Multiple shipments

I just called my local Apple store (Green Hills, Tennessee). I was surpised (pleasently) that they had several phones in stock. When I got there (and bought mine), I mentioned the online stock tool and they told me that is only good for 9:00 AM. They receive shipments throughout the day (mine came from a shipment delievered at 11:00 AM). This beats having to wait until July 13th for my online order to ship!

You'll be better off calling your local Apple & AT&T stores.

Online order: Received!

I placed an order online just after 9pm (6 PDT) on the 29th assuming that the 2-4 week shipping window was a fairly liberal over-estimate. I received notice on Monday the 2nd saying my iPhone would ship "by July 6th" with delivery "by July 12th". And another email yesterday morning saying it had been shipped out of China, and would be arriving at approximately 10:30am on Friday the 6th.

The FedEx guy rang my doorbell just after 9am this morning, a mere 132 hours after the order was placed, with a cute little box in hand.

Sweet. Will check this out this weekend. I hope to get an iphone in the next couple of days. Thanks.

I got tired of calling my local AT&T stores and the Apple Store in Sacramento, so I ordered an 8GB online this morning. I received a confirmation e-mail late this evening stating that it "will ship by July 20th". If I do find one locally before Apple ships my iPhone, can I still cancel my online order without paying any cancellation fees?
Thanks!

Yes. There are no cancellation fees. Even if your phone happened to ship same day as you found an iPhone in-store you could still return it w/o a fee unless you open it. Return shipping would be on you though. But if you are vigilant and call the store a couple times a day you'll probably find an iPhone before Apple ships yours. (Seriously, stock changes, so what they think they don't have at 10pm, they might have at 3pm).

Also I wouldn't recommend buying from ATT. Their return policy on DOA units is ridiculous. They will only tell you to get yours repaired, not offer to replace. If you try to return they will charge you 10%. Apple's policy is much more sane. They will replace DOA units on the spot, provided one is in stock, else they'll send you one.

I'm holding out for revision 2 also; I really want 3G and GPS. Good idea avoiding Apple Store's right now; I visited the Pioneer Place store in Portland, Oregon, and almost bought one just for it's sheer cool factor! I stopped by because I just had to try one out. They are amazing, even in generation 1.

I told myself I'd wait until v2, also.

posted from my new iPhone.

I wonder if the inventory status is just for crowd control? Bellevue Square in Bellevue, WA (outside of Seattle, WA) had a large amount of 4G and 8G units around 11:00am.

This location was red last night.

No line, but maybe a sale every minute or two.

About the 1M iPhones: If the rumors were true and there was a 4/1 ratio of 8GB phones over 4GB ones, Apple made $575,000,000 -- over a half a Billion Bucks! And if Apple makes its goal of 10M iPhones in the first year, $5,750,000,000: Almost 6 BILLION DOLLARS

That would be true if the iPhone didn't cost a penny for Apple to develop, produce and market. The current estimate is that the iPhone costs Apple roughly $250/unit to manufacture, leaving roughly a $300/unit profit when based on manufacturing costs alone. However, it took untold years and millions in R&D to create the iPhone, and millions to advertise and market the iPhone, all of which needs to be recouped. I'm sure Apple is still pulling in a decent profit per unit when all is factored in, but it is nowhere near your numbers.

Century City has some as of 11:20am. I just got one for me and one for my wife! Looks like there some left! How's everyone else doing?

There's more...

in the channel and distribution is now looking to be going ahead in the Apple Stores. What that means by end of day is uncertain.

And I'm not sure where that puts AT&T in replenishment.

Pretty amazing, if you ask me. I'd say the iPhone is a success!

Based on the rumors that AT&T have connected like 700,000 phones and the remainder of the stores running out, the rumor that Apple had like 1 mil distributed, may not be far off.

I say the iPhone been 10 times over a sucesses as a success was 100,000 units for the opening weekend.

DAMN!
DAMN DAMN DAMN!
I was TWO away! AGAIN!
God, I feel like SCREAMING!

(EDIT)
Yay! They got some more in! Hello, 8 GB iPhone!

for what it's worth, I think they're fairly accurate. Stores get shipments, sell out, and then at the end of the day they're out of stock.

I was told by an employee of one of the bay area (CA) stores that they received 2-3 shipments of phones per day, all small quantities. So the beginning-of-the-day status isn't really relevant. You just need to be there when the phones are. :)

They were in the Fashion Show Apple Store, in Las Vegas. They haven't had a shipment to my knowledge since Saturday.

I just placed an order for the 8GIG, case and car charger at apple.com. I'm getting tired of wondering what store will have any in the morning. If it gets here in a week, fine, two weeks, no problem, I ordered 2-3 day delivery after shipping. Everything but the phone will be here on the 9th or 10th.

Hell yeah, finally I got to the Apple store in Sacramento at the right time. Picked up a nice 8gig iPhone.

Can't play with it until after work but this'll be a nice evening :)

So. Instead of waiting and camping outside of a store for four days before release, all you have to do is hang out at an Apple store all-day-long until a shipment comes in and have arranged in advance with a sales-geek you are declared in cue to buy one?

This is retail?

Maybe the Zune was not so bad after all . . .

Rocketman

Just called University Village Apple store, they said they "had some this morning" but according to their online availability it was red.
