observations:

- Handing out tickets made the purchase process flow really smoothly. I was surprised that they were able to service all of the 30-40 iphone ticket holders in less than half an hour. It was really pleasant to be able to grab some coffee while I waited for the store to open.

- Handing out tickets at 8:30am caused the first line to almost immediately disappear, but 5 minutes later a second line started growing and ended up being just about as long as the first line. When the store opened, almost all of the people that filed in weren't able get an iPhone.

- Almost all of the people I passed outside that were carrying apple bags had that "I can't believe I got it!" smile on their face.

- Almost all the people that didn't get one seemed dazed and lost as they wandered through on their way out.

My advice is to go early (no later than 8:15am) and stand in line. If you get there any later, you risk missing a possible ticket distribution.

Now, on to my next adventure... activating my new iPhone... :p
