Disappointed on IPhone, they were cancelled our iPhone X meant that’s our device has no value on the market. I’m worried of trading an new iphone since released on 2018 September they won’t accept or decrease the value market on our device.

I would agree that the value could be diminished.

Are you just now thinking about this?

Huh? Where does this come from? iPhones are replaced every year. Looking forward to the new one. Of course this is MacRumors...

I think he fell for recent clickbait claiming Apple will cancel iPhone X this year. He”s afraid the iPhone X he owns won”t be worth as much next fall when he wants to upgrade to the next device. Much ado about nothing.

iPhone 8/8+ sales were greater than the X. Sales overseas have not been what they were expected. The notch is not loved by everyone. I am not surprised by this move with Apple.

I think all this means is that production of the current iPhone X will cease when the direct successor to the iPhone X is released and Apple will no longer sell the current iPhone X new. It is believed they are doing this because the iPhone X is considered an expensive premium device, and people may opt to buy it in late 2018 instead of the new premium model if it's still offered new.

They did this with the iPhone 5 and I don't believe it affected resale value much, once people actually understood what was going on.

Your iPhone X will continue to be supported for years with software updates and sadly the notch isn't going anywhere soon and will spread to the other iPhone models eventually.

I don't think so, the less X on existence, the more value it gets. I think the X will be considered an iconic device, just for the notch. Very proud to own an X, even the name is cool.

I don't understand why people have been making a big deal about the X being "cancelled", or why it should have a negative impact on the value of your device.

The way people are acting, you would thing that they were being recalled or something.

It's a question of human nature and in this case fondness to an object which gives and represent value to people, so it's normal, nothing wrong with that. And that love for your phone will increase once this devices have real artificial intelligence.

They discontinued phones every single year until Apple decided it was more profitable to start selling older models for slightly cheaper to get more adoption from people who otherwise would have purchased an Android phone.

Lots of companies still "cancel" old product lines.

Not happening.

My hope is the 2017 X will be much more attainable. As someone with the 8+, I would like to part ways with it via trade in if it mean getting a "free phone" over bill credits for the next couple of years.

If not, I don't mind paying a little bit after selling the 8+ because the proposed LCD iPhone isn't an ideal phone for me.

Absolutely. That is a big reason I wouldn't switch to android. Ultimately I feel that hardware will all become similar at some point, a glass slab, but it's the other aspects that Apple leads in that will keep me buying. Performance, privacy, security, apps, ecosystem, and support. I don't see a competitor doing better in these areas anytime soon.

That's true also. Personally I would rather support the greatest American company in our lifetime over a South Korean company, for example, that only got into this game by copying the American company.
[doublepost=1516970394][/doublepost]It's funny, someone in my office walked by me and saw my X and said "I heard they stopped selling those because they weren't selling any." And this is someone who knows nothing about Apple or tech or pays attention to any of this stuff. For some reason, people love to paint a negative picture when it comes to Apple, not sure why.
An easier way to understand it is to think about how passionate you are for Apple and imagine people who have the same enthusiasm for Android. You wouldn’t care if Samsung lost sales so it’s not unreasonable to think some people think the same about Apple. I know quite a few people who mock Apple and they own iPhones. Not everybody is passionate about a brand and cares ultimately.

Just my own preference, but I really don't care what my iPhone is worth a year later or not. It's a piece of tech, not a collectors item or a rarity. Tech devices diminish relatively quickly in value, being it's likely superseded with a new model the following year. It's just how it is.

An iPhone is not an exception, its a tool. I treat as such.

Reason being more that Apple doesn't want a cheaper 2017 X to canabalise sales of its 2018 equivalent.

You do understand that these are rumors? And that the rumors are currently all over the place? No one, probably not even anyone at Apple, knows. And will your iPhone X suddenly stop working this September? Or will it continue to work just as well as it's working for you today?

I’m not sure how this applies to that discussion.

My sentiments exactly. I don't buy tech stuff as investments, but as tools for everyday use. When the time comes, they get handed down to my parents anyway, so I'm not going to be making any money from the gadgets. I would imagine it would be quite stressful to constantly obsess about the "value" of an item, instead of just enjoying the possibilities it affords me here and now.

This is true, but I don't think it proves anything. The 8 and the 8 Plus are very different phones. Aggregating their sales and then comparing to X sales is, pardon the pun, an apples to oranges comparison.
