iPhone Tips and Tricks thread

A little trick I stumbled on earlier today by accident: If you shake the phone while typing in a text field, you get a popup to undo text. (tested in MMS and notes)

I searched for 'shake' and 'undo' in this thread and didn't get any results..
 
WiFi Only?

Is it possible to turn off the phone but leave WiFi on?

I will be overseas for three weeks and do not want to incur phone usage and international roaming charges for calls that I don't pick up while using wifi and surfing the web.

Also, has anyone used the ICall app to call US numbers while overseas. Does this work?

Only for jailbroken iPhones.

However, leaving your device on the charger will indeed keep wifi on. But once you unplug it wifi is turned off in 30 seconds unless the device is unlocked (slide to unlock) or in use.

Hmmmmm i think you can try

1) Removing the simcard and just using the phone as it is.

2) When starting up the phone, don't unlock the simcard (Simcard lock must be on).

Let us know if any of that helps!
 
airplane mode

i have turned ON airplane mode and then gone back in to settings and enabled wifi while flying recently on airlines with wifi service .... seems to be what you are talking about and seems to work.... 16G 3G not jailbroken
 
Turn airplane mode ON then turn wireless on. This lets you use the phone on wifi but not on cell networks. Sykpe works great to makes calls back to the states. 2.95 a month gives you unlimtef calls or you can pay something like .01/ min. Calls are crystal clear
 
ok my i phone was unlocked before but i accidently restored it when i pluged it into my computer and now it wont even let me access the main page what do i do

need help please

I would love someone to help me with calendar alerts they are not loud enough for me to hear them in my purse or travel bag..(had blackberry and I always hear my alerts it was my apendage)..can I set louder sounds? sorry I am new and have no idea where to look for this and I am:mad: I need to hear my calendar alerts..I travel and cant hear them with all the noises out in the traveling world....could someone PLEASE help....

Help please!!!!

Ok so I have a iphone 3g and it was jailbroken...I dont know what happened but now the computer wont even recognize there is a iphone plugged in...it was working fine and then I did a reset in settings and now all that shows on the screen is a pineapple and noone can figure out how to fix it PLEASE HELP!!!:confused:
 
It's amazing how difficult it can be to find the answer to what you think is a simple question!

Texting - everytime someone send me a text message or I sent them one, they get "attached" to the bottom of the string of messages that have already taken place - even if I or the other person is not using reply.

Is there a way to start new text "strings". I tried going to a particular contact and choosing to send a text, but that added to the bottom of the string as well.

please tell me the iphone can MASS DELETE ALL text messages simultaneously. pics too!

Wtfrig? There is seriously no way to delete all your messages at once? I have never done this, I get 8 million texts a day cause i'm 2kewl4schewl, and I have a poopton of stupid pictures to go along with all that. My phone is now slower than the DMV and I would rather go to a nickelback concert than try to erase 8 months of teenage-girl-frequency texting. :(:confused:

Your fastest option is deleting them conversation by conversation. Either swipe and hit "delete" or "edit", red button on the left, "delete".

There is no mass delete, unfortunately.
 
Headphone turn iPod "on" instead of "Internet" app that was previously being used

My Headphone turns the iPod "on" instead of "Internet" radio that was previously in use , after finishing a call. The iPOd turnS on when using the button on the headphones. When I use my Internet radio and turn if off. Use ing the button on the headphone , the iPod turns on not the radio I have to turn it on manually. Genuis is turn on . Could this affect the headphones? D

Transferring purchased music from iphone to itunes on a mac

I can't get the music I've purchased on my iphone to go into itunes on my mac. How do I do that? Thanks

Just like the blackberry (egad! The B-word!) you can just hit the space bar twice in rapid succession and get a period as well.

Yep! That's always been the way I type, I always double space after my periods by habit anyway. ;)
