Sure...

Yes, you can cancel your order if you find something before the ship date. I was going to do the same thing but held back as I found out about the online retail updates. Only problem it doesn't detail what type are available 4GB or 8GB or both.

But I picked the store I thought would be most favorable and lucked out.

explanation

Apple is probably listing stores as out of stock if at least one of the two models is sold out. That way people don't go to the store and get disappointed because they want a 4Gb and Apple doesn't have any (when the website said they were in stock).

Heh. ;)

I wonder if the iPhone hasn't already outsold the Zune?

Seeing as I can't find exact numbers, reports are that the Zune is around 1M after 6MO, iPhone 500,000 (i've seen 300k to 750k) after only 5 (3 business) days.

I really don't think Pgh has any, I haven't called but, like I said before, my friend didn't get one Tuesday.

its funny how the other phone companies try to spin this as if the iphone isnt selling well... read this article you guys, its ridiculous
Apple iPhone misses sales targets This article is completely BS b/c that phone murdered sales targets...

The entire scenario of judging product releases is ridiculous. It's almost as if selling 100K and being sold out is preferable to selling 700K with some stores still having stock.

Why should Apple suffer simply because they didn't artificially lower supply to create a frenzy? It seems to me they pretty much got their launch inventory spot on.

My 8G iPhone shipped from Apple on July 4. It has a scheduled delivery day of July 9. I ordered it June 29, at 6 pm.

Right when the iPhone was available online they stated 2-4 weeks. You will get yours on July 10 which is almost two weeks from the release. Those who order today will wait close to 3 weeks. Under promise and over deliver.

Blackberry should be worried.

Hold out!

Yeh i just called them up all they have left are some 4g You think i should hold of for the 8s or go quickly grab the smaller one?

If I were you I would hold out. I had a chance at the local AT&T store to take the 4 GB when the 8 ran out. The next day I decided to go to one of the Apple Stores that I thought gave the best shot at an 8GB. I got one and already have less than 3GB on the phone. And I'm not trying to fill it up.

*UPDATE* I have been calling around and stores will be reciving shipments in around this after noon check back with your local Apple Store after 1pm*UPDATE*

Yeah that's what I got too from calling around. Lets keep those fingers and toes crossed in hopes those who want one today can get one! :)

I ordered mine online at 6:15 PM on June 29th, and it just arrived this morning! My activation wasn't immediate (transferring a number from t-mobile), so I'm currently awaiting an e-mail from AT&T ... I hope it doesn't take too long.

The shipping time originally said 2 - 4 weeks, then I got an e-mail saying it would ship by July 6, then I got a shipping notification that is shipped July 3. Despite the holiday (and the fact that I chose standard shipping) - it came today.

<envy>
you are lucky! Only have to wait a few weeks. All news says that only UK, France and Germany will be included in Europe. Sitting here in Denmark I'm wondering if I should just go buy something else. It will be at least a year before we see anything here :-(

On the good side the iPhone may see updates w. 3G/GPS and ATM/color esspresso maker, high def. before...

at least I own stocks ;-)

I love Denmark! I just visited for the first time in May, awesome place. :)

(Sorry so off topic.)

duly noted and totally agree... RIM should be shaking in their boots cuz nobody is buying up that stupid curve... i :apple: my iphone

I would wait. You will regret not getting an 8 gig. Double the space for $100 more.

Actually, a little more than double the useable space since the OS and applications will take up about 1 gig by themselves. That leaves around 3 Gig versus 7 Gig of space for music, movies, and podcasts.

You can call ATT, and expedite this process.

Pretty amazing, if you ask me. I'd say the iPhone is a success!

It has done better than I expected. I am holding out until I hear about an SDK (I enjoy software development) or a second rev comes out, so I am specifically avoiding Apple stores right now. I am afraid if I touch an iPhone I will lose control and buy one.

Are AT&T stores getting restocked or should I just try Apple stores? My local stores have been out since Saturday/Sunday and I'm wondering if they'll even get more anytime soon if the Apple stores are having trouble.

Yeah... my store has been out since Saturday. I really, REALLY want an iPhone. Apple needs to get some to the stores that aren't getting any!

Oh goodness, yep, I tried several Motos and blackberrys last week... the keyboards are horrible. I don't currently own a smartphone and have been dying to get one... I need one now more than ever... but these smartphone keyboards were all deal-breakers. I could get my finger on the right key AND I HAVE SMALL FINGERS!! (I'm a girl) If you have the slightest bit of your finger nail grown over the top of your fingers, forget it, the keyboard is useless. And no, I don't have inch-long manicured nails, not into that. I keep my nails short, to about a 1/32 of an inch! That's when i told my hubby that I'm waiting to get an iPhone once our contract's over in Fall 07! I think by then there would be enough iPhone software updates that would exceed my current needs.

There are a bunch on eBay. Some are going for a few hundred, quite a few for over $1000 and one person selling his for $20,990,000. Yes, almost $21 Million. He says most of the $ will go to charity. If it's his own charity (as in pocket), I won't be surprised.

I'm holding out for revision 2 also; I really want 3G and GPS. Good idea avoiding Apple Store's right now; I visited the Pioneer Place store in Portland, Oregon, and almost bought one just for it's sheer cool factor! I stopped by because I just had to try one out. They are amazing, even in generation 1.

Apple's Magic Date: June 29, 2007

Releasing the iPhone and Ratatouille on the same date was absolutely magical. Just brilliant. Two #1s on the same date! Amazing. The movie, of course, is about even the smallest and most seemingly insignificant can be #1 -- the very best in the world. If this wasn't a direct connection to Apple and Pixar themselves, I don't know what is.

About the 1M iPhones: If the rumors were true and there was a 4/1 ratio of 8GB phones over 4GB ones, Apple made $575,000,000 -- over a half a Billion Bucks! And if Apple makes its goal of 10M iPhones in the first year, $5,750,000,000: Almost 6 BILLION DOLLARS -- that's not including whatever they'll earn from activation fees, part of the cut of AT&Ts money (which is highly rumored) and ringtone cash -- It'll easily hit a cool 6 Billion in 2008. I am just amazed.

In my opinion, once the iPhone hits the world globally, I think the numbers are gonna much higher.

Box Office Mojo said:
The weekend's main course, Ratatouille, served up $47 million on approximately 5,800 screens at 3,940 theaters.

Waitingforiphone.com said:
According to reports leaked to waitingforiphone.com, ATT Mobility has fulfilled over 1 million iPhone activations since the device was launched in the US on June 29th. This news comes from a full-time staffer in ATT Mobilty’s Commerce Group who chose to remain anonymous. Wall Street analysists have placed initial iPhone sales between 500,000 - 750,000 units. First week sales of over 1 million would cement the iPhone as Apple’s fastest selling new product, and one of the hottest new technology gadgets in history.
